During our travels to India we booked 5 nights at the Hotel Sarovar in Udaipur so we could explore the city and area around the lakes. After spending time in other hotels in India, Hotel Sarovar is a below average 4* hotel. Being on Lake Pichola is the only positive thing about the hotel.
Our lake facing room was $95 USD a night and was quite large, offering a double bed and a sitting area by the windows on the lake. The bed and bath linens are old, discolored and ripped. The bed does not look inviting at all. The bathroom is quite small but large enough to shower and clean up. When we checked in our bathroom floor was black with dirt and dust and hair. Unacceptable presentation for any hotel. After my first shower, I covered a towel with soap and scrubbed the floor leaving the floor much cleaner than it was. The second day of our stay, the hot water stopped working leaving us without hot water for the entire day. The hotel will change your towels and make the bed if you leave your key at the front desk before heading out for the day.
We purchased breakfast with our room to avoid having to search out a breakfast location each morning, only to find a great coffee shop next door after we arrived. The breakfast is served on the rooftop without cover so it can be chilly during the winter months. The entire eating area and buffet has an old, not taken care of, feel to it. Coffee is instant in spite of a large Cappuccino machine in the lobby. The buffet includes bread for toast, fresh watermelon and papaya, along with 3-4 hot dishes all being Indian. Most other restaurants at the other hotels offered pastry and roasted potatoes as a non Indian option, not this place and no yogurt.
The location is not bad, being close to the bridges that cross the lake and take you to the area around the City Palace.
Overall, the Hotel Sarovar has the feeling of an inexpensive hostel, not very well taken care of and not worth the cost.

Dear Jamie, Thank you for choosing your stay with us & for posting your genuine feedback. We are extremely apologetic for all inconvenience caused to you during your stay with us. For your concerns regarding room amenities & toiletries, we would like to let you know that sometimes things can go wrong. We could have resolved your issues if you would have informed us to do so. The water system issue was very unfortunate to read. We have a Lake facing rooftop resturant half covered & half opened as people love to seat at the edge of the restaurant. Since our hotel is newly renovated in September 2019, I doubt about the old interior or exterior. For breakfast buffet, being a small boutique property we serve this much dishes of verieties only. We greatly appreciate your kind comments of our location. It was our pleasure to serve you as a guest. Regards, Hotel Sarovar

WE chose this hotel based on its location facing Lake Pichola. It was an adventure just getting to the hotel, through narrow streets, crowded with motorcycles. Upon arriving at this "boutique' hotel, we kindly greeted by the staff and shown to our room. On first impression, it was large, the view was beautiful from the little sitting area arranged by the window. The bed was large and fairly comfortable, the linens at bit worn.
The bathroom was small, but typical of Indian bathrooms.
Upon closer inspection we noticed things the were not typically "boutique". After taking a shower, the towel we used on the floor to soak up all the water was black. Evidently, the floor had not been cleaned for some time. There were also dark hairs all over the floor. The towels were shabby and worn. The typical shower amenities inside the shower were obviously used, as the labels were worn.
In the sitting area, we noticed the air conditioner on the outside wall was scotch-taped to seal the draft. The chairs could have used a shampoo.
The free breakfast was served on the roof, (to which there is no elevator) was partly open, to enjoy the view of the lake. On stepping up to the buffet table we noticed that the small electric toaster was just dirty. It obviously hadn't been wiped down for some time, a long time. The offerings were slim, some fresh fruit, cold cereals, toast, if your dared use the toaster, and several hot dishes, all Indian food. Spare at best. The coffee was instant, perhaps that's typical in a boutique hotel? Considering there was a large cappuccino machine on the first floor that sat unused for the 5 days we were there - mabye it was not working?? The table tops were in need of a good scrubbing, as was the floor. The cleanliness factor in this hotel was way below standard.
Overall, the staff were very friendly and helpful. Being in the middle of an unusually cold Indian winter, we were provided with a space heater, upon request.
I would not necessarily say this was a boutique hotel. It was sorely in need of some TLC, even though there was a claim that it had recently been renovated. For $94/night, we expected a little more.

Although our Rooms were upgraded from deluxe lake view and the rooms were big and comfortable, however their breakfast / serving staff were pathetic, only 3-4 option in breakfast when the occupancy is full and if you ask for something they are pick up yourself
Lets talk about view only the lake view rooms are worth staying otherwise you will be wasting you money staying there
Rooms ,we stood in both types of rooms deluxe and lake view so beds were almost the same in both of them , however layout of lakeview room is just amazing and all basic amenities are available , toilets were clean .
Food , if you are food or even if you are not food this place is not for you , as breakfast as i told was pathetic even if you order something in room for yourself the taste is not that good , although they have huge chicken but they need to upgrade their food quality.
Service , se checked-in early as per the train timings they gave us rooms aswel little before the check-in time but overall the time we were in the hotel was to eat breakfast and persons serving were very very bad in service.
Thanks

The hotel was excellent and the best feature are the lake facing rooms from where you can hear bells of temples in the morning pooja. The ducks and boats passes directly from below which was amazing for me as I visited with my 2 years old son. The staff was very helpful as I was travelling with an infant and they really helped me with some necessary items for my son also.
The hotel is not accessible with any 4 wheeler and you can rent a bike/scooty or tempo who charges 150/- for per spot visit and we can combine 3-4 spots for one day and get bets combo.
We used to travel by foot from hotel and cross chandpole bridge (5 mins walk) and get a tempo this cuts the traveling time and charge by half.
For eating the restaurant on top floor has a magestic view (best at evening).

Nice hotel with spacious rooms with awesome view of Lake Pichola from the lake facing room and rooftop restaurant. Staff is very polite and cooperative. They treat you like their family and humble. The USP of this Hotel is their rooftop area which is superbly furnished and one can have a decent candle light dining experience there with stunning lake view and good music. They also allow you to play your own favorite songs.
These are all the smart features of this Hotel :
Romantic atmosphere
Large suites
Good room service
Spacious rooms
Great hotel bar
Quiet rooms
Thoughtful amenities
Helpful concierge
Historic building
Family-friendly
Walking distance from Lake Pichola
Improvement needed : The location of this Hotel is in the tough streets and it is difficult for cabs to reach there. Uber and Ola have their own policies and they can leave you near Amba Mata Temple which is about 1 km from the hotel. Post that area, they are not allowed to enter. I wish the hotel should start an E-Rickshaw or Auto service to pick up their guest from Amba Mata temple area. (Hotel Lake Pichola is already doing that)

Dear AnuyaCS, Whenever I reply to reviews, I usually I thank my guests for their business and despite our best efforts, if the guest has experienced any inconvenience then I apologise for it and make an effort to ensure it doesn't happen again and with anyone else. In your case, my dear, that is not possible for me to do because your review is false, vindictive and personal. You have lied about the breakfast and you have lied about my team member's behaviour. As for personal hygiene of my staff, I wonder that when you can't even spell it right why would you stoop so low so as to make such personal remarks against people. But then that's the "I'll teach them a lesson" person that you are. Nonetheless, I hope and pray you find your zen in this life and it helps you being a little less vengeful.

Hotel Sarovar on Pichola is a hidden delight with extra courteous staff who run the show there, it's a property on Lake Pichola shore a stone throw away from all major location like City Place, Jagdish Templae and Ghats. It is very convenient for all age groups of traveller's. Situated very close to the old markets gives ladies a lot of shopping options. Lots of old world food available. I would happily give it 10 stars, the rooms are comfortable, piped hot water is available 24/7. The hotel has rooftop restaurant which gives good scenic view of lake and City Palce. It is the most convenient and among the best properties in lake picholoa area. My family was absolutely delighted to be staying there. Hotel Sarovar on Pichola is a good place to be in.

Please advice me : Since normally we drive to a destination but prefer to roam with local vehicles - our vehicle needs a space from Checkin-till Checkout. Is there a proper parking facility for our self driven vehicle at this hotel ? Is that safe ? Is that like I need to park on the road infront ?
We can have your vehicle parked at our other property that is about a kilometer away from Sarovar and has a safe & secure parking.
