Rokeby was built in 1840 by Captain G.N. Cauthy and is one of the landmarks of Landour. The house and two acre estate are situated slightly above and to the east of St. Paul's Church and the old cantonment parade ground, which is now Char Dukan. Like many houses in Mussoorie, its name is taken from the writings of Sir Walter Scott, whose book-length poem describes heroic battles near the original Rokeby Castle in England. Methodist missionaries continued to operate the property as a guest house throughout the rest of the 20th century. Today, Rokeby has been carefully restored to its original glory. This heritage building is resplendent with character in its elaborate brick arches and niches, intricate stone walls, real wood floors and beams, and cosy fireplaces. Nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas, the traditions of bygone years – where colonial officers, renegade soldiers of fortune and pious miss saibs lived under one roof – can still be felt. An air of mystery beckons visitors.

Nestled among pine trees, Rokeby Manor is cherished for its timeless charm and serene, pollution-free environment close to main attractions. The hotel's atmosphere and cleanliness receive high marks, with guests often lauding the exceptional service and cozy amenities, despite some opinions that these features are not sufficiently reflective of the price. While the rooms are celebrated for their comfort and views, opinions vary regarding their size and decor. In essence, this tranquil haven offers a slice of old-world elegance, though not without a few critiques on value.

Staying at the Rhododendron suite at Rokeby Manor was a wonderful experience. The staff are very helpful. The food at Emily's is good as also their bakery situated at sister's bazaar. Many tourists staying elsewhere too make it a point to come here atleast for a meal. Their log inn cottage (3 bedroom hall kitchen with a personal chef is recommended for any group who need 3 rooms). However the rustic rooms are too small and may not appeal to many tourists. The hotel's location at Landour area of Mussoorie is very good

Stayed here for 3 nights at 2 different cottages. Both are located outside the main Hotel building just a short 5 minute drive.

Bothwell Outhouse
A 2-bedroom cottage with kitchen and balcony overlooking beautiful valleys. Its perfect for 2 adults and 2 children as the 2nd room have a bunk bed. Also, the rooms on the first floor share a common bathroom. There is a lounge area on the ground floor with a kitchen and a dining table with big windows to enjoy the view.

Pine tree Lodge
This cottage is much more spacious than the first one and is located at at a distance of around 800m from the Hotel main building right next to the iconic Landour Bakehouse.
You will get a chef and a butler when booking this particular cottage and trust me its worth it! The bedrooms are spacious with en suite bathroom. This cottage is perfect for a family of 4 or 2 couples as it provides ample privacy. The views from the balcony and sit out area are just breathtaking.

It’s a boutique hotel, set in lush alpine hills. We stated in a suite which hotel said has great views which we found to be just ok. The building though is heritage but it’s very well kept with all modern amenities. Views from their villas are much nicer.

Food at Emilies is amazing. The taste and menu would easily compete with any good restaurant in Delhi. It’s very economically priced, similar food in Delhi would easily cost you 2x.

The staff is super friendly and helpful. Though it’s a 3 star hotel but the service and friendliness is easily 5 star.

TIP: Since they only have 12 rooms and only one or two suites with any view they are almost always sold out. It’s recommended that reservations are made in advance. They only have one suite with view, and none of the other rooms have any view.

There are several lovely walking trails. There are a couple of good cafes also walking distance.

Would definitely visit again.

We stayed in the beautiful property of rockby for 2 nights. Unfortunately there is no view of the beautiful scenery around you, as the views are only available in the cottages of the property & none of the normal rooms are with views, secondly I stayed in room no. 6 there was this Continuous water dripping noise in the room, due to which I was unable to sleep at nights, when I inquired about the same they informed me that this was the noise of there deep fridge, the noise was so annoying that my holidays were ruined.
Also you have to ask for Basic facilities like hair dryer, dental kit etc. Staff was good & helpful. Food was good & views can be enjoyed from their lawn & highlands, but they will serve Food to u only once On highlands, so u need to order in one go.
My personal advice is please avoid staying in room 6.

We had a lovely short Christmas holiday for 3 nights and had wonderful experience at Rokeby Manor Landour. The lovely fireplace at the lodge area where you can spend some nice warm time reading. The suite we booked was nicely done it was made warm and cosy with nice split ac heaters and even washrooms had heatres. We were given hot bags and daily some nice chocolates towards the night. The food at Emily’s is too good with right amount of spices. Coming to staff very well mannered and active staff inspite of the peak seasons of Christmas and New Year. The manager pays extra attention. Best part was we could get the shopping bags or bakery delivered from Landour Bakery and Prakash stores. All the services were very prompt. Above all Landour is a calm beautiful place if you want to avoid the rushes of Mussorie. The Gardens of the Property is beautiful and the location is nearby all main attractions where you can do some nice walks.

Sometimes an impromptu plan turns into the an incredible get away. And one feels compelled to write a review for a place which has been a source of unadulterated joy.

A steep drive from Mussoorie brought us to Landour, a town dotted with colonial bungalows, British era relics with that old world charm and a silence that called out to embrace nature.

Rokeby Manor- A British style Country Estate Hotel nestled in the hills of Landour, Mussoorie was our home for a couple of days in August. The brick arches, alcove and intricately worked stonewalls of the manor transports you to another era. The breathtaking views of the Doon Valley, surrounding mountains and green forests of Pine and Oak left us spell bound.

Lord Indra paid a visit as soon as we settled in and we enjoyed the pitter patter as we binged on the piping hot tea and freshly baked cookies sent as a welcome gesture. The continental dinner at Emily's ( the only restaurant at the manor, also serves Indian)was delish and tasted even better with fantastic service. Swinging in the tea garden while it drizzled, with an umbrella perched on top ( a brain wave of 'the husband') to protect the upholstery was a funny sight yet so therapeutic. Piping hot chocolate had never tasted so delicious and their signature sticky toffee pudding was licked clean!

The highlight of staying in this beautiful manor was the 'highlands'. It houses an open air jacuzzi and barbecue grills. This is the point from where the sunsets are viewed the best in the whole of Landour. Sit on a bench and witness the sky break into myriad colours. The most beautiful palette ever. And then be enticed by the glittering Doon Valley in the dark.

Butter Maggi, waffles, pancakes and ginger lemon tea at Chaar dukaan, woodfired pizza and fruit cream at the Mall road or the most amazing tiramisu at Landour Bake house- yeh dil maange more! We also tried katlambe in Dehradun on our way up which was on our bucket list since eons.

On our way back we picked jams, peanut butter and cheese from the iconic Prakash store. However I feel they are bit overrated. Loved their mango chutney!

On one of our walks we found a board saying “If we liked noise we wouldn’t live here, if you like noise you shouldn’t be here”.

If you ever plan to visit the place, go and stay at Rokeby Manor and do not expect 'grandeur', go there to soak in 'Landour'. For it means to live free.

Rokeby Manor is an absolutely beautiful grand old stone mansion, with historic highly-polished wood floors, tasteful decorations, and a professional staff that is eager to meet all of your needs. The breakfast spread is delicious and extensive, and one can also get eggs or waffles made to order. The views cannot be beat, and there are many wonderful walking paths nearby. The beds and rooms are extremely comfortable, and the entire place has reverse-osmosis filtered water so it is safe for westerners to drink. Some in our party stayed in the log cabin, which was a wonderful focal point for our group, with its private garden, kitchen, and dining room.

I stayed at rokeby for a month and it has been the best decision I made !
The property is exceptionally beautiful and so is landour.
However what makes rokeby stand apart from any other property is the staff here and the vibe they bring to the place .
Right from the manager and the staff working at rokeby ,everyone is dedicated to making your stay memorable and try their absolute best to understand your needs .
It was great to see smiling faces all around in the staff , a lot of positive vibes definitely. Special shoutout to the folks at the front desk who were always available for any questions, queries and needs.. Akshit, Alpana , Harshit.. and many more !
The food is fab , and words fall short of the kind of service Emily’s provides to their guests round the clock. Their garwhali menu is very creative and authentic. Shoutout to the entire team at emily’s. Thanks to the chef , Rahul, for catering to my needs of homestyle food from time to time and the ever friendly and accommodating staff..sajan , shubham, ravindra and aashish!
The housekeeping folks are lovely. When you are staying at a place for a month, you tend to notice the finer details as well. The housekeeping staff is relentless in their service of daily cleaning as well as lovely surprises of placing fresh flowers in the room and night chocolates! Special mention to vikram for being ever smiling while helping me out!
I also took a few sessions in rokebys spa and salon , and the service was great ! Pooja and Shakila both provided excellent treatments, along with fun conversations 😊.
Shout out to shubham as well for accompanying me on walks to the bakehouse every now and then.
Thanks to the team for ending my stay with a very cute farewell gesture ❤️

We stayed at the outhouse / Deluxe Cottage as it is called, which looked nice and cozy and private. But this whole place is everything but private & honestly at one point I didn't even feel safe. There is a pathway from the main entrance that fully surrounds this cottage which has no locked entry point. So at times in the pretext of chasing monkeys away a random watchman would suddenly show outside the glass door out of nowhere & this was rather freaky.
Also at the point of check out, before we had left, the butler who is also the cleaner started clearing the place. We still had to freshen up before leaving and we couldn't. It was rather ridiculous. No concept of respect to the guest or privacy or any of that.

While this place is beautiful with a stunning view, it lacks the order of what you'd expect from such an expensive place. The butler ruined the whole experience.
