This was my 3rd time at the Ayurveda Retreat and I enjoyed it as much as ever. There is really authentic Ayurveda here, not just a little bit. The food is mega fine, the staff is very friendly and always helpful, the doctor is competent, dedicated and has a solution to every problem, the treatments are also very good. I came here for the first time 18 years ago because I had burnout and was totally exhausted. At that time, I came home after 3 weeks of treatment very strengthened, full of energy and with a calm head. This lasted for a very long time and today I only go there when I feel I need time out and want to regain my energy. Besides, it got rid of my migraines, my exhaustion and my sleeping problems. I will definitely come back.

Place is very calm and beautiful. Loved the food and card from everyone. Special thanks to Rekhaji, Therapist and Doctor for helping out and providing guidance and care in each step. Home away from home, everyone here is loving and caring. A place to heal, renew your energy and life. Thank you so much for a lovely and restful stay. I will always remember your center and I hope return as soon as possible. All the best.

As an avid traveller and yoga teacher, I have to say this was the worst place I have ever experienced. I have never been pushed to write a bad review until now because it was truly a horrendous experience - so bad that myself and half of the other guests left early despite paying for the retreat in full. To start, what was advertised was not supplied! It was advertised that we were to have: two yoga classes daily, we were to have two therapists massaging us at the same time, and that the food we were being provided was for our specific “dosha” type. None of those things happened. The yoga teacher (who was also the Ayurveda doctor) was 2 months out of school and had never completed his yoga certification. He was also our mediation teacher and was not qualified or professional in either of the classes or as a doctor. Firstly, he wasn’t actually teaching us yoga! He instead would take us through martial arts style stretching and after about a week he briefly (and barely) instructed each of us to do a certain amount of sun salutations based on our ability. If that wasn’t bad enough, he would push people to do things their body was not able to do, to the point one of the women who had serious hip issues could barely walk after class. As a yoga teacher this is very scary and worrying! On top of that his cell phone ringer would constantly be going off in both the yoga and meditation classes. And of all the ringers to have, he had an Eminem song! The most alarming but hilarious experience was when we were in meditation class and I could hear someone snoring, I opened my eyes and it was the teacher/ dr passed out with an erection! Insane! To top it off, one day after non-yoga, he asked how I was feeling regarding my stress. As I was answering, he interrupted me and said “sorry one moment” and he started filming/ taking photos of the clouds over the mountains telling me how much he loves photography! On to the treatments/ Non Massages! This was the most disappointing aspect. Firstly and most importantly it was completely unhygienic! The same Potli (herbal pouches for massages) were being used for all of us! Well, the women and the men are separate. One of the women asked how long they could be used for, and the treatment woman said up to one year! Hearing this, I asked the doctor how long they could be used and he said 1 week maximum! These things were black and I would often see them sitting on the very dusty non swept floor beside the bowl she would occasionally have them sitting in. I have video of all of this- so if you’d like to see it just let me know. The cotton balls they would use to keep oil from entering our ears during Shirodhara (another treatment for de-stressing) would be left on the table or floor upon my entry. I literally flung one off with my elbow that was still on the head rest from the last woman. The massages themselves, were mostly terrible. To start with the second day she was massaging me, she started talking about needing tips. This is while she’s massaging me. I felt terrible for her and consoled her. At the same time, I’m here to relax, I specifically came to be taken care of as I run a business and haven’t had a vacation for years! This went on pretty much every day I was in there. So much so I was dreading going in there, and when I did, I came out feeling worse. I decided to stop doing treatments a few days before I left because I felt like I was going in there to be tortured. The massages themselves were more like oil rubs. When I would ask her to use some pressure she would use her elbow along my scapula and end up elbowing me in the ribs. I would ask her to use her fingers and annoyed tell me “52 massages I know- I know everything”. She also left a massive bruise on one of my arms one day when she was annoyedly massaging me. As someone who goes for massages on a regular basis and has been for all kinds of massages throughout South East Asia, this was the only experience I’ve ever had that was so terrible- and expensive! The food was pretty good but repetitive, a few nights were amazing! The chef was nice, but I did find hair in my food twice. Also, we were all eating the exact same food despite all of us having different dosha types -based on what the doctor said. Myself and another woman were supposed to avoid salt, and several times the food was so salty (and I LOVE salt) that we had to ask him if he could make it less salty next time which he was mostly better at but would still over salt. In regards to the place itself. It is run down. The place is fairly large, but hasn’t been well maintained. Both myself and another couple had rain coming through our ceilings. The cherry on top was the owner. She was incredibly nice at first, and then she wasn’t! After the other guests had left early because they were so disappointed, and I was the only one left, I very politely and quietly told her that I was having a terrible experience (I’d already mentioned all of my issues to the doctor and manager earlier in the trip), and asked if it would be possible to refund me for the week I would not be there. She outright called me a liar, that nothing I was saying was true and that all I wanted was money, and that it was my fault the other guests left! She even pulled the doctor in and he had to admit that I’d told him all these things and they got into an argument! It was crazy! At the very end they both say it’s up to me if I want to leave but that I have the option to stay and that they can get Uma, the cleaning lady, to give me massages! How ridiculous?! I have all of this on video too- 1.5 hours of ridiculousness and a complete waste of my time. Obviously, I did not get my money back and I left the next day to what was actually a really beautiful place with incredible service nearby. Not an Ayurveda place. I was done with that for the trip. I was actually referred this place, and half of the people that were at the retreat had come years before and loved it. Turns out, the prior doctor and yoga teacher (who were not the same people!) were incredible and thats why they came back. I am so sad that I didn’t get to experience that, but instead wasted my money on a place where basic standards aren’t being met. Below are a couple screen shots of the video I took in the treatment room. I didn't realize I couldn't upload a video here.

Don't go!!! Let me start by saying that I first visited this Ayurveda Retreat 14 years ago and my experience then was so good that I decided to take my 21 year old daughter with me this time. What a disaster!!! The Ayurvedic "Doctor" had qualified 2 months before we arrived and had neither the experience nor the character to handle even simple questions about his "treatments". His responses became more and more defensive aggressive and when I had to leave a yoga class early because I hadn't slept for more than 4 hours a night in the week that we'd been there he first asked my daughter if this was true and then asked her if I had any mental problems! The much vaunted day of "Purgation" was a complete bust, the doctor admitted to giving me a much higher dose of the medicine than he gave to my daughter and the other guests and the result was that I vomited it all up 20 minutes after taking it and so the day was a waste. He had no answer to why he did this or what else he could do for me. The "yoga" classes had been cut from 2 to 1 a day and it was a blessing as the "doctor" was also the yoga instructor, having never qualified as a yoga instructor and whose only experience was 12 years of martial arts. I cannot tell you how disappointing it was to be in India and not be able to enjoy actual Yoga, under the guidance of a Yogi. We did some breathing, some stretches that were martial arts stretches and then told to do anything from 8 - 22 sun salutations - and that was the daily yoga class. The Meditation at 5pm daily was also taken by the "doctor" and after the Ohms and breathing we were instructed to MEDITATE, while the doctor plodded around the wooden floored studio, saying CONCENTRATE at intervals, which was actually better than the days that he went to the back of the room and watched videos (with the sound on) on his cell phone. The promised Nature Walks after each meal left us somewhat confused as there is so much development around the Retreat that we had to ask the other guests where exactly they walked each day - along the roads, through the adjacent housing estate, and to the next town - yet another disappointment. And then the famed Ayurvedic treatments - previously administered by 2 therapists, now given by only one therapist who began our journey by telling me at our first meeting that she hadn't earned anything during Covid, that her husband had been very ill and that the owner of the Retreat, Rekha, paid her only 500 Rupees a morning, or 700 Rupees for a full day and could I help her out!!! The massages were mainly vigorous oil rubs and the other treatments were as disappointing. Most concerning here was that the massage room was not cleaned daily, I doubt that the oil was changed for the Shirodhara treatments and the same muslin pouches were used for everyone for the Kizhi treatment. The promised herbal bath at the end of each treatment turned out to be, again, a shared bar of soap that was given to you to scrub off with while sitting on a plastic stool and rinsing off with a bucket of hot water. It must be noted that the Therapist resigned in disgust with her treatment by Rekha after working for her for 22 years, she left the same day we did and wasn't given even a reference. We had booked in for 9 days but cut our trip short by two days (should this happen to you DO NOT expect any refund, it will not be forthcoming) and left with a profound sense of having been taken for a ride, and a very unpleasant one at that. Rekha, the owner, was not interested in engaging with us about our complaints and was not present when we left. This was probably for the best as she was only pleasant when we arrived and paid and from there on skulked around glaring at everyone when our paths crossed. The ONLY positive about the Retreat was the Food and the Chef, Naresh, who has also been there for 20 years and is an excellent chef and a wonderful human being with a great sense of humour. He was the shining light at each meal and I am sorry that his service was also not appreciated by Rekha. The grounds and buildings are in a sad state of disrepair, with weeds growing wild in the gardens and along the pathways, plastic on the roof of one of the rooms to prevent leaking and haphazard repairs to the ceiling in our room, and paint peeling off all the buildings and wooden covered walkways. If you are thinking of visiting this Retreat I would advise you to reconsider, it was not cheap, Rs 160 000 for my daughter and I for 9 days, and it was definitely not worth the time, effort of getting there and overall experience. Do your research and go somewhere else!

I had the pleasure of waking up with a smile to a serene and scenic view. The place and the people made me feel being home away from home. Rekha Ma was like a mom to me attending to my needs and so was the Manager, Venugopal. I am thankful to Dr Hari & Dr Vairamuthu who so patiently answered all my questions with regards to ayurveda and the treatment that was given to me. Every meal was prepared by Naresh to my dietary requirements, it was a culinary adventure as well. I left feeling rejuvenated, inspired - Thanks Ayurveda Yoga Retreat Team !

The place and people there were amazing. The place is located in a very serene and in an absolutely beautiful environment surrounded by the mountains. The staff was really very nice.. The host Rekhaji was just an amazing lady. One feels the warmth and loving care that she has for everyone that visits the place. The massage lady Lali was just amazing. This place does need little TLC but would definitely go there again. Sam and Dolly

I had a wonderful experience here for 9 days. It starts with Rekha-ji, who has dedicated her life and this center for service and healing for all. Far from a branded resort this is a place of healing, with kind attention given to each of us to heal any and all issues we face - in particularly my thanks for the wonderful healthy and delicious food (thanks to Naresh) to great ayurvedic care (thanks to Doctor Vairamutthu) to incredible massages that are so healing (thanks to Rupesh). The ladies who work here in cleaning are also very kind. I would recommend directly calling Rekha rather than using the email option.
