Welcome to De-rock jungle living, Coonoor An idiomatic expression to describe De-Rock Jungle living, Coonoor will sum up as …An UP IN THE CLOUDS experience. Our property is a slice of cloud space like no other where you can be yourself, and experience life as lived in the hills, inhale the fragrance the seasons fresh bloom, drink the waters of a fresh mountain spring, marvel at the glory of a sunrise amidst the mountains, listen to the untiring bird song , watch the flutter of the butterflies, witness the scintillating view of the plains below by night fall, hear the sound of silence, and let nature gently rock your mind into melancholic thought, compel you to unfetter yourself from the complexities of daily existence and completely distract you from the present. De-Rock is located amidst a tea garden at an altitude of 6500 ft above sea level bordered by the famous Lambs Rock view point, an overhanging rock cliff on one side and a natural rain forest on the far end. It offers mersmerising views of the receding mountains and the plains below. This is also where the clouds gently kiss your face and make you leave your worries to the plain below. In most part of the year our location resembles an “Island in the cloud”. We want to share this slice of heaven with individuals like you who seek time away from the hustle and bustle of life to rest, relax and rejuvenate. We want to truly shine forth by our humility, hospitality and eagerness to please. We’d like to requote our old pals Timon and Pumba to just remind you folks ...“Hakuna mattata” it means “no worries” . We want you to experience nature and embask in its glory, rid yourself of all worries. Pretend it’s 1945 and talk to each other. You’re here on vacation so “Hakuna Mattata” . You are invited.

Doors and windows do not get locked properly.Exorbitant prices in the attached restaurant. No hot water. No room cleaning done instead of multiple reminders. Watre gets accumulate din bathroom after bath.Water flows outside from commode pipe.Monley menance.Monkeys can enter through windows even though they are closed and eat everything kept inside the rooms. The owner Charles only does sweet talk and nothing else.

It is possible this place was good at some point in the past, but as of now...Aug'22 it is best avoided. In Coonnoor you will find much better options for same or less price. The good things: 1. The staff are polite but mostly unskilled 2. Wooden structures and layout hint to a some tasteful build up....but very poor upkeep now Things that will make this a bad choice: 1. Very poor upkeep of the place, peeling paint, aging bathrooms, dusty decor 2. A very small property so the only way thing to do is to drive out of walk to nearby Lamb's rock 3. There is very limited view from any point in the hotel, as there is a forest just across the windows,.. 4. It is not jungle living, but a very modest sized tea garden estate 5. The food is expensive and very rudimentary. Complemetary breakfast excludes bread, eggs and anything other than the day's south indian fare. 6. Chicken was the only non-veg on offer (beside eggs which ran out the second day). Chicken was always cut in nugget sized pieces making the experience worse 7. For what was served, charging Rs 400 for a meal even when it just meant paneer bhurji and two rotis was just atrocious 8. There was no hot water kettle or tea arrangements in the room. at Rs4250/- per room, these are expected. 9. The ground floor room where i stayed had a dirty bathroom. Unfortunately then i realised it is because the water in the taps is itself super muddy so much so you do not feel like having a bath and can barely get yourself to wash your hands. I do not know how they can rent out a room with such plumbing. This was not so with first floor room that i shifted to later when it became available. 10. The rooms in the first floor were better....we had taken 5 rooms which included the hopeless ground floor one. I do think it was overpriced. 11. the hotel itself has no activity , not even a hike or an evening bonfire for the guests

It is truly the best option for resorts in Coonoor. With an amazing view, delicious complementary breakfast and cozy rooms the prices are definitely reasonable and worth it. Lovely vibe, creative architecture

Visited with family there and it was a worst experience visiting their as guest. Spiders roaming in rooms and washrooms, no room service provided, worst dinner one can have at any hotel, you need to be cautious with monkeys every time. In breakfast they only served idling with sambhar and coconut chutney...nothing else....after sometime a person came and served us vadas....I asked them for omelet they said it will be chargeable. Will never recommend this to anyone...don't waste your money and time on it.

We were welcomed with a overflowing toilet which was stinking. After sometime they fixed the toilet n we entered our room which was nowhere like the rooms posted in pictures. The rooms looked very old and the sheets on the bed were not every neat. - There is no intercom or calling options if we need help. So we have to either call the staff on their mobiles or walk to the reception everytime we need something. - Wifi doesn't work at all in the rooms. And there is no mobile network as well. So if u need to use internet, you need to step out to the garden or dining area - misleading pictures of the garden n dining area. The dining area is very congested and the dining tables are extremely wide. You can pass things from one side to other only if both the people from each side stand n stretch their hands to the maximum. Garden is just like a corridor n not at all like how it looks on the website n pics. - There is no kettle in the rooms, we need to call the staff or walk up to the reception cum dining area to ask for hot water everytime we need it. Since it's a cold place, The hot water they give gets cold in a while n we end up having room temp water again. They don't even boil the water so that it stays hot for sometime atleast. - POOP STAINED TOWELS WERE PROVIDED!! The towel had dried poop all over it. When i showed that towel to the Manager, not even a single apology from him. He just scolded the staff n went away. - blankets were torn from the sides. - Water gets over as soon as two people take a shower and AGAIN we have to call or walk upto the reception to get water in taps - No Menu - there is no fixed menu, they ask what we want and just cook that for us , which i actually liked in the beginning, but they charged us a bomb for the very average food that they provided. Prices of the dishes are made up on the spot. This was the worst hotel experience i had. The kind of service they provided was nowhere at par to the price we paid for it. Extremely be disappointed with the place. Wont recommend to anyone.

Wow...this gem is hidden in the edge of coonoor...a stones-throw distance from the Lamb rock..which is a good view point overseeing the KA and Kerala border. The hotel is a wonderful work of art...rooms are big with lot of light and air...the restaurant or dining hall is a highlight...lots of artefacts , quotes , showcase items....and everything with an african touch...once u come inside the dinning hall...it is so positively vibrant that u need to be there...to feel it. Parking is not big but yeah u can park alongside the road which is safe. The food is also good and tasty...nice preparation and display. I feel a special thought have gone into appearance of the resort and it looks a best choice for a crazy weekend. This resort is placed in the beginning of the De-rock tea garden ..you have 2 choices of rooms..plain view and mountain view...plain view overlooks the lamb rock , and the other shows you the adjoining mountain ranges. A next visit soon with family..Thanks to Mr charles for arranging everything for us...a definite recommendation from my end for this resort...

Where do I begin? 1. The property is perched on a hill right next to Lamb''s Rock viewpoint which gives you an amazing view. I love how the restaurant and garden are setup and decorated. I could sit in either of the places for hours with a book. The room that I stayed in was the Bison and it's basic but clean. It is made of wood and bamboo so it does tend to get hot during the day in summers and cold at night. Just something to note while making a booking. The room is however very clean and well maintained. 2. The people are very hospitable and quite accommodating. They always have a smile on their faces whilst interacting with you. The owner of the property Mr. Charles Nathan is highly knowledgeable about the town and very well connected, so if you want to shop in Coonoor, he will be able to guide you to the right stores. 3. I was pleasantly surprised with the food. It was delicious and well planned with a lot of variety. The reason I was pleasantly surprised was that I had a terrible experience in Ooty the day prior to checking in to Derock so I presumed that it would be similar and boy was I wrong! :) Thank you, Charles and team for making my stay memorable. I will definitely be going back again very soon!

Lovely place to stay. The views from the room are beautiful. Charles is a wonderful person to talk with. He goes that extra mile to make his guests comfortable. His recommendations to visit places around was quite helpful. The food at the kitchen was homely. Babu , Madesh and Joseph treated guests with all smiles. The walk close to the place to Lamb's rock was simply superb. Thanks for the memorable experience Charles. Will definitely be back.

A lovely stay with Childhood friends and their spouses. Never felt the need to step out from the Resort, when you are being looked after Mr Charles the Host and owner. Mr Charles network and knowledge about Coonoor and his experience as a Planter were what made our stay blissful. Not to forget his planning of what he was going to serve us for Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner. If you are Foodie , this should be on your bucket list. Our special thanks to his ever helpful smiling staff.

The experience of De Rock begins with meeting Charles, our gracious host. From the moment we entered the place to ask for an impromptu booking to the moment we signed out - Charles was all consideration and solicitous care. he not only ensured that we had a great stay at his place, but he also arranged for all our sightseeing trips, personally instructing the drivers on where to stop and what points to visit tailoring the entire trip to the convenience of my elderly parents. He also arranged for a very special evening program to mark the 50th anniversary of my parents - complete with a cake, music and special dinner. The next night the celebrations continued with a bonfire and storytelling and songs. The rooms are all spacious and well maintained. Each room has a unique decor and view. Every room is an experience not to be missed. The staff is very helpful and courteous especially Emanuel and Babu. A stay at De rock is not complete without a cozy chat with Charles. He's extremely busy, but if you can, do get him to tell you the anecdotes about the place. Hint: every rock, every stone, every nook in the resort has a story behind it and they carry personal meaning and significance. All in all, it was this that elevated the stay from a holiday to a personal experience for us.
