The Madurai Residency is located in the busy street of Madurai city about 2km from the railway station. Major advantage of staying in this place is that the major attraction of this city , the Madurai Meenakshy Temple is walking distance away from here, as one can reach the southern gopuram ( tower ) to make an entry to the temple. Staff at reception is cordial and accept cards and cash as the case may be. Parking area is aproblem but the security staff is quite helpful in this regard. Rooms are well furnished and maintained with all facilities including wifi etc. bath com toilet is slightly smaller but comfortable. Breakfast if included in the room is complementary and is mainly south indian cuisine with cornflakes and bread butter etc.The restaurant is in the top floor and in addition there is one more roof top restaurant which commands a wonderful view of the temple city.

We stayed in the Madurai Residency for two nights on arrival to India. The staff are very friendly and helpful. This is a big hotel situated in the centre of the city. It is walking distance to the Meenakshi Temple which is a wonderful temple. The room was average but clean and functional. We opted for the rate which included dinner. We did not hold out much hope but the dinner was EXCELLENT. The restaurant is on the rooftop with a great view of the city and another big plus is that they serve beer. We were subsequently to find out that very few places served beer so this is a real treat. Reception staff very efficient. They could organise all sorts of tours and taxis for you if you want but we like to organise things ourself. All in all a good choice for a couple of nights.

I was in Madurai from 5th to 9th March for a local entertainment program. Booked Madurai Residency Hotel and was happy with my right choice. Located at the busy city center with human and traffic flow. I was welcomed by Mr, Syed and Mr.Vijay at the Front Desk.Superb service by both who checked me in within minutes. The hotel is clean and well maintain. Staff are very responsive within minutes...The maintenance and housekeeping and the room service. The view is very good from the rooftop dining area with the busy street below and the famous Meenakshi Temple Gopuram.(PyramidalTower) On my 1st day I went for dinner and had our first Madurai briyani at a restaurant. Just dusty everywhere as the city is going tru a transformation with works on roadside and footpath. It will be a different Madurai City by year end. Next day had breakfast we had our usual indian food.Good and friendly service , staff Bravo. Then headed to the famous Madurai Meenakshi in the morning to avoid massive crowd. You may walk tru the busy street or hop into a auto which can bring u there in about 5 minutes. Its a huge temple with for entrances. North, South, East and West with huge Gopuram (Pyramidal Tower). U have to pay an entrance fees if doing a prayer and for a normal visit too. Only Hindu worshipers allowed into the worshiping area. Also visit the Thousand Pillar Museum which has many Hindu history on GODs. No Photography allowed and have to surrender cameras and hand phones at the entrance. There are many souvenir, saree shops and restaurants around the temple area. Touting is popular..just avoid it. You can visit the 17th century Thirumalai Nayak Palace erected in 1636 AD by Madurai Nayak Dynasty King Thirumalai Nayak. Its a Dravidian and Rajput style of a Palace.50 Rupees for foringners entry. Last few days I was busy with the local entertainment prog in a nearby village.Only move around the city to taste Madurai food for food.Try the Jigarthanda A cold beverage with a basic ingredients include milk, almond gum, sarsaparilla root syrup, sugar and ice-cream. They are everywhere,Try It. I would like to thanked all the hotel staff for their best service during my stay in the hotel. Mr.Sundar, Mr. Palpandi Laundry staff .all the security at the main entrance, Front Office staff ,Mr. Palanisamy and room service staff and the housekeeping staff. Apology if I missed some names. See them in photos. Hope to meet all again in my next trip. All visitors take note Madurai Residency. Thank You and Regards. Cheers Mohamed Rafik Ali

The Residency is well-located in the temple area of Madurai, good for shopping and walking. Staff are always helpful and attentive. Breakfast buffet is good, roof-top restaurant at night should be experienced and the food has always been very good. Internet was not working on my last visit, which was problematic. Hotel management could have been more helpful in finding a way for us to contact family to let them know we had arrived. Always enjoy staying at the Residency.
