TEJI'S AWTAR MANSION is named after SARDAR AWTAR SINGH ANAND, the patriarch of the Anand Family; and his son SARDAR TAJINDER SINGH ANAND fondly known amongst family and friends as TEJI; who bought this bungalow from the British in 1947 after Independence. The bungalow, located at the heart of Agra Cantonment, originally had more than 80 rooms. Over the years, it has been renovated to meet the changing needs of the family and now stands in its present form. SARDAR AWTAR SINGH ANAND came to Agra in late 1930's from Rawalpindi [now in Pakistan] on transfer as Additional Garrison Engineer in Military Engineering Services. After India became independent in 1947 he left service to start his own construction firm under the name of AWTAR SINGH & SONS which went on to become a very well reputed construction agency. He was a highly respected member of the society and a devout Sikh. During his life time he was honored by changing the name of the road on which AWTAR MANSION is located from Pensioners Road to SARDAR AWTAR SINGH ANAND ROAD in 1960, a rare honour for any living person. Golf sets and balls are available for hire. The golf course has great views of the Taj Mahal and is a 15 minute drive from Awtar Mansion. Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
This homestay is truly remarkable compared to some we had been to. The rooms are gigantic, beds comfortable and Kori the owner makes you feel like part of the family. She would breakfast with us each day and on arrival sat us down in her garden pavilion and fed us masala chai and homemade biscuits. She is a remarkable Lady. Her Chef Pinku is fabulous as well and my friend and I had a private cooking class with him( needs to be around in advance) which we also sat down and ate with Kori in the main house. Chef Pinku delighted in showing us his interpretation of generations of handed down recipes. Our room was not serviced but this did not bother us in the slightest as we were only there for 2 night and whatever we asked for we were given graciously

This is honestly a home away from home - staying in one of only 6 guest rooms with Anand family will give you the impression and feeling to be paart of the family. Rooms have all needed comfort including coffee/tea maker and breakfast is really good. If possible ask to join the family dinner - awesome! Loved to stay there!

If you look for a place that is not like a standard hotel, this is the place to be. Unfortunately, we have stayed only one night but that was a pleasure from the reception till the leave. We've been greatly welcomed and had dinner with the family. We had great discussions together forgetting we were hosts... we were like in the family ! I was a bit sick and it was taken into account... great moments of share ! Moreover, in the morning, you have your breakfast while chatting with the grand mother who is so friendly and can talk forever explaining lots of stories ! Thank you all for the good stay and hope to see you again once !

I do not even know how to start with this review. I should start by mentioning that it is an oasis of peace in Agra. All the external decoration, seconded with plants and motives, gives them a unique human touch. I fell in love with the place because of the history of the Awatar Mansion. The hosts welcome you as if you were part of the family and give you a tour explaining the meaning of every building, room, and interior design. They go above and beyond to make sure that your stay is hassle-free. I would definitely recommend it to all my family and friends, and I am sure I will visit them again.

A beautiful and historic building inside and out, the entrance hall is stunning. We had such a friendly and warm welcome from our hosts and their very friendly Golden Retrievers.
Breakfast was wonderful, especially the warm marble cake. Sad we were there for such a short time.

An experience which is unforgettable. We were 2 families, my family and my sisters family who had come down from California and were visiting us. We planned a trip to Agra and we're totally fascinated by this place. A very warm welcome was given and the property was awesome. It was so much home like. Infact became good friends with the owners. Had all our meals together and shared conversations. They were so full of warmth. The food was excellent the ambience was so calm and surrounded by greenery. The location is also very central, very close to The Taj. A place must visit. Have already recommended to lots of friends and relatives. For us if visiting Agra this is the place to be.

Fantastic place to stay in Agra. The area where it is base is green and quite. Room are very comfortable with AC split and nice bathroom. Beautiful garden to relax after a hard day of work. The entire place is very clean. If you chose to have a diner at night, the Food it is just excellent. Hospitality of Host family is wonderful and enjoy to have guest with them, they do every things to make your stay as much comfortable as possible. Place is also base in the centre of Agra, so every things it is very near.
I used to go in 5 stars Internationals Hotels as I am travelling very often in India with a minimum of 1 month stay, but since I met this place and see the facility of this home stay, I stay only with this great friends. With Hotel you feel lonely, with Anand family, this doesn´t happen as you become a part of the family and spend great time during conversation around a drink.

This is not a home stay. It’s your home! That how Simi, Gini and Mrs. Anand made us feel. We spent 3N here and had a wonderful time. It was like staying at a friend’s place and never felt we had checked-in to a hotel. Clean and large rooms, excellent service and great food make you want to go back there for another short vacation. A special mention to Pinku, who under the tutelage of Gini, turned out some excellent dishes. We had all our breakfasts and dinners at the mansion and not a single dish was ever repeated. They have a large entertainment room, where we spent most of our evenings chatting with the family. The conversations then invariably extended into their garden, where we sat around a warm fire with single malts and met Simi’s friends talking our conversations late into the night. Their two pet white boxers, Jackie and Chivy (named after Jack Daniels and Chivas Regal), gave us loving company as well. The Anand’s have not only opened their homes, but also their generous and loving hearts to their guests. We are certainly going back there again.
