I stayed here with my friends for 2 days. Rooms are good, well ventilated, air conditioners are working fine . Although services is quite poor, staff is not responding to calls and totally inhospitable.

This is very good hotel.
Mr.Pawan is very co operative.
The rooms are nice, knit and clean. The bathrooms are also clean and with toiletries.soft bed with clean linens are there.
Two bottles of mineral waters kept in the rooms.
This is a heritage property converted in the hotel, therefore you get a royal feel during the stay.
The previous bad reviews are during old time when no one was taking care of the property. But Mr.Pawan transformed it in very good hotel.
There are geysers for hot water.
Tea/coffee maker with all the sachets are there in the rooms.
I strongly recommend this hotel.
I also suggested this hotel to another tour organiser friend and he got the same experience.

We stayed here for several nights as part of our tour of India and were quite pleased, overall, with this hotel. It was quite central to where we wanted to go and the service from staff was very good.
We had a couple of little problems - shower and the bed but were able to sort these out. The meals were very good and we found it easy to sleep at night - wasn't noisy.
It was previously a Maharaja's Palace and shows it's age a little but still has some of that grandeur. Worth staying in.

after november each year there is season time for benares hotels. discounts dry up and you are unable to extend your stay beyond your booking.
the year 2014 is worst. after indian elections, when indian prime minister won from constituency of varanasi, there is lot of movement of political bigwigs and government officials. this has made scenario of room availability in decent and luxury hotels awful.
now this hotel is a heritage property . very few hotels in varanasi can provide this classic experience, but unfortunately hotel management lacks vision and resolve to present and package it that way.
you end up feeling out of the place in every which way .from service to maintenance , everything is taken casually and you learn to live with polite, helpful but untrained staff .
while leaving, you just thank them for providing a reasonable stay in this 'no room' city.

Of all of the hotels we stayed in through India and Nepal this was by far the worst. The heat was stifling and there was air con only in the foyer and each room. The room air con was an antique and, after the mouse jumped out when we turned it on, it was like being next to a jetport. The room was clean enough but in the two nights we stayed the room wasn't cleaned or the meagre supplies topped up - we had to ask for them ourselves from very reluctant reception staff. We ate three meals in the restaurant and all of them were good - the restaurant staff were very attentive and helpful. It seemed that we were the only guests so the place lacked ambience. It is located off the main strip and away from the hustle and bustle - not that it could be heard over the noise of the air con - and gave easy walking access to the busy streets and the Ganges River. Good location in a classic building that should have been so much better.

It could have been a lot better--if there was more maitainance. It was suppsed to be a lovely hotel, however, it was very much under-maintained. The restaurant and the room were not clean enough...it could have done better and improved itself to an upper lelvel. It had that hardware.

PS there are a few nice shops close to the hotel, including a small supermarket where you can find some imported stuff like snacks or toilet paper; and some more up-market saree shops and women's wear.
