We had an occassion to be at ‘Sangeet’ in the guleria kothi courtyard during april 2022. Every aspect of the occassion was made memorable and outstanding by the venue and their management. Id like to state that Ive stayed at several ‘palace’ hotels and attended the dance/singing programmes in their respective courtyards, e.g., taj lake-palace udaipur, brij rama varanasi, etc. While those are very good in their own right, I would rate this experience better, due to the intimate feeling of this courtyard, excellent acoustics, outstanding hosts, and last but not the least the beautiful temple adjacent to the courtyard (with 800+ YO murtis). Sangeet was followed by meal at the rooftop. This outlooks the ganges with a stunning view of varanasi river banks. Separtely, the rooftop itself is a beautiful place in its own right due to the excellent upkeep of the intricately constructed area. Needless to say food was excellent in variety and taste. One more point to highlight here versus other river-bank hotels in varnasi, is the approach to the hotel from the steps/banks of ganges. The plantings and their maintenance along with the lighting was exquisite and best in class for varnasi. It truly feels like a special and well caref for venue. One more aspect to consider is the interest that the family takes in locals and the relationships they have around them. While we were waiting for some people from our party to arrive, some local flutist showed up. The owners graciously had them seated and insisted they have tea with them. Needless to say we got to hear some melodious music while waiting at the river bank - quite a unique experience.

We stayed in the last week of December, had 4 rooms in this lovely boutique hotel right on the Ganesh ghat which is in between Raj ghat and Assi ghat. It’s a lovely place with all the amenities, clean and attentive staff. Mr. Faizan the manager and others at the reception were attentive and helpful. Pros- In spite of being in the hub of things, one can enjoy the peace and calm of the ghats on the clean ghats and luxury of the hotel. Serves non veg They have a wonderful guide Mr. Deepak 7080586800 ( 1500 -4hrs, 2100-8hrs) who took us on a lovely heritage walk, soaking in the soul of Varanasi, with a taste of the chai and chat with historical and legendary inputs, mystical and surreal. He took us to a temple where Vishnu had meditated to establish the Shiv linga , most locals also are unaware of.. the amaazing vibrations of the place , the silence it evokes is worth going to Varanasi for.. The Kashi Vishwanath is just 600mtrs, Kal Bhairav, Sankata Mata are all just a walk .. Guleria Kothi too has a beautiful temple in its premises. According to Deepak, the owners have bought the adjoining property and plan to convert that into a hotel too… Absolutely beautiful location on a peaceful ghat away from the madness of the touristy/commercial Kashi where the evening Aarti was most disappointing , too ritualistic with blaring loudspeakers, trying to outdo the neighbor, some of it totally non Vedic intonations of the sacred mantras , should be discontinued. The Ganga Aarti at Rishikesk and Haridwar makes you one with Ganga mata. Though everyone told us that we should go for the morning Aarti, which is real deal, will come back again to Varanasi and would like to stay at Guleria Kothi again, but with a Ganga facing room. Breakfast was good, with the local Kachori sabzi .. Cons- Guleria Kothi is not for senior citizens who have issues with the knees, as it can’t be accessed by a four wheeler. Also since it’s a heritage property, all rooms are not the same , some are way too small and can be cramped with a third person. It’s not toddler friendly. There are monkeys around. They charge for the boat ride to pick and drop each way, except for checkin and checkout, though they should have one drop and pick that should be complementary every day , since it’s not a joy ride, but almost a necessity. Tip- Get a ghat facing room.
