The location is unbeatable, close to the ghats with a rooftop view and walking distance to sights you want to see. Staff is very nice and helped arrange boat trips. We were there for holi and they had a private party on the roof so we could celebrate even after it became too rowdy on the streets.
This was a well located hostel, and the staff were helpful when we were along questions. Also booked a sunrise tour from the hostel which was similarly priced to everywhere else but was a really good experience (guide was excellent). Room was slightly dirty, including the bedding, and the main inside common area smelt of stale sweat, but those were minor niggles. Overall a good start to our India adventure.
We chose this place based on reviews and convenient location, booked a year in advance. With an email confirmation booking from booking.com the owners cancelled our reservation for 6 people on a day of arrival. There we were, in the ghats with luggage and left homeless.... This is a no-go place!!! You are likely to end up homeless, hungry, tired and covered with dust, tasting the dust if you choose to book with these unprofessional pirates.
I had a room booked for 6 guests 28-31 December, which I had booked way in advance back in March 2019. I confirmed the reservation at least 3 times with the hotel. On 19th December I was given an option to cancel should I wish to. Booking.com confirmed it was an option only and that I didn't have to do it. Instead I sent an email to the Wander Station, confirming the booking again. I heard nothing back. On 22nd December Booking.com confirmed the booking and sent me directions on how to get there. On 27th December I phoned Wander Station just to double check the booking, since I had been given an option to cancel should I wish to on 19th December. A man couldn't confirm whether the booking would still go ahead, and Ashutosh from Wander Station called back to advise me the booking had been cancelled. That's right, I was given no notice about the cancellation (until I phoned). One day before arrival, Wander Station cancelled the booking I had made nearly one year prior, without providing any alternative accommodation, and leaving me and five other guests stranded. We ended up paying for a second hotel and then a third in the suburbs, since the second didn't meet our standards. Wander Station ruined our Varanasi holiday, and I advice travellers to give it a wide berth.…
hostels in Varanasi are not very comfortable, and that is the only reason why this hostel has good comments. because the place is very cold, the common area toilet is very dirty, prices are very high for what they offer, and the staff is nice only a couple of hours a day. on the other hand, it is well located and the bed was comfortable.
