Our 2 night stay in Varanasi was at the Aashray. The homestay was an easy rickshaw ride to the ghats but away from the hustle. The Kapurs were wonderful hosts and treated us to great Indian food and interesting conversation. Mr Kapur is an historian and shared his knowledge of Varanasi and Indian culture. We went with him to the...

we stayed three nights at Ahshray. We had a room upstairs that was nice and private. Excellent break first and don't miss home cooking dinner!!! KK knows everything about Varanasi what is a plus for getting to know better this holy city. We were very happy to stay there and felt well taken care of. We would recommend this Aashray...

Stop reading and make a reservation. The Kapurs will take you into their home and make you feel like family. This nice home, away from but not far from the craziness of the Varanasi's Ganges area, is a perfect place to explore from. I had one lunch when I arrived and it was among the best food I ate in...

I would highly recommend staying with the Kapurs. From the minute you arrive till you leave you will feel as though you have friends looking after you. The homestay is a lovely residence just outside the busy chaos of Varanasi. But within easy distance. I prefer the two rooms on the top floor. They are upstairs, and slightly removed from...

Traveling to India for the first time, my girlfriend and I showed up to the Ashray not knowing what to expect from a homestay. Our hosts Mr. and Mrs. Kapur welcomed us into their home, and their India, with extraordinary warmth. First off, Mrs. Kapur's cooking is absolutely world-class. She grows a lot of her ingredients in her own garden...

My husband and I had never been to India before, and we were eager to find peaceful oases from the slew of new experiences we expected to find in this amazing country. We hoped, as well, to be enriched and informed by staying with families, rather than in hotels. The Kapurs provided both, and we're grateful to them for their...

It was so wonderful to leave hotels behind and experience a homestay in India, and staying with the Kapurs exceeded our expectations in every way. The greeting and care we received was so warm, kind and genuine. They were interested in our experience in Varanasi and totally committed to our comfortability in their home. There's free wifi. We had dinner...

We stayed there for 2 nights at the conclusion of a five week tour of northern India. The Kapurs were extremely cordial and their food is some of the best we had in India. Our room was basic but fully equipped and extremely clean. There was free WiFi. Our one regret is that -- since we had booked through an...

We stayed at the Aashray Homestay for two nights. The location was a short rickshaw ride to the Ghat, the meals were excellent, but the most amazing part was the conversation and shared experiences. We had quiet conversations with Mrs. Kamal during dinner that gave us a feeling for life in Varanasi. Mr. Kamal accompanied us on a boat ride...

Varanasi is a beautiful but not easy city for western people. So we were lucky to found this hidden treasure far from filthy historical center. Mr Kapur and his wife treated us like children, offering the best Asian Vegetarian specialties for breakfast. Sunrise guided tour on Ganga was simply amazing!!! Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Aashray is in the heart of city, yet away from crowd. It's in a colony, but the main road linking the entire city is less than 100 meters away. Railway or bus station, temples, Ghats, shopping centers, mall, craft centers, restaurants, boats, hospitals and eatables, are all available within the radius of three kilometers of the house. Your Hosts: The Kapurs, are mixture of traditional and modern values. Mr Kapur, although a chartered accountant by profession is an avid reader of Hindi literature and devotes a lot of his time in keeping alive the beautiful culture of Varanasi. Mrs Kapur, with a graduation in Indian Classical music, is known more for her warmth and the magic she creates with the Indian veggies (you might almost forget your meats and fish for a while)! They have not forgotten their traditional customs and values but at the same time modern customs and values have been accepted whole-heartedly. Thanks to their interest in Yoga, history of India, local culture and traditions, they are able to share a lot and invite you to be a part of their lives for the moments that you are with them! ... more   less
