Hi, We had stayed in Wallwood in the month of April and it was really nice cosy homely property and very clean and well maintained. A special shout for Robin for his hospitality and extremely prompt response. Geetha had been also very friendly. Food was very homely and well prepared and suited to our taste buds. Cleanliness & hygiene was at optimum levels. The only thing what I did not like is, we were given a very small room (Eucalyptus) inspite of booking well in advance. We were a family of 2 adults and a kid. The beds were 2 single beds with separate mattresses and extremely uncomfortable. Moreover, the room was supposedly one of the best rooms, however I would suggest never pick this room as it is next to the dining room and each time you go out and in of the room, you need to move amongst the guests in the dining area. I found a huge privacy issue in the room as it gets noisy from the dining room and there is constant movement outside your room. It was a disturbing experience and the room was way too small for a family. I was not at all happy with my room. Stay was welcoming as the property is very well maintained but the promised room was very bad. I would go back next time but hope to get something better when I am travelling with my kid. Regards, KC…
Wallwood Garden is a nineteenth-century mansion designed in the British-style with sprawling lawns and gardens, nestled in the upper reaches of Coonoor. It has 7-8 rooms, aptly named in floral accents. We stayed here for two nights – on 24th and 25th December 2021. Being a group of five which included two small children and an octogenarian mother-in-law, we were allotted two inter-connected rooms named Jacaranda and Acacia which opened into the well-manicured lawn and were to our absolute delight. Since we love to stay in Heritage properties, we could not have asked for any place better. Coonoor being a more laid-back and serene holiday getaway in comparison to its more famous and over-hyped counterpart – Ooty; Wallwood Garden suited exactly to our liking. While the entire process of booking the property to check-in was a smooth one, the experience of stay has been languorously nostalgic courtesy, Ms Geetha the Manager and her team of efficient and extremely affable staff comprising the ever-energetic and charming Robin (Senior Waiter), Shiva (Chef), Vetri (the shy Waiter), Shivakumar (Sentinel at the Gates) and an army of Housekeepers working silently whose names unfortunately, we don’t know. On the evening of 24th December being Christmas eve, there was a bonfire organised in the lawn and a gala buffet dinner was laid out. While we sat next to the fire-pits sipping wine accompanied by lively Christmas music played from the music player, we made new friends with fellow guests. The food was delicious and while the celebrations went on past-midnight, the entire staff were on their toes early next morning to cater to the guests. The breakfast was varied and sumptuous after which we toured the nearby hotspots. Post-lunch we lazed in the vintage cast-iron garden chairs in the lawn, basking in the mellow winter sun. During our short stay, we grew a fondness for all the members of the staff which developed into a strong bonding after we departed from the hotel. We miss their smiling faces and warmth, which went beyond the call of their professional duties and till this day, gives us a feeling of having been taken care of by our close relatives or friends. They took exceptional care of my old mother-in-law at every step she took, which was a very moving gesture. The children thoroughly enjoyed spinning on the sports bicycles kept at the porch and were treated to a great deal of pampering by the staff, particularly Robin and Ms Geetha! Overall, I would recommend Wallwood Garden as a ‘must-stay’ to all those travellers who are seeking to take a quiet break far from the madding crowd amidst an old-English charm and a hospitality with a personal touch. A few memorable snapshots are uploaded below.…
We stayed at this cozy cottage in Dec’21 and had taken 4 rooms as we were a group of 11. Staff is exceptionally friendly and the property manager Geetha runs this place really well and with lot of passion. Rooms were good - as expected from a colonial Bunglow, nothing fancy but well kept and clean with all basic amenities. Service was also very good but what needs to be majorly improved is the food - options and taste both. Full marks to the Buffett breakfast but taste of other items that we had from the ala carte menu were average in Menu offered can be limited in terms of No of items offered but taste should not be compromised. Overall the food wasn’t bad but not too great either. Overall experience was good.
I went here for a lunch, just to checkout Manjit Bawa's Sketches on the wall.... The staff prepared a lunch, tasty and spicy. I found the place to be cozy and inviting and I will certainly look forward to stay with them. As I was walking out I notices that the garden at the side was swathed in warm golden sunlight and green cast iron furniture seemed to invite me to soak the warm sun and the ambience. After spending more than an hour soaking in the sun and the ambience, we were served some lemon tea and some cookies by the chatty, warm and friendly Robin....a perfect way to call it an Afternoon!
Our overall experience was good. The rooms were spacious and the staff was extremely courteous and helpful. Even though we faced a few issues there were always ready to help. The place has a really cost feel to it. The fact that it is located on the main Kotagiri road didn’t bother us much; guess our rooms were better placed. In the morning it was really nice to spend some time in the sit outs and enjoy the views and see the mist forming over the hills. Food was okayish. Nothing too fancy and limited options. But that was okay for us considering it is a smaller establishment and not a ‘hotel’. Though do try their chocolate mousse - it is delicious! 2 things that could have been better: 1. The heater we had the first night just didn’t cool the room despite closing all doors and trying to channel all the heat in one room. We had to get it replaced the next day by a bigger one. 2. On the second day there was some issue with getting hot water in the morning.…
I stayed in this incredible place in late October and this review is coming late however there are some wonderful things to share which needs some elaborative inputs. The first thing you notice when you get inside the property is the nature surrounding it. It is right next to the gentle hilly elevation and we saw a Photographer couple patiently waiting to take pictures of the Malabar squirrel and some exquisite birds only seen in that area. Imagine a place right next to the road to ooty yet so rustic. I saw the Squirrel and it was so big and beautiful. Brownish and a hint of black and probably a size of a Rabbit or a Mongoose. Coming back to the place. This place is a beautifully run place and all Kudos to Geeta. She is the nerve center of this place. It will be just a building without her. She runs the show and full marks to Robin, Shiva and the others who make you feel at home immediately after stepping in. One more thing I would like to mention is that unlike other small hotels or Homestays with less than 10 rooms types, here the Toiletries and the Tea coffee refreshments etc are no less than what you would get in Star hotels. They had Darjeeling Muscatel tea leaves served which is quite exquisite and had not seen being offered at most of the places. They also had other Tea leaves which were very well packed and served. The breakfast spread packed a punch. The dosas were phenomenal and then the other things on the menu like Idli, vada, with Omelettes and fresh juice. What stood apart was the personal touch to even small requests whether it was for Breakfast or Lunch or Dinner. We would sit next the Bonfire till 2 am sometimes and would ask for more wood then and would get it immediately. I stayed in the suite next to the main building and it is a beautifully done room with 2 rooms and a big bathroom. Overall, this is the place to go if you want to just relax and enjoy the natural beauty and soak in and breathe in the freshest air nature has to offer with unlimited quantity of tea. The outdoor seating area is equally good to sit and get your daily dose of Vitamin D. And ofcourse when in doubt ask Geeta anything and she will help you with it. My only comment or suggestion would be to add some fresh set of books covering all ages i.e. for Kids or Adults and also get some badminton rackets, Carrom board , chess etc available to keep people engaged and the Bicycles for some beautiful rides across the mountain roads. Look no further and go ahead and book this place to enjoy nature with good food with the team looking to make it even more pleasant and worthwhile for you.…
Best Holiday Rental in my whole trip. Extremely comfortable bed, spacious and well lit. We stayed in main building. The are cottage other rooms which we didn't see. V good food, pre order is must. And must try what they recommend. Bonfire and calmness is best to experience along with slow pace of the city. Just perfect stay in perfect city.
We had an amazing experience. We were well taken care of and every small details was well attended. Few things i felt could improve was the breakfast buffet, the paintings on the walls and the dine in menu. It felt truly homely our 3 nights there. Thanks Geetha, Robin and everyone else.
Fell in love with the colonial beauty of this bungalow. The staff - Geetha, Lawrence and Robinson were more of family than staff. Accommodative of all our needs. When a place feels like home more than a hotel you know there is something right. Returning soon. Thank you for the wonderful stay.
They say you remember a property not because of its charm, but because of its caretakers. That is so true with this place. Shiva and Vineet took real good care of us with our constant needs in the food department. A variety of cuisines were ordered, they all delivered! Sheela with the housekeeping team was very sweet and courteous and always with a smile. It'd be a remiss if I didn't mention team lead Geetha, who orchestrated all of this. Many thanks! The property has a very rustic feel to it. The side yard is a great place to sit in the sun and read a book. Rooms were clean and the property in general well kept. The location was very convenient to get around too! Definitely will come back again!
