Hotel Surya Kaiser Palace is a gem in Varanasi, with guests repeatedly commending its well-maintained amenities, such as the diverse breakfast and live entertainment, despite occasional service delays. Its prime location garners praise for its proximity to attractions and transport links. While the hotel's cleanliness and rooms with heritage charm are highlights, some travelers have noted inconsistencies in housekeeping and room maintenance.
The blend of historical and modern elements creates a unique atmosphere, and the staff is generally lauded for their efficiency, though some issues with room service responsiveness persist. While the hotel is considered to offer good value, opinions on the cost-effectiveness of certain services vary.

I have booked room in Surya Palace for 4 days from 20th Aug to 24th Aug. I would like to share my feedback:
Let me start with the positives first:
1. Well maintained heritage property with excellent infrastructure.
2. Excellent rooms.
3. Multiple choices for F&B
Now let me come to what needs improvement
1. Checkin : We booked room without balcony on 1st day and arrived at 11 pm on 20th Aug. However we were given the worst room which looked very poorly maintained.
2. F&B Room Sevice : We asked for food items available at 11 pm as we reached the hotel after a train journey. And even though Room Service menu mentions few items that are available 24 hours like Dahi Rice, Khichdi, Sandwiches etc,we were told that last order is taken at 11 pm and we are closing the kitchen.Â
3. Breakfast Buffet : The staff in unresponsive and keeps roaming here and there without bothering to ask people if the need anything. And when we call them and place an order they rarely bother to get the food items on time. Like we ordered Dosa today and we're served after multiple reminders and got the items cold. Also many items when finished are not restocked on time like dry fruits. Many food items kept get cold and staff doesn't bother to check of its properly heated. Also buffett was mentioned for Rs 300 on Agoda but were charged Rs 600 for extra person.
4. Staff Courtesy : The staff is in dire need of training. They barely greet or smile at the customers. It's almost feels as if the staff feels they are doing a favour by serving the customers.Â
5. Room Booking: When we asked to front desk staff to show us the rooms as we wanted to book the best available rooms, they showed us the lowest rooms. We asked them to show premium rooms. But they showed us rooms without balcony. They said we provide these rooms for wedding clients only.
When we told them that Agoda is showing Premium rooms available, they said they don't book those rooms online and give only to VIP guest or for weddings.

Been staying in Surya Kaiser for a few years and time has come to thank their whole team for the hospitality and pleasure we derive staying here. The location is ideal, couple of minutes drive from Train Station, 10-15 minutes drive to Vishwanathji temple. The hotel is Majestic offering 5 star comforts at much reasonable prices. Dont forget the sumptuous breakfast, offering vide varieties of cuisines along with live counters. The ground floor restaurant is majestic and gives a feel of royalty, especially the beautiful flooring that is more than a century old. Overall a perfect stay.

This hotel has a very big mold problem. We were traveling with a tour group that had some of the same problems.
When we entered our room, we were immediately hit by a musty smell. The entire ceiling of the bathroom was gray-black. The door handle was green and felt as if crystals were being grown on it. There was also some mold in the bedroom and you could see that liquid had dripped down the outside wall. The bed linen was stained and definitely used.
We immediately went to reception with our tour guide, unfortunately a new room could not be organized due to a wedding and we had to spend a night there.
The next day and after asking five times, we got a new room, in this one the bathroom ceiling looked OK, but the bedroom ceiling was completely gray-black again.
So again with a guide to reception, this time we were allowed to look at 2 rooms in the new building, one room smelled extremely "freshly painted", which is why we chose the 2nd room. In this one you could see slight signs of mold in both the bathroom and the bedroom and the bathroom also looked anything but freshly cleaned (the toilet seat had a lot of yellow stripes and some red dots). But this room was the "best" choice.
As the hotel is very open plan, there are also an infinite number of mosquitoes, even in the rooms, so mosquito spray is definitely worth it here.
Wi-Fi only works really well in the lobby.
Both the dinner and breakfast were very good compared to the rooms, only the butter at breakfast smelled a bit rancid.

Rooms: Average. Always go for the ones with the balcony. Other rooms are as good as a basic business hotel.
The housekeeping's default answer is always NO.
They were unwilling to provide extra bed and pillow (provided only mattress) for an extra guest for which they charged INR 800+GST
Had to fight for basic amenities.
Reception and Waiting Rooms and Porter Service: The staff at the front desk were always polite and willing to help. The porter services were great. We had requested for an early check-in that the hotel provided and also helped with our luggage in a well designed waiting room post checkout.
Complimentary Breakfast: This hotel had the worst service for complimentary breakfast. The food quality and taste was very bad in a city like Banaras which is famous for its authentic food culture. On top of it, the behaviour of the then in-charge Mr. Pramod was very bad. He was extremely rude and denied service when we asked replacement for a half-cooked "uttapam".
Mr. Pramod's behaviour ruined our morning and he may be the sole reason I might not visit this place again, instead of it being a beautiful property.

Hotel Surya is just 5 km from the Kashi Vishwanath Temple and has all the facilities like restaurants, swimming pool, car services and musical entertainment during weekends.
Unfortunately there were construction going on during our stay and the loud noises and paint smell made it a bit irritating. It has big restaurants and a bar which gets quite crowded during weekends. The food is very good and they prepare as per your likings. We specially would want to compliment the F & B Manager, Mr. Ravi Gupta who paid personal attention to our requirements and took care of us specially. His attitude and customer services are a asset to the hotel. The Cafeteria team were very efficient and hardworking and try to keep the ever demanding guests happy with their services. We were also happy with the housekeeping services who did a great job.
Special thanks to all the drivers under their able manager of Mr. Shailendra Singh who apart from driving you to your destination will enlighten you with the rich history of the places and also act a guide and help you with all the darshans. This is one aspect which the property has which makes it unique and very helpful.
The one major issue this property has is the mosquitoes. Even with fogging the pests are present at all times. The evenings of weekends have musical performances in the lawns which is a very beautiful experience but we could sit in that area even for one minute. Some serious pest control needs to be done

Hotel Surya was truly a gem. Vast hotel hidden in cantonment area (which has multiple hotels) which makes sure it's quiet and away the loud honking noises. Everything in the hotel was topping the other, we stayed in the new rooms, although no balconies) but the room was super clean and next to the elevators. The food served at the restaurant was simply delicious, and they even customised a few things upon request. Mr Ravi the manager was super attentive and always available. The pool was supr clean and, well maintained. The manicured lawns with evenings sit out makes for a great place to relax in the evening. It's not easy maintaining a heritage property of this size, but our compliments and high regards for the entire team from Mr Deepak at front desk to Mr Deepak the GM who is running a tight ship. Whenever we will return to Varanasi, no doubt we will stay here again.

Located in Cantonment area this is an ex palace heritage hotel .
Very busy with package tours and weddings in the hotel.
Breakfast spread same every day and not much at offer .
Rooms aren't big too and though they provide quickly from housekeeping but need to totally discard their stock of worn out towels of usage over years .
There are many modern hotel options around the hotel that need to be probed before booking at the high rate the hotel sells for .
Very very erratic WIFI ..it did not work for 2 full days !

The exterior of the colonial-style building, along with the garden and dining areas, is beautiful and well-maintained. The restaurant offers excellent and varied cuisine at very reasonable prices. The staff is friendly and attentive to customer needs.
The Indian and egg dishes served at breakfast are delicious. The coffee at the café and the modern lunch options are also very good. The spa was a wonderful experience. The New Year's Eve celebration was very enjoyable. The location is good. The rooms are comfortable, the beds are cozy and housekeeping ensures daily cleanliness.
One small point of improvement would be the rooms, which could benefit from some refurbishment over time, particularly the bathrooms. Additionally, more thorough cleaning in corners and areas like the balcony doors would be appreciated—but this is a minor issue.
Overall, a lovely stay!
