Palace on Ganges is a new, immaculately clean hotel with 22 rooms, each named for -- and said to be decorated in the style of -- a different region of India. Our rooms were good-sized and well appointed (cable TV sets, non-alcholic mini-bar, tables and chairs). The staff is friendly and attentive. Food is vegetarian and well prepared. The big advantage is Palce on Ganges's location. It is at Asi Ghat, And while it's "on the Ganges," a small road and a large where you can get the cab easily from just out of the hotel. Views of the Ganges from the balcony -- and rooms facing the river (on supplement charges) -- are far less good than those from, among others hotels. Disadvantages: not all rooms face the river.

Great for walkers

We stayed in this hotel for two days during an organized tour. Due to the bad reviews, we didn't have great expectations; the central location was important to us. The hotel looked attractive from the outside with its historic facade. The reception at reception was OK. We declined the first room directly behind reception (without a window to the outside). We were then shown a second room on the first floor, which was OK for us. The restaurant on the roof terrace was perfect for our short stay. This restaurant with a wide view of the Ganges adds value to the hotel. The Indian food was very good and the very friendly staff rounded off our multiple stays in the restaurant. We really appreciated the central location; the Ganges was not far away and the Assi Ghat was also within easy walking distance. There we had another opportunity to see a ceremony. The quality of the breakfast was not so appealing; breakfast was served in a dark room with a single small window facing the street. Otherwise, we would book this hotel again.

When we arrived at the hotel, we were given a luxurious room by Indian standards. This was located on the corner of the street where a lot of traffic passed by with a lot of noise and honking. Moved to a standard room, smaller and without a window but also with less noise. After our first trip we returned to the hotel and were allowed to move to another room again. Located on the top floor. Roof top. From the reception we had to climb 64 stairs and then another 14 on an iron staircase outside. This room was also very small and there was almost no room for 2 suitcases. When I opened the sink tap, insects crawled out. The restaurant located at -1 is decent but the one on the roof top is terrible. We were offered dinner there on the second day and we literally ate in the cold and rain. The food offered was sometimes good, sometimes not good depending on the minimal choice. E.g. fries for breakfast. The staff, on the other hand, spoke very little to no English but did their best to help you.

Good location. Not the best with regard to cleanliness. Beds were comfortable but bedding didn't feel as crisp and clean as other hotels. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Food was really good, though the terrace where it was served was a little smelly and unattractive. They did serve beer to residents and also non vegetarian food unlike many places in Varanasi. Some rooms are very noisy as ceremonies start early and finish late in the evening so traffic is heavy and noisy. Personally it was a good location for us but our friends were in one of the 'noisy' rooms and it wasn't such a good experience for them.

My wife and I ( both +60 ) from Kolkata were at PoG from 27th Dec 2023 evening till the 31st evening. PoG is less than 5 minutes walk from Assi Ghat where a lot of activity takes place from 5.30 in the morning; Ganga Aarti, Classical music followed by yoga. The ambience, location, room, house keeping, dining were par excellence. Moreover, the staff ( of any level ) whom we interacted with were extremely courteous, helpful, efficient and always with a smiling face. The buffet breakfast had a very wide spread while the quality / quantity for lunch/dinner/ was tasty, sufficient and priced very reasonably. It is also recommended that the legend/history behind PoG and the contribution of its founders towards society be explored and appreciated. We take pride.

Hotel located near to assi ghat which is main attraction. And hotel owner knows that and that is why hotel charges are equal to five star rate in the same city. No windows, WiFi is horrible because once you go out of hotel you would need to reset the phone again for WiFi. Breakfast was horrible only paratha and vegetable sabji, bread butter. Although in room menu they offer eggs items but not in breakfast. No dosa no idli . Croissant were cold brought from other place. No elevator in the hotel. And if you want to stay after 12 pm if you have flight to catch they charge you extra even if the hotel has less occupancy.

Since I had seen on the internet that the hotel also offers windowless rooms in the basement, I had booked a double room on the upper floors. I was given a windowless, stuffy room on the upper floor, right behind the reception. After an almost sleepless night, I changed the hotel without being refunded the 4 other nights I had booked. An absolute failure of a hotel.

Firstly, read the negative reviews before you book this expensive hotel. At check-out, I was told my Wisecard transaction was invalid and accepting this to be the truth, I then paid with my credit card. Consequently, there was a double-charge which I realised when I checked my bank statements several weeks later (the hotel did not alert me). There followed many months of bank-led investigation until the Hotel was forced to repay the overcharge. Room: nice, with a small balcony facing a crazy-loud-round-the-clock street. Furnishings nice enough, bathroom smelly Room service: slow++ Restaurant: verandah for dinner-good food but slow++ with a pushy waiter. We were offered free meals as some sort of recognition for being the first (?) tourists of the season (now feels like a scam to me). Breakfast: OK on the gloomy basement floor Decor: nice, some historical instruments, earthenware on display Location: reasonably close to the ghats, but so are other hotels Recommendation: go elsewhere.

My cousins and their friends had stayed here earlier hence this property came with great recommendation on service and hospitality by the staff. The property is also very well kept considering there cant be any remodeling or renovation right at the ghats. We chose the room on the top most floor. Its one room only, quite small actually but we were fine with it. I could get the view of river Ganges from my sofa-cum-bed by the window. There is a double bed as well, and a TV and small closet and a compact bathroom as well. A wee bit cramped but clean and well maintained. We were two of us and hardly spent time in the room hence it didnt matter. it was quite hot when we visited Varanasi, the AC in the room worked just fine and so did the electric kettle. No other amenities in that room. The climb to this floor is arduous if you have a problem climbing stairs. There is a sizeable space outside the room and have a cuppa with a book perhaps on a good weather day. There are a few benches too. Can view the assi ghat aarti from the open space and a clear long stretch view of the river ganges. Location, location and location is all that matters at assi ghat. This is the best property from that pov. Your cab will drop you right at the entrance of the hotel. You dont have to walk at all. The ghat is a 50 metre walk from the hotel and there is a market around this hotel where you can buy everything including forex/sim etc. Most iconic places are close by from this hotel. Mr Vikas and Mr Pranchal at the front office were most helpful! They even offered me to just come over to the hotel and look and then decide if I want to stay there, considering I really wanted to stay at the ghat and was divided between a really luxurious property and this one. Breakfast is a small spread, mix of western and Indian, but fresh and good. Would advise to go across the road and have local kachori + sabji + lassi or kulhad chai (tea in earthen glass) Every floor has a good, well lit, open, common lobby space where you can hang around with friends and family.

Not worth for the amount we paid. Almost paid a 5* tariff ;rooms were very small and didn't even provide complimentary water and breakfast. For a family of 2 adults and a kid it felt very conjusted in a room. But food was good and is on Assi Ghat. The Kashi Viswanath temple and all other ghats are easily accessible from the hotel.

Situated at the famous Assi Ghat, hotel rooms provide view of Ganges from the balcony. Rooms are cozy, well maintained, and beautiful. Named on different states of India, each and every room gives a different warmth and feel. Roof top restaurant is a must visit. All major temples, especially Kashi Vishwanath and Sankatmochan temples are a few minutes away from the hotel. Menu covers more or less each and every food item and ofcourse prepared with hygiene. Highly recommended to everyone.
