We loved the Balinese-style buildings, the swimming pool design with its islands and "swim up to" bar, good breakfast and quiet and secluded location - though still handy to shops/restaurants. The rooms were spacious and comfortable with good facilities. We had adjoining rooms with daughter and grandchildren, which was ideal, also with children's pool nearby. The patios were really large and private. There are lots of tropical trees/shrubs in the gardens (and not a mosquito in sight!) We really recommend it.
The Sativa is an old Balinese type accommodation that presents well and has a very Balinese feel about it. Positioned well away from the main street, it is quiet and surrounded by unused grounds that are not accessible and well fenced to provide security. The Sativa does not have direct beach access, but is does have a large pool, surrounded by the accommodation. The Beach is about a 500 metre walk away, so it’s still easy enough to get to. The Hotel is located on the quieter end of Sanur, but still very accessible to all the shops and restaurants you need, plus some. The Sativa is showing signs of its age and could do with a little more care and maintenance to its grounds, but the rooms were well presented, clean and maintained. The bed is firm , the room also has a couch, LCD TV and plenty of room to move. We had an upstairs room (recommend upstairs overlooking the pool) and it had plenty of natural light. The balcony area was large enough and overlooked the pool and main building. The Bathroom was large, with a very old type terrazzo bath (with step in shower). I would not recommend having a bath as it looked very old and had a shower matt in the middle of the bath, so perhaps it just didn’t look clean enough as it was a mottled pink colour. All up we were very happy with the Sativa and would recommend it to the budget conscious traveller who likes value for money and the Balinese feel.…
Fair and friendly staff, clean and wide room, clean , make that hotel a very good hotel to relax and to recover after two weeks moving in Bali and Gili Islands. Breakfast is ok, with choices and quality.
The photos and description to this hotel were a bit misleading. Yes, the WiFi is free, but you had to be in the lobby or dining area in order to use it. Also, our room on the first floor, though clean, always smelled like mildew/mold when we returned from the day’s activities. That being said...the breakfast was consistently good, and we were always met with smiles in the morning. The folks at the front desk were always helpful. I’m not sure we would stay there again.
Charming and quaint Balinese style thatched cottages positioned around meandering and sparkling pools! Friendly, helpful staff, and lovely restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed our week stay at Sativa, in the heart of Sanur and a few minutes from the beach.
We stayed for four hours and couldn’t leave quick enough. The place is extremely dirty, I don’t think the floors have seen a mop in years. Beer bottles were standing in front of our room for hours (not our bottles), the walls are cracked and has bird droppings over it. The rooms are run down with paint peeling and out of date styling. The manager didn’t come to our aid once, and basically waved us goodbye with a smile when we were upset and ended leaving(without a refund). We paid for two nights stayed 0. If the public areas look like this (see photos) I’m scared to think what the kitchen looks like where the food is prepared. It’s disgusting.
We came here after most good reviews. We have been reading about paint jobs needed in the 2015 reviews already. Nothing done so far. All rooms are classified as 'deluxe', but if this is deluxe, all the more basic rooms we've had so far are 5 stars paradises... Mostly Dutch people. Nice and friendly staff, breakfast not a lot but okay, nice location and small pool. But those rooms... Unacceptable. Not clean at all! Cracks in the walls and floor, nasty stains in the tub and curtains, and sand on the floor when we arrived. When you're here for a good location be happy. If you want an up to date and clean room, pay some more and go somewhere else. Hopefully the owners will invest in this outdated resort..
Just stayed here for four nights with my family and loved it. We’d come from a resort which was lovely, but the service here was next level. They just care more. From Koman the manager making leaf boats with my children, to the night receptionist staying with my kids when the baby sitter was late so my wife and I could go out... the villa was beautiful and the location... 10 mins drive from the centre of Ubud (there’s a shuttle several times a da) and with an ashram, a temple, and about 10 restaurants in easy walking distance. Definitely recommend this place. We’ll be back.
.AS FERRIS BUELLER’S LITERARY ADVISER NEVER SAID…….. THE GOOD – located in a bustling area only meters from JALAN CEMARA, rhe main back-of-beach street in south Sanur. This street has a host of competitive restaurants and other retailers competing for the custom of the many resorts in the area. Further, CEMARA BEACH itself is only a 5-10 minute walk leading first to a host of sub-budget beach restaurants, sun-lounge rentals and retail outlets and then further south some upmarket resort dining/drinking options. - comfy rooms: spacious, clean comfy, quiet aircom, good hot water, huge tub. - the pool was in good condition, plenty of shaded sunlounges and unlimited pool towels. - the inclusive breakfast in the pool-view restaurant was okay and other meals had half a dozen dishes at true budget prices. - staff the usual high standard Bali thing - hire-bicycles at 18K a day the cheapest I’ve seen at Sanur in 10 years, just the thing to ride the nearby SANUR BEACH PATH, Comparisons: beach path bike rentals 100k – 50k if you bargain well. The GRAND INNA HOTEL was charging 350k several years ago!! SATIVA’S bikes were okay comfy geared cruisers, not rent a wrecks or high-end mountain bikes. THE BAD – drinks a bit dear but plenty of sub-budget stuff on J CEMARA and down at the beach. - location: this is not a beach-front resort as the location map can make one believe. - rooms a bit shabby paint-wise. But painters had already started on reception – rooms probably done soon. - not being beachfront, I reckon the place is 20% overpriced. THE UGLY. Nothing really - just a cheap literary trick. As FERRIS BUELLER’S writing coach didn’t say: “NEVER LET THE TRUTH GET IN THE WAY OF A SNAPPY HEADING”. And the truth is this is a pretty attractive looking resort with a bunch of 2/3 storey SASAK/LUMBUG style bungalows amid an attractive garden and spaced around a sinuous free-form pool. The opposite of ugly. SUM UP – SATIVA is a pretty nice resort. But as said overpriced. There are plenty of better value properties in Sanur, meaning I’ll head elsewhere next year.…
My impression of Sativa - Our room itself was old, run down & quite small. Nice pool though. Good pool but missing steel plates & faded falling apart concrete around and on the stairs of the pool. Best thing I liked about Sativa is the look & feel of the outside of the place - villa Hut style, tropical island feel and great breakfast. Friendly staff. The room was quite small but then again, I did request a bottom ground floor room next to the pool. Maybe the upstairs rooms are bigger & nicer? Who knows? Liked the spacious balcony porch area at front of room. Large lengthy pool and good breakfast. A bit further from the beach than I initially thought. South end of beach boardwalk. Best thing about Sativa - Their amazing pool. Worst - the size & smell of the room + no safe. Also we were told we could book a movie by calling reception, but once we did, we couldn't find the channel the movie was on. The channel reception told us the movie was on was not clear and was fuzzy -very bad quality channels. They sent a man to come and 'fix it' & all he did was play around in the TV menu for a bit, when clearly it was an aerial problem. So we had no choice but to watch the movie in bad fuzzy quality.…
