Nestled on a beautiful beachfront, Griya Santrian is often celebrated for its scenic location and tranquil atmosphere. The hotel's cleanliness receives high marks, with guests impressed by the meticulous maintenance of rooms and grounds.
However, opinions on the rooms vary; some guests appreciate their spaciousness, while others find them to be dated. The service quality is reported to be inconsistent, and while the amenities like pools and gardens are a highlight, the value proposition is questioned due to additional charges and the need for updates.

We wanted to stay in a beachfront hotel this time in Sanur and this hotel is a nice choice. I was really pleased they allocated the room location I requested and really loved the outlook. Thank you very much for that. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful and I also like the labels on some plants telling you what they are. The room we stayed in a deluxe room, it had plenty of space and the balcony was especially great. They could do with updating the power points to the new type or putting in some USB charging ones. Also surprised no hair conditioner in a hotel that cost as much as it does. Would be good if they put the refillable bottles of body wash, shampoo and conditioner in their showers like a lot of other hotels do now. Was great to hire the bikes and ride along beach walk. Beach view pool area was always extremely busy and people would leave their towels on sun lounges for hours and hours at a time as well as from very early in the morning, addressing this issue would be good. Breakfast was standard buffet and adding an extra person to egg station would be good in the busy periods. Did enjoy our stay, but you are paying quite a premium for the beachside location

In this hotel overlooking the beach of Sanur we stayed in a large room complete with equally large balcony. Strangely enough, the bathroom was small. The huge double bed, I think we could have slept in four without bothering; shame that one of the two sides was almost attached to the wall. Really uncomfortable. On that side no bedside table or lamp jour. Really uncomfortable. Electric socket for the kettle very uncomfortable, on my arrival I suffered quite a bit to plug in. Great and varied breakfast. About 4 euros (extra) for cappuccino at breakfast (breakfast included in the room price) when usually, in Sanur, the price ranges from 2 to 3 euros. Overall, the various facilities of the hotel complex, are quite nice. The gardens are very well maintained. At every corner you can see someone cleaning, tending green spaces, doing maintenance. Also the equipped beach available to guests is clean and well stocked. The three pools are also widely enjoyable. Very good quality of sleep although the air conditioning is a bit noisy. We ate well in the restaurant of this hotel on the evening of "Balinese Cultural Night"

So it is a beautiful hotel with three pools and a beach area, embedded in a very well-kept garden with trees, palm trees, bushes, flower beds, small temples, old walls and gates.
We had an executive room on the 2nd floor by the middle pool.
At first we really wanted to change to a room on the ground floor. The hotel would have made that possible the next day. But we decided against it. The view from the rooms on the 2nd floor (hotel category 3rd floor) with a lift over the pool and garden was simply beautiful.
There is a well-kept beach area with enough loungers (swimming only possible at high tide) across the small walking path (food alley) only for cyclists and pedestrians, a main pool with a pool bar and two other pools.
On the beach there is a restaurant (with breakfast area), a beach restaurant only from 12 noon to 8 p.m. and tables on the beach.
Breakfast and food very good.
The executive rooms by the middle pool are well equipped. Unfortunately no bathtub, but hot water, shower, air conditioning, safe and fridge as well as the elevator always work well.
The middle pool also has enough loungers, a whirlpool in a small temple.
Everything is possible at reception.
From reception it is about a 5-minute walk to the street (not the main street) with all the shops, money exchange, restaurant - whatever you can imagine.
You can't hear the street from the middle rooms and pool rooms. I don't know what you hear in the simple rooms at the back pool.
The only negative thing was the walk between the hotels and the beach, which has now been expanded to include a separate bike path. People cycle very fast here. The range of restaurants in the nearby area is very good. We mainly ate at the fish Warung Aphimbia and the next hotel Tandjung Sari (expensive but good).
In the nearby area, Icon is building a large hotel complex. Anyone who knows the Icon Siam in Bangkok knows what happened to the area when it was completed. No more small restaurants or shops - Icon is ruining everything. A pity

We stayed at Griya Santrian for the last five nights of a four location Bali holiday, and chose it largely because of the glowing TA reviews. We were hoping for that 'special character' boutique hotel that we crave. So why were we so underwhelmed by the whole experience? The location of the hotel is perfect, and the grounds and flora are beautifully maintained. The traditional architecture of the property is also lovely and hints at something special inside. But that's where the disappointment began. We asked for an upstairs Deluxe room right up by the main pool, and they did almost deliver on that request, except that our room was on the ground floor (115) and they were unable to rectify this due to full occupancy. The room was spacious, but it was plain and generic. It was old and dark, and quite honestly it was a depressing place to spend any time. The main pool was okay, but not beautiful, and as other reviews have stated, there seems to be a problem with some of the guests reserving loungers and then leaving them unused for half the day (we noticed that it was mainly the older european guests indulging it that sport). Breakfast was unfortunately included in our booking (lots of great cafes all around that serve fab food and coffee) and yes it was the ubiquitous buffet. The variety on offer was pretty decent and the traditional dishes were actually quite good. But of course, the big vats of juice were warm, the food and the very bad coffee was cold, guests had to line up for eggs and toast and the whole experience was like feeding time at the retirement home, something to be endured rather than enjoyed. Because we were so turned off by the breakfast buffet, we didn't try the restaurant for other meals, so can't comment on the quality of the a-la-carte menu. We did enjoy the simple food and cocktails at Arena Seaside bar next door to Griya Santrian and on Sunday night Arena has an awesome cover band playing. The hotel hires bikes (50,000 IRP per day) which are great for exploring the boardwalk. The staff were lovely, as is always the way in Bali, and the beach side massages offered by Mary next to the hotel were cheap and fairly decent. The hotel will also arrange a taxi to the airport for 400,000 IDR, but if you just go to the taxi stand in the parking lot, you can book the same taxi for 300,000. TA reviews show that people love this hotel, so maybe I am missing something. Or maybe I'm just looking for the special character of a charming boutique hotel, which the Griya Santrian is not.

Large fine hotel with 3 pools, friendly staff, nice and large breakfast buffet. We had a nice room at the "Garden Wing" it is the furthest away from the main building, which was nice and quiet, but there are many tall trees around the pool at the "Garden Wing" so there is no sun all day. ATTENTION If you smoke, you must be aware that you may NOT smoke at the hotel's beach, pool, outdoor restaurant or on the hotel room balcony/terrace, you may ONLY smoke on the approximately 4 benches located around the hotel's large garden.... if you smoke elsewhere you may be fined IDR 500,000.

It’s pricey now, yes I know it’s beachfront and has lovely gardens, is clean and the rooms are immaculate but, I probably won’t stay there again because it is a very resort experience that fell down in some respects.
As mentioned, the pool lounger towel placers, the really unacceptable coffee in the morning, at such a price point, the line up for breakfast, the terrible , terrible single toaster to ruin your bread .
But it was so nice to get up early, enjoy the beach walk and sunrise , then sit on the loungers out the front with a plate of fruit to start the day.
To the management please, please get rid of the small plastic bottles of water you leave in the room daily. You are contributing to the environmental problems in Bali. Charge another dollar a night and provide refillable water stations .
So many places to stay in Sanur. On a balance I will try the other beachfront accomodation near Griya Santrian.

Another great stay. It’s simple but it’s reasonable for the price. All the hotel staff (with the exception of the restaurant) were consistently good and helpful. Rooms are basic but cleaned well each day. In a great location.
2 slightly negative things
1. Don’t stay here over NY. The hotel basically closes off the beach chairs for guests and service is non existent whilst they build for their NyE extravaganza buffet - which was a fizzer - rain and a buffet any public safety official would suggest you avoid. Found it hard to even get a towel or a water during this time - so would never stay here during this time as the guests were let down as the priority of the NYE extravaganza took over.
2. The restaurant. Avoid if you can. Probably the worst breakfast buffet I’ve experienced - they carry around these pots of brown liquid - claiming they are coffee or tea. We asked for a tea bag to make ours stronger and were charged for it. Massive amounts of flies all over the food. And the most disengaged staff so no one helps elderly guests find somewhere to sit during busy times. It’s such a stark contrast to the rest of the hotel - which is old school Bali hospitality. Staff seem totally disengaged except for the dude running the egg station who manages the long line of grumpy people waiting for the omelette made by one person! If you could book without paying g for breakfast you should. If you paid for breakfast - maybe consider it a dunk investment and buy something elsewhere.
Other than that- I still continue to return - but with my expectations in check.

The resort has the most stunning tropical gardens I have ever seen, staff always working, but always able to stop and wish you a good morning, the resort should be very proud of what they have achieved. Our Garden view room in the older part of the hotel, wasn't up to scratch for a 4 star Hotel, and the air conditioner apart from making the noise of and old car, didn't cool either, we reported this to the management and they actioned an immediate room change for us in a very professional manner, could not fault the new room and during the process we were kept informed by management as to when we could move etc, extremely happy with how this was handled. There are 3 pools in the resort, and we never had to move from one to another due to loungers being booked, we found we could always find a place to sunbathe and swim. The breakfast was great and well worth it, and the pool bar that opened at 11am every day was welcomed. The staff also kept the beach area in front of the hotel clean and I had a good few dips in the ocean. The area outside the hotel is great, loads of good and inexpensive Warungs to choose from, all having 2 for 1 cocktails from 4-7pm nightly. In all couldn't say enough about the good experience we had, would love to visit again, well done Griya Santrian.

We initially booked 5 nights but decided to extend our stay to 21 nights in a Santrian Suite. The room was high quality, well lit, comfortable, spacious with a large bath and shower. Also a spacious balcony. Very comfortable bed. No pillow protectors though. The room was well serviced and cleaned on a daily basis. Pleasant, friendly and responsive staff throughout. The hotel has three pools. We preferred the pool to the rear of the property as it was the most peaceful. Very well maintained grounds and areas to sit and chill. All in all reasonable value, particularly so if you wish to make good use of the facilities.
Food was good although we chose to pass on breakfast on several occasions as it was quite busy and cramped. Sometimes breakfast was more endured than enjoyed with a lengthy wait if you want eggs. Would we return? Sure

The location is great. Right on the beach promenade and close to all the hustle and bustle. There are 3 pools, we only tried two of them. One has a pool bar and is also good for kids, the other one is in the shade and great for cooling off. Rooms are what you would expect. Breakfast buffet is also what you would expect, service less so. We usually went early and there would often be 10 guests and 4 floor staff but you still had to wait for a long time to get tea/coffee or service in general. On our first day, I asked for milk with my tea and was told quite abruptly and somewhat of an eye roll that “milk’s on the buffet”. They didn’t take a credit card imprint on arrival and told us that we had to pay as we went. This meant that staff were literally keeping an eye on you at all times in case you decided to run off and not pay for your drink or meal. There were also rules and penalties for all sorts of things. From pool towel returns to umbrellas to not leaning on art work. Have never experienced that in any other hotel in Bali. On check out, we left our luggage with reception for an hour. When we came back and asked for it, the young man at reception pointed to where the luggage was and said “you get it”. There were 4 staff at reception at the time with three of them not doing anything. So all in all, we wouldn’t come back here. This is a 4 star hotel and the service doesn’t reflect this. Balinese people are so warm and welcoming everywhere, you’ll easily find a hotel that has the same facilities but also great service.

Not sure. We have not ever stayed in one. It should be on the website but I believe you get breakfast in nicer surroundings, drinks and nibbles there in the afternoon and a pool just for club room guests
There are more places to choose from in the Sanur area.
