We spent two nights at the Ganges View at Divali on November 2 and 3. The location, at a Ghat on the bank of the river Ganges, was hugely atmospheric and the hotel was clean and comfortable, if not as luxurious as some other hotels....More
We were in Varanasi for the Dev Diwali celebrations which are centred on the river, and were booked by our travel agent into the Ganges View because we like to stay in places that are redolent of local character.
In this we were not disappointed....More
Hardest bed in India. A yogi's bed of nails would have been more comfortable. Also, the linens were very poor quality and even had holes and tears in them one day. Blankets do not fit the bed either. Poor quality toiletries as well.

I have to say that I found India a very safe place to visit and at no time felt uncomfortable. However we were two men travelling together and therefore cannot say exactly what it is like as a female traveller although I believe my wife would have felt very comfortable if she had been travelling with me. On the whole Indians appear very respectful and I don't believe that you will have any particular problem. In respect of your belongings in your room, the hotel seemed secure but as with any sort of travel, if you can't put valuables in a safe then I would suggest you keep them on you at all times.
