We stayed at Panchkote Guest house for 4 nights and had the most most enjoyable stay. Staying there felt like home! The owner Ruchi is truly a wonderful host and her daughter is always around and manages everything wonderfully. Every member of the staff is very friendly, they keep talking and joking ( and singing ) and keep you entertained. The food is vegetarian , typical U. P. food, non spicy , non oily , but very very delicious. The location is the best part . You go down and you are on the ghats ! So we used to go for a boad ride mornind and evening. Can't wait to go there again . Special shout out to Ranjit and the lady cook ( forget her name !) They made our stay very pleasant ! Thanks for everything

We were a family of four adults who stayed here for four nights. The place is on the river and cabs generally drop you off on the road to avoid the barrow lanes and you have to take a rickshaw to get there. But if you book a cab with the hotel, it usually comes right to the doorstep. The house itself is steeped in history and culture. It’s architecture and decor have been maintained to give a period look and feel. We had two rooms - one on the ground floor and one on the terrace. Both rooms were very clean, well furnished and tastefully decorated with decor accents, the ground floor one was more spacious. The only small issue we had was with a stink in the bathroom on the upper room, which seemed to be because of faulty plumbing. We had a few meals at the place and they were wholesome and simply delicious. They even catered to some special requests when some of us took ill. The terrace was huge and overlooked the Kali temple and Ganga and is one of the best places to catch the sunrise (though we didn’t see it due to intense fog). One could spend just hours gazing at the view. The hotel has its own ghat and you can access the river directly. They arranged for a boat ride for us in the evening with a brilliant local singer, Bhumi Nishad. To row on Ganga accompanied by his beautiful bold voice was one of the highlights of our stay. The best part of the stay were the warmth and hospitality of the people who own and run this place. Right from Ruchi and her daughter to Ranjit and everyone else, it almost felt like family. We will definitely return some day!

We have visited Varanasi three times in the past two years and each time we have stayed at the beautiful home of Ruchi and her 'family'. The moment you alight from the taxi, you can feel the calm and peace of this special place. Then smiling faces appear and you are greeted like a returning family and everyone bustles round to help with the luggage and to catch up on the news since the last visit. We like to walk to explore the Ghats and it's very easy to do that from this ideal location. Each of the Ghats is different and we take time to sit and watch and talk to people and try to learn about the culture that makes up incredible India. Having walked the length of the Ghats, we often return back through the narrow alleyways, where again, wonderful experiences can be found. It is always a pleasure to return in the late afternoon or evening to the peace of Panchkote, to sit in the garden or overlooking the river, enjoying the peace and tranquility of the place. Then a call is heard "Dinner is served" and we are treated to wonderful local dishes served in and from hand made dishes and plates. Truly a culinary experience. This year we were fortunate to be there as Ruchi and her team prepared a meal under cover in the temple courtyard for a large number of guests. The cooking went on all morning and in all in excess of 50 different dishes were prepared. Firstly, the gods were served, then some holy men followed by a number of sittings for other deserving people. We were invited to join one of the groups and it was a very humbling and rewarding experience. We can't thank Ruchi enough for that memory. We now have a five year visa and so, if it is Gods will, we will be returning again and again.

This place is a hidden treasure in Varanasi and is the confluence of traditional culture and modern facilities. Anyone looking forward to warmth and homely atmosphere in a tour need to stay here for sure. Right from the day you reach till you leave, host Ruchi will go out of the way and make you feel comfortable. The spreads in Panchkote are no less than a food fair and despite chalking out plans to visit various places for food, we never found any reason to go out. We were served the best of Varanasi snacks and dinner and since we were staying with our parents, we got to taste the entire Varanasi without even stepping out. Thanks to Kanchan for the tasty food and her infectious smile. We must make a mention of Ranjit and Rahul for their hospitality and attitude.Help was always forthcoming for arranging a transportation to the ghats or for taking a tour to Sangam, and everything with a smile. The beautiful evening on the bank of Ganges in the property itself was an added attraction . Two temples in the premises gave us ample opportunity to get involved in the morning puja and evening Aarti, taking us closer to our own self. Our elderly parents never felt they were away from home and enjoyed their stay. I really wonder, how I could have missed Panchkote-an abode of peace and tranquillity.

The property is beautiful, boasts a rustic charm, and is surrounded with greenery. I mean coming from metropolitan cities and seeing this kind of greenery is so so so amazing. It's very peaceful and the in and around is so very charming. A beautiful temple and the view of holy ganges is just fabulous. But apart from this it doesn't offer much. In terms of stay, the rooms are big and comfortable but lack of warmth and hospitality made our stay a little sad. The guy, Ranjit (Staff) is a sweet and helpful guy. He took care of us nicely. Food is super expensive especially when they don't offer much variety. One day breakfast was fine with the aloo puri but next morning it was awful. Sabudana poha wasn't tasty at all and there was no other option, just bread toast. (no eggs no chicken, it's purely vegetarian). Vegetarian food is perfect but one need to have some kind of option. Also, they don't have a card machine and accept total amount in cash, so we had to go out and look for an ATM in the last moment. So, the location of this property was the saviour otherwise it is not value for money at all. One kind request: Please treat your own country guests a little more nicely the way you treat foreigner guests.

We discovered this beautiful retreat tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Varanasi’s busy streets and yet in the heart of all the activities that are core to this temple city - the temple bells resounding from a dsitance, the morning call to prayer, blowing of the conch shells , the evening benediction accompanied by the spectacular aarti , the ghats ,the temples and the Ganges is something which will always be a part of our Varanasi memories. Our host Jyoteshwari (more affectionately called Hanu didi ) and her team made our stay most comfortable and a home away from home. Thank you Hanu and team for a wonderful stay . God Bless you all.

Five of us stayed here recently as part of a tour and we were charmed by this property and the owners /staff. We were greeted, as we arrived, with a traditional scattering of marigold flowers and a daub of red on our foreheads. Our bags were carried to our lovely, quaint rooms and we were fed a delicious buffet dinner out on the terrace. You can climb a spiral staircase to the rooftop to see the river or walk out the back door, through the well-cared for garden, out the little door in the back gate and past the property’s temple to find yourself standing immediately above the river (steps lead down to the ghat). The location was extremely convenient for our sunrise and sunset boat rides on the river and also for our walking tour of the area. I highly recommend a stay at the Panchkote Raj Ganges!

Ruchi and her staff create a fabulous, once in a lifetime experience. The food (vegetarian) was some of the best we ate in India. With the rooftop patio from which one can survey the Ganga and the goings on, together with the garden, the temple and easy access to the river, this is indeed a Jewel. The surroundings are peaceful, elegant and very clean. I will go back if I can. Absolutely loved our stay.

Dear Ms Ruchi Singh Deo, I apologize for this very late review. Getting back from India, I am not sure have these month blew away. Panchkote raj is a gem. How I wish I keep this a secret, but it would be too selfish! This a massive property close to Shivalay Ghat on the Assi Ghat side. They belong to the old royal family of the Deos, Ruchi’s family. Ruchi and her wonderful daughter manage this place and they will make you feel like family. Please bring you best courtesy when you visit here and be certain that you will receive every courtesy in return. The rooms give the feel of a heritage place. The food is made fresh and it is delicious. The hosts connected us to drivers (of the ubiquitous took-tooks), airport drops and even connected us to a great guise (Mr Deepak Rastogi) who, despite the great crowds, helped us see the major temples. The aarti viewing on the Ganges on the Dashahwamedh Ghat must be seen from the river and the host will arrange a boat from their own ghat. Lastly, the great gem of this place is a tranquil courtyard overlooking the Ganges and the great reason for this tranquillity is their own Kali temple. The temple is built in the eastern style and its resident is the resplendent Devi. There are stories about here. I loved sitting there with Her. The reason chose Panchkote Raj, is because Sri M, a wondrous spiritual teacher finished his book there. He loves that place and I have a special affection for Sri M. After staying there, I realized why. Varanasi…uum what a place. I left a bit of my soul there. I will be back to Panchkote.
