Location wise this is the best that you can get in Banaras. Most other places that are highly rated can't be accessed by road due to the narrow alleyways. If only the management could be flexible about early breakfasts as one leaves early for darshans and sightseeing, it would enhance the reviews. Also bathrooms are poorly planned with no robe hooks and no shower curtains. If you overlook this aspect then this is the place to stay.
The place is located near Assi Ghat. Very homely. Very well maintained. Food is excellent and served fresh. The staffs are nice and polite. They have 7 rooms. More of a homestay, but the feel of a hotel. Only hitch is, the stairs are very steep, advice to put handrails for ease of movement.
This is a brilliant place to say. It’s an old Small kothi ( haveli, chateau , villla , palace , manor ) . The Royal Family live next door . I met an important member of the Royal family too. It’s a basic large room which is clean and provided with basic eminities . It is 3 min walk from Assi Ghat. You can ask cook to prepare your food . Door keeper and help with alcohol . Book early as rooms are numbered . It is safe place for family.
Stayed in Vijaigarh Kothi for four nights in October 2019. I understand that the hotel is part of the mansion (Kothi) of erstwhile Raja of Ramgarh. The hotel is located about 450 meters away from Assi Ghat, one of the major ghats which is also famous for the hangar aarti in the evening. The rooms are spacious and comfortably appointed with vintage furnitures. The place has an old world charm which the management has managed to sustain largely. The staff is very helpful and polite. My special mention is of a young ever smiling lady, Diya, Who helps out in reception, accompanies the guests to the restaurant, helps in deciphering the menu for the foreigners and also did the Rangoli on Deepavali day. The reception staff helped us nicely in charting our sight seeing. The food in the restaurant is just like "Ghar ka Khana" (food as prepared by mom). The restaurant staff is very helpful. There are some issues which prevented me from allocating the highest rating to the hotel. Firstly, being an old style building the staircases are very steep. It will be a challenge for people with knee problems to negotiate the stair cases. There are no rooms on ground floor. However the manager of the hotel assumed us that plans are afoot to prepare a few rooms on the ground floor and also to install a lift. The bathroom stinks. It is one points where the management should focus on immediately. The restaurant needs to become more professional in reducing the wait time. If food is not ordered in advance, please prepare for a 45 minute wait for food on table. Overall we enjoyed our stay. Good luck guys and best wishes.…
I stayed here based on the positive reviews I read on TripAdvisor. Unfortunately I did not read reviews on other sites beforehand, and had a challenge finding somewhere to stay in Varanasi given the holidays that bookended my trip. The gentleman who greeted me was kind and welcoming. His English was limited, but no problem for basic communication. After checking me in, I went to my room to drop my bag so I could explore Varanasi that afternoon. He helped me turn on the AC, which seemed to work great, and turned something else on in the room that I didn't understand what it was. The bathroom smelt pretty terrible, but I do understand that India in general has a challenge with bathrooms, although this was worse than most. I asked for a different room given the bathroom, and the fact that the room was directly on the street and I could hear "the music of India" ie the cars that constantly honk on the roadways, all day long. There wasn't another room available that evening, but he promised to try to change my room for the next. After coming back from walking around Varanasi, exploring the new city I was in and seeing the evening aarti, I walked into my now cool room (AC worked well). I looked at the bed and saw SO MANY DEAD BUGS. They were literally all over the bed. Apparently the gentleman had turned on some sort of bug killer, and the property is very old with out screens in the windows. So, every time a bug came in, the spray caught it and it landed on my bed. I don't want to sleep somewhere with chemicals constantly in the air, nor do I want to sleep with bugs. It would be easier to solve the problem by simply installing screens, but hey, it's not my hotel. I decided to find another hotel, quite a challenge at now 9pm at night. But, I can't even tell you how many bugs were in the bed. I spoke to at least three different people at the hotel, trying to resolve the issue. Finally, given the late hour and the long travel day, I decided to just leave as no one was helping me. The most worrisome part of this whole situation is that the door to the outside road was chained and locked. I'm completely okay with that as part of their security measure. However, when I asked to leave, no one would open it. And I asked several several times, and remember I had already spoken to at least three people about the room. It was so upsetting and honestly scary as a single female traveler. The only way I got them to unlock the door was by raising my voice, and I was shaking as I exited the hotel. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. Please save yourself a lot of trouble and stay somewhere else. This was by far my worst experience in India and I traveled as a solo traveler for an entire month (which also tells you that I have had pretty amazing experiences in general thankfully!)…
Very pleasant stay at Vijaigarh Kothi. The room was enormous and classy, the bath room also very good, good shower with hot water and both very clean. All the hotel is beautiful and well decorated, a pleasure to the eyes. Very good location, in the south part of Varanasi, near Assi Ghat, which is a little bit quieter than other ghats of Varanasi, and at the same time you could reach all city´s attraction by walking (we only needed once a tuk-tuk to go the train station). All members of the staff are very nice and helpful, for instance Shubham with whom I exchange a lot of emails before coming and communication was very easy. We even met the owner of the property during breakfast time, without knowing he was the owner, and he was also very kind, extra polite and warm person, would like to compliment him about his beautiful Kothi. The food was very good, at breakfast as well than at dinner in the restaurant. I just don´t mark with excellent because there was a lot of noyse coming from the street, but I have to say that after 11pm or 11.30 pm the noyse stops untill the morning, so anyway it´s not a major problem. So, great stay, will come back and recommend it 100%.…
Ideal for families because of absolute security, lovely ambience, proximity to the ghat, home cooked food, wide array of breakfast options, perfect housekeeping and great rooms. Overall had a wonderful experience.

What a wonderful discovery, so central - within minutes of Assi Ghat. Our stay was very comfortable, very large room with good bed and a/c, staff so helpful and delicious food. Family owned and made to feel like we were staying with friends! Definitely will stay here again.
