Amazing stay with lovely host. Homestay in the true sense. The fort is lovely and the rooms are very comfortable and big. The children also have things to do around the fort making the visit a fun one. The host take care of the small things to make your stay memorable. The food too is made to your taste. Must visit

Our trip to Rampura fort was an unique experience. It was like a home stay away from home, with all the comforts of modern amenities in a spacious room attached with huge terrace .we could enjoy the sunrise with chirping of birds .The food served was absolutely delicious, cooked according to our taste n requirements ( my husband being gluten sensitive ) . Mr Keshavendra n Mrs Padmini are wonderful hosts , looked after us like family , took us on a walk around fort and inside the fort , for boat ride and visit to temple located in centre of ravines . Overall it was a memorable trip .

Our stay at the Fort Rampura was nothing short of a fairytale. The rooms are really spacious and the fort has all modern amenities needed to be comfortable. The food was very hearty and our favourite was the singharas and the lovely cheese omlettes we had for breakfast. We got a tour of the fort and a dossier of the history of the fort from Ms. Padmini (our excellent host!) You can see the ravines from the fort and the views are breathtaking!!

Fort Rampura is a fantastic heritage property off the beaten path in a small village. The fort/palace itself was built going on 800 years ago and the current occupant (and our host) is 14th generation resident. Keshavendra Singh is a wonderful host...he dined with us, showed us around the fort and surrounding grounds, took us on a walk to the local temple and more. The rooms are full of curiosities and interesting family memorabilia and Keshavendra was happy to share his history. The food was excellent. We were served a variety of dishes (some local and some from other regions) and each was excellent. There is billiards and other games available if you wish and our host joined us for some evening fun. There are just four rooms and all have their own washroom, shower and bathtub. These are the same rooms the family stays in when visiting. This is a fantastic heritage property and a truly unique experience. Enjoy!

Animating Fort Rampura is Keshavendra Singh, grandson of the last Rajah and a modern 'rajah' himself, in every way. When you visit, he is there for you, full of good talk, happy to show you around his district, presiding over wonderful meals, and including you as he directs the many enterprises that make his restoration of the Fort possible. You don't just go for the place; you go for the in-depth rural experience and amazing insights your visit offers. Our three night stay in late February 2016 was the highlight of a four-week trip to Northern India. Important Note: TripAdvisor persists in locating Fort Rampura 'in' Lucknow. It is a four hour drive south of that city; leave Lucknow at 8:00 am to arrive for lunch. The last 20 miles are single-lane road, much under repair. The journey is totally worth it. The charm of Fort Rampura goes far beyond its origins as a Rajput castle in the Chambal Ravines of Southern Uttar Pradesh. The romantic in you will delight in the weapons on the walls, the hunting trophies, and the archives your host shares with you. You will learn about local politics, commercial real estate, how fairs and markets are organized, how sugar is refined, what the Jamuna fishermen catch, how privately run schools are strengthening Indian education, and how a town of 20,000 can be the almost feudal preserve of the heir to a great tradition. Keshavendra brought us to visit the family temple and its ever-praying priests. We visited a neighboring rajah's palace and saw how the moats, winding entries, and spike-studded doors of Rajput castles could foil attacks by elephants and men. Fort Rampura offers guests three very good meals per day based on their tastes; for us lunch and dinner included two flavorful vegetable dishes, a meat dish, dal, rice, breads, and a sweet. We enjoyed drinks with our host in the bougainvillea draped courtyard, and special appetizer treats like spicy new peas in their pods, homemade potato chips, and Jungli Maas (the Rajasthani hunters' dish made only of meat, oil, salt, chillies, and water). How could it taste so good? The four double rooms are generously sized with ensuite baths created in the 1990's - very comfortable. The beds are firm - Indian style, and there are screens on the windows and AC if needed. I stayed in a rooftop pavillion with views out over the countryside. Fort Rampura is a brilliant addition to the tourist options in expanse between Agra and Allahabad. Be sure to stay three nights - you'll love it.

Staying at Fort Rampura is unique and wonderful, and well worth the effort of getting there. It is a beautiful, romantically-crumbling palace, far off the beaten track, in a rural setting of villages, fields and dusty ravines, where dacoits once, not so many years ago, lay in ambush. Although it is crumbling, the hosts, Keshu and Padmini, do their very best to keep the inhabited parts in the best possible condition, as well as slowly restoring the parts that have fallen into disrepair. It is a Sisyphean task, rather more daunting than painting the Forth Bridge, but they seem to be fuelled by endless optimism, good humour and joie de vivre, which makes it all the more enjoyable to stay with them. They are the friendliest, loveliest hosts you could wish for, always smiling, always with an interesting story to tell. They personally show you around the neighbourhood, taking you to the local market, the family orchard, a sugar cane press, a village potter, a neighbouring palace, for a walk through the notorious ravines and for a boat trip on the River Yamuna. You can thus get to know rural India in a way that is impossible on the normal tourist trail. You can also enjoy excellent Indian home-cooking, with some of the most delicious and wholesome food we had on our whole trip. All in all, even if you only stay there for two nights, as we did, Fort Rampura is an experience you will never forget.

Nearly 70% of India's population lives in rural communities and for that reason alone you owe it to yourself to get out of the touristy cities and go see the real India. But don't worry, you won't be roughing it Fort Rampura. Here you get the five star treatment with rooms and service right out of fairy tale. Grand feasts for dinner, tranquil boat rides along rivers, and exploring ancient forts are just a taste of what your in for. The setting is at once romantic, epic, and awesome. Set aside a few days to come here and you will not regret it.

This place is really a once in a lifetime stay. I saw pictures online and was expecting it to be beautiful, but I was not expecting such wonderful hospitality and such a unique experience. Keshu was an amazing host and just all around incredible guy. He planned everything- all our entertainment- from having his driver take us into the village market, taking us himself on a boat ride, visiting his school, farms, orchards- and feeding us wonderful home cooked food the entire time. Not only were we staying in a palace, but we felt treated like royalty too. Thanks for an incredible time!

This being the 5th trip to India, we wanted to explore some places off the beaten track and more rural in nature. So, with some research we settled on the Fort at Rampura. This was the most incredible place to stay, it is called a home stay, but with the hosts Keshu and Padmini it should be called a "family stay", that is how you are treated. The Fort itself is a site full of history and stories, the food was as good as I have eaten in India, and there was nothing our hosts would not do to make us comfortable. We had fantastic conversations around the bonfires every night and learned so much about the area. Keshu and his son Avi took us on daily trips in the area, visiting schools, a boat ride on the Yamuna River, and a visit to the local market. One day I was reading in the den and Padmini came by and suggested that I lay out on the couch to be more comfortable. She said she does it, and that "you should do whatever makes it sweet for you." Best three days I spent and hope to return again and stay with the outstanding family. Thanks for hospitality. Jeff

We stayed here for 2 nights in the gorgeous breezy room on the terrace. Our kids (aged 14, 12 and 3) loved exploring the fort and its unforgettable antiques. Fort Rampura is quite an unusual place and totally off the tourist trail. Padmini and Keshu are super gracious, kind and take such effort in making sure that you are having a fantastic time. When we asked if we could have dinner in the older part of their fort, they lit up with diyas that evening, setup a bonfire and made it magical. Our excursions to their family orchard in tractors, the visit to the village potter, and the sunset boat ride on the river were also a huge hit with the whole family. Highly recommended for the traveller who seeks the extraordinary and the authentic.
