The Palace has a history and is at a nice place to stay in Ooty . The rooms are spacious but the beds are a bit smaller . You only feel like royalty but not in terms of service. The wi fi , and the telephones were not working due to a thunderstorm earlier but could not be restored, even...

Though the rest of Ooty is hot, the climate inside the hotel premises is very pleasant. Warm hospitality....Situated in the heart of the town...but surprisingly serene....Good for a short break to escape from the boiling summer... but I think will be very cold during winter and pre and post winter months.

I wish I had taken off my rose coloured glasses and taken notice of the bad reviews of this place. I think a lot of people have though as we rattled around feeling like we were the only ones there. I think the Welcome Heritage people have a lot to answer for as the staff were all friendly and helpful,...

Have been visiting this place more than twenty years now as I have always been fascinated by palaces around the world as each palace has its own identity, history and charm... Fernhill Palace was the erstwhile summer residence of the Maharaja of Mysore. The first Fernhills bungalow was built in 1844 as a private residence in the hill station Ooty in the...

What's not to like about feasting on Anglo-Indian fare in the ballroom of the former summer palace of the Mysore Maharajas? A high ceiling, Burma teak panelling, antique furniture and decor and heaps of nostalgia by way of family photographs can make you feel regal, if only for a short while. French windows on both sides overlooked lush gardens almost...

This place is a very grand structure, and the rooms (in fact suites!) are magnificent. This was the summer Palace of the Mysore Maharajas and was built in 1844. My suite (single occupancy) had three rooms with very tall ceilings. The rooms were cool, but also had air conditioning. However, it's now getting a bit faded in parts. There is...

This hotel has 19 suites. We stayed for two nights and were the only guests in residence. That means that we were considerably outnumbered by the staff, and were therefore somewhat "overpowered" with service. A beautiful touch was being provided with hot water bottles. On the downside, the bar is shut and looks like it has been that way for...

The place has got a lot of history that comes along with it, i wont deny that, but except for the building i wont say the property has been maintained princely. Bad grounds around the beautiful building take a little of the romance surrounding the idea of staying in a mini holiday palace! The rooms take you back to the...

CHARLATANS – Do NOT stay at this hotel My Partner and I booked five nights at this hotel for a stay in April 2015 on the basis of information on their website (Welcome Heritage) and from positive reviews posted earlier by other visitors. What was once a beautiful and impressive place has been allowed by its owners to fall into...

It was a sudden plan to go to Ooty with a fren who had studied there. We literally booked this hotel while standing on its gate. I just fell in love with its architecture. The staff was courteous and the service was prompt. The also upgrade us to a suite overlooking the sprawling lawns of the palace. There are rumours...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Fernhills Palace is the summer palace of the Mysore Maharajas. It was built in 1844 by Capt. F. Cotton. It changed several hands as the time went by till mid-1860s, when it was temporarily named Moonesami and served as one of the Ooty's earliest club hotels. The year was 1873 when Ferrnhills Palace found a new royal owner. His Highness Chamarajendra Wadiyar X is the first Indian royal to buy an English holding in Ooty. Since then Ferrnhills Royale Palace has been with the Wadiyar dynasty and today it continues in the capable hands of His Highness Srikanta Datta Narasimharaja Wadiyar.
