Two days before our arrival, we were informed by the hotel that the room we had originally booked was not available and were suggested to stay one night at a sister property, that was located 15 minutes from Ubud. We did not want this arrangement as we were travelling with another couple who had booked separately at the Adiwana Resort Jembawan. The hotel did a superb job in re-working our request so that we could to remain at the same hotel: while we were offered to stay in a Deluxe Room (same amenities as Adiwana except for the bathtub, and located on lower floors), the hotel also offered additional and free perks such as a cooking class for 4 people and our transfer to Bali airport. We very much appreciated this gesture.
Upon check-in, the reception manager came to greet us and apologized again for the booking oversight. We felt we were genuinely taken care of and it made for a very nice start.
What we love about the property is its location which while central, is in a quiet street away from the hectic traffic and noise of Ubud. The hotel facilities are well designed and maintained; facing a beautiful tropical jungle above a small gorge. It feels very private. The pools are large and clean, with a fair number of loungers, complemented by 2 lovely gazebos if you want to stay in the shade.
Free yoga and meditation classes are offered every morning and for those more serious about it, there is a major yoga centre at the bottom of the road.
We only had breakfasts at the hotel – service was a bit slow at peak times when yogis are done with their morning classes - as there are plenty of food options in Ubud.
The Adiwana Jembawan is an excellent hotel and we would be happy to return, this time in a Adiwana room as it faces the pool and is brighter.
The location of the resort is good in terms of proximity to the many restaurants in Ubud, it is down a fairly quite side street off of one of the main roads - we found it easy to walk to all the restaurants we wanted to visit.
Breakfast is very good (vegetarian/vegan) and offers choices very different to anything I’ve had in a hotel before.
Finally the reason for not giving 5 stars was our room, our first room was very very dark and down 2 flights of steep stairs in the basement of the hotel; we spent one night there and were woken early by work being done in the room next to us (we’d not been made aware of this) - to be fair we were then moved to another room which again was above a room being worked on (we were told); both rooms had good beds and the products in the bathrooms were good however they both smelt ‘earthy/odd’ from the mini jungle at the back and the soundproofing in both was poor.
The staff were all very friendly and nothing was any trouble. The complimentary High Tea was a delicious surprise. The rooms and facilities were all very clean and to a high standard.
Our flight home was late evening and they supplied a room for us to freshen up at no extra cost.
A perfect stay in Bali. We can highly recommend.
The resort is simply but really beautiful and refreshing, all the staff are kind and attentive. They gave me 50% for spa, i got a massage for an hour and it was extremely relaxing and just an overall great experience. I highly recommend the spa, well designed and very friendly staff with a list of interesting treatments.
The location of the resort is great, I was walking around a lot which I missed in Bali. A lot of good shops, resturants and yoga studios are around.
The pool over looks a beautiful small valley of trees and I think i heard a river passing. Its a great place to spend your days in Ubud
I am absolutely coming again. Thank you everyone
There is nothing I can really fault, I had a couple of minor maintenance issues (AC leaked on night one) and no hot water in the bath (day two) but both were dealt with swiftly.
I stayed in the Adiwana and the room was large and very comfortable. Lovely big squishy mattress - which could have slept four easily. The bath was such a treat for me as I don’t have a bath at home, it was deep and the bath foam provided was a nice touch. So many hotels don’t offer this and you end up using a bottle of body wash! All the amenities were also lovely and smelt amazing!
The wifi is speedy (which was useful as I couldn’t find any English tv channels that were not the news) so I was able to watch Netflix on my laptop. It also stayed permanently connected to my phone so I didn’t miss any contact from home. Also useful as many hotels make you log in each time your connect.
Pools are lovely. Predominantly shady, so if you’re a big sun worshiper like me you may find that a pain, but Bali sun is fierce so you’re grateful of the shade. Only real downside is the lack of poolside service, if you want a drink or something to eat, despite the pool menus, you do need to go to the Herb Library to order. I’d recommend here that perhaps when the hotel is aware guests are by the pool, they send a waiter every hour to check on the guests. I would say they definitely missed out on sales here as many guests, myself included didn’t order anywhere near as much as we would have should someone have come to ask us.
The food at Herb Kitchen is really special, delicious healthy Indonesian food and was perfect for a veggie/vegan like myself, they were also able to cater to my peanut allergy.
The spa is amazing! Compared to the U.K. the prices are insanely good value. I had a two hour Open Chakra Massage and the time disappeared! Gorgeous.
Staff are all so kind and polite and highly attentive!
Final thing to say is the location is excellent! If you’re new to Ubud like myself the location, to the centre for shops, market, the palace etc is ideal! All within walking distance. I didn’t visit the temples as that’s the second part of my trip, but they are within easy reach (Not on foot).
I will come back to Ubud and I will stay here again! Lovely hotel. I highly recommend!
A tip - send your management team to stay at Oberoi Resort to experience the detail and service from exemplary staff, thoughtful room layout and important and valued room amenities and consumables.
