Bambu Indah is a sustainable jungle retreat with the luxury of a highly personalised service and the attention of a fully dedicated team that will create for you a unique experience for lifelong memories. Encapsulating old school Bali; peaceful, laidback and in harmony with nature. Tamarind, cinnamon, palm and bayan trees cascade down steep jungle slopes to an enchanting river with natural swimming pools fed by dancing waterfalls. Jewellery designer John Hardy arrived in Ibud in the 70’s and met and married Cynthia a decade later. Each passionate about the environment, together they are a fusion of creativity. In 2005 they installed eleven antique Javanese bridal homes collected on their travels on a jungle cliff top overlooking padi fields, inviting first their friends to stay and then turning it into a hotel. Since then, they have evolved with ecological mindfulness to expand Bambu Indah down to the river, building a range of spectacular and utterly original buildings all made from their signature material, bamboo. Today travellers come from all over the world, drawn by their dream of a regenerative world where nothing is used which cannot be composted back into the earth. This garden of Eden is their home which they share with you.

Bambu Indah Resort is celebrated as a peaceful retreat, blending beautifully into its natural surroundings with meticulously crafted bamboo rooms that offer both luxury and tranquility. The exceptional service provided by the attentive staff is frequently lauded by guests, as are the resort's eco-friendly amenities, including inviting natural spring pools and a variety of dining options.
While nestled in a secluded, idyllic setting amongst rainforests and rice fields, the value is deemed excellent by many, especially with the inclusion of a food and beverage credit and pool access with the day pass.

Detailed Reviews
Never in my travels have I stayed at a property with so much to EXPLORE. Swimming holes (complete with rope swing), dozens of personalized lounge areas, lush vegetable gardens onsite and other neighborhood-sourced food served fresh at the restaurant, and the warmest family of staff you could ever ask for. The genuine connection you make at Bambu Indah is the sort you hope you find along life's journey.
As as solo traveler, I stayed in the Kuda House. It was a great home base to have during my 5 night stay. Quite comfortable queen sized bed and the best indoor/outdoor bathroom I've ever used. Get ready to be blown away by the knobs!
A typical day starts with yoga in the open air space overlooking the lush landscape. Following shortly after is a delicious menu of breakfast offers, several varieties of exotic fresh fruit, and Balinese pressed coffee. It wasn't uncommon that I find myself reading and with coffee all morning. Next up is back to the room to throw on a swimsuit to play in and lounge by several of the swimming holes around the property. I loved the floating swings and lounge coverings by the river. A fresh ginger/basil soda and cold water plunge were the perfect combination to cool off in the sunshine. Half the time I went into Ubud for dinner and the other half at Bambu Indah - I can't recommend the dinner offerings at Bambu Indah enough! Just be sure to get out and enjoy what the city has to offer as well :)
For those concerned that it doesn't 'look' like your traditional 5 star hotel, keep in mind that they spare no expense providing a clean and impressive experience in nature. If you're appalled at the sight of seeing an ant or expect white marble floors, then this property is not for you. If you want to feel like you've transported into another world, look no further.
I cannot wait to be back!
PS. For an authentic experience, go to the Sayan Night Market located 1km down the road! You won't regret it.

This was my fifth visit to BI over the last 8ish years and I've seen quite some changes in that time.
It's still my favourite place to visit, but I did feel that this time, some of the magic has been lost. It's no longer a well kept secret and as a result there are more houses, more people, less quiet and it's starting to feel a little crowded.
I've stayed in 7 different houses over my 5 visits. This time we gave the Tent a go, which was wonderful, but it is quite a hike so I don't recommend it for anyone with fitness or mobility issues.
We also stayed at Manis house, which was the smallest I've been in so far, and quite disappointing for the price. The bed and room was small and awkward for 2 people, and it was close enough to other units that I could hear others walking around theirs in the early hours of the morning. (The floors creak very loudly). The air-conditioning was also positioned in such a way that you could only use it blowing straight on you, which was not pleasant. As a result, we barely slept at Manis house.
The riverside pools were as always, magnificent, but on our first day, so busy that we struggled to find a free position in the shade.
Trying to relax by the top pool there was a constant stream of day trippers getting tours of the grounds.
It's a shame that the River Warung is no longer open for dinner, the food at both the restaurants is still the best I've had in Bali and beautifully presented.
The staff were attentive and lovely.
I will return again, to Bambu Indah, my second home, but I do hope the growth doesn't continue until it becomes so busy that it loses its serenity. Thanks for having us once again BI.

This place is stunning! We went to both the restaurant, but also paid a day pass and enjoyed the natural pools down by the river which is about a 10 minute walk away down beautiful pathways and over exquisite bamboo bridges. The natural pools are idyllic with plenty of niches to enjoy. The kids had a blast on the rope swings too. The food in the restaurant is absolutely excellent too - a very diverse range of plates which are innovative takes on Indonesian cuisine, and made with the freshest ingredients from the local vegetable patch. This place is definitely worth a visit.

This is an incredibly unique property.
Bespoke houses tucked in to quiet parts of an amazing jungle property on the river, with loads of communal space to enjoy freshwater swimming, quiet places to read, mediate, spa or train.
Everything has been well thought out to create a really unique step back in to nature. We stayed in the Moon House for two nights and in Jawa Lama for two nights. Very different properties and honestly neither better than the other, just different.
Immaculately clean, thoughtful and super eco friendly. An onsite organic garden that produces much of the food they serve and honestly, I've never had lettuce as good as theirs. I'm still thinking about it.
However it should be noted, that this property isn't for everyone. It feels like you are very much in the jungle (which is what we wanted and loved). Many of the tracks to the rooms are tricky to access and if its raining - it could be dangerous. One of my friends noted - its an Occupational Health and Safety nightmare, but this is one of the things we loved about it. Yes there are bugs, and sounds, and frogs - but we were off the beaten track within nature and we appreciated that. I got home last night and put a rainforest soundtrack on to help me sleep.
The staff were excellent and they provided great tips for us to enjoy the best of Ubud and Sayan.
Treat yourself.

We felt like at home just better. The staff is incredibly friendly and authentic. The meals prepared in the open kitchen are very healthy, we could smell, that the ingredients were growing in the garden just a few hours ago. Everything is so thoughtful and loving. We ve got inspired because of the creative furnished different rooms in which we could stay and all the details in every corner. And the best: The sustainable solutions and ideas of John, Cynthia and the whole team are very inspiring and the minimal waste approach something we wish and hope that the can inspire many other hotel operators and people from all over the world. Thank you for having us!

The customer service is so incredible! From the second we booked, our arrival and till departure we felt like royalty!
The resort itself is by the river, most amazing architecture, very thoughtful touches in each and everything. Very, very eco friendly, all about saving nature.
They pretty much grew the fruits, vegetables, grains, had their cows and chicken their for eggs, milk, etc. It was truly from their yard to their kitchen.
We celebrated our birthdays and they surprised us by decorating our room with flowers!
One day we were leaving too early and kitchen wasn't open to serve breakfast. Without us requesting, they packed us breakfast in a bamboo and banyan leaf box they made.
Highly recommend.

So disappointing. I can’t believe this place has more than 500 good comments. People just don’t want to admit they wasted their money!
This place wants to make us believe they are eco-friendly but it’s just the opposite. Your shampoo and soap goes to the river.
The bungalows are very different from what you see on their website. Very deteriorated.
The moon house design is good. That’s the only positive thing I could say.
The food and drinks are horribly expensive and not good at all.
Far from Ubud. Add taxis to the price.
This is just a business.
And get ready to be bitten by mosquitos and dozens of other types of insects.
There are now many other eco resorts in Ubud, much cheaper and with a much better location.
Anyway good luck if you go there!

This hotel is truly unique - the beautiful floral entrance, huge arched space built from bamboo includes the dining room with Indonesian style eating area, as well as tables and chairs, open kitchen all overlooking one of the many organic vegetable gardens around the property. Each building is unigue - a/c bedroom with mosquito netting for the beds, outdoor bathroom with lovely garden area for the shower. The food is delicious and well presented. The amenities, including tiered pools terraced down toward the river, yoga studio, and massage building all add to the special nature of this family owned hotel. The view out over the valley for magnificent sunsets is a must place to be at that time of the day. The three day visit was a wonderful experience and a must stay place in the future.

+1
Bambu Indah is a world class adventure travel resort, set in a beautiful Bali rainforest with stunning architecture, great food and unbeatable service. My wife and I spent four wonderful nights there, enjoying the quiet setting (except the soothing river sounds!) and the fabulous food and drinks. We stayed in the Moon House, with its impressive bamboo styling, comfortable air conditioned bed, outdoor shower, beautiful copper tub and a slingshot to scare away monkeys (we did not need it). I had a great massage from Marium in a special outdoor pavillion, her skills on par with any resort around the world. Do not miss this place if you enjoy unique adventure experiences.

Bambu Indah is a magical place in the nature. You feel connected with balinese culture everyday but still have the comfort of a 5 star hotel. The staff is very helpful, we have arrived late in the evening and restaurant was closed so they have prepared some salad and fruits for when we arrived. We stayed at the moon house and I was surprised with the structure of the room, it has A/C and we have not seen any mosquitos eventhough the room is all open, they also clean the room twice a day. Also the water there is all filtered as a hospital system so you can feel relaxed about any bali belly. The new restaurant was also a great surprise, food was really good and the new design looks amazing, the bathroom in a cave is insane! I’d recommend you to stay in this perfect place in the nature and hope I will be back soon.
