So, there are hotels designed to give a feel of heritage property. And then, there are hotels that are actually ancestral homes. Homes that are more than 250 years old.
From the architecture to the vibe and basic yet sufficient amenities, these ancestral homes lure you with their old-world charm. After staying at a few places with the look and feel of a heritage property, I longed for a stay in an actual heritage property. But then, it’s not easy to come across one. Even if you come across one, it’s not easy to ascertain the ‘authenticity of the claimed heritage’.
Kankarwa Haveli puts all these doubts to rest. Located right on the edge of the Lake Pichola, just a couple of buildings away from the City Palace, this Haveli gives you an unhindered and unforgettable view of the lake Pichola.
So, what makes this property special? Especially, in a city like Udaipur, where there are properties at almost every step. To start with, the place has an unmatched vibe. There’s so much of positivity in the property that you feel it, from the moment you step in. The rooms aren’t identical, like it’s the case in most of the contemporary properties. And together, it gives you the feeling of staying in a well-maintained ancestral property with all the basic amenities. Secondly, the view of the lake from most of the rooms and an unmatched view from the rooftop restaurant, makes the property a sure addition to your consideration set. Third, there is an amazing feeling of peace within the property. Whether you decide to stay in your room or just sit in the restaurant gazing at the majestic Lake Pichola and the lights and colours of the properties around it, you’ll feel the peace. In addition to these bits, the owner Divyarishi with his warm and welcoming smile will go the extra mile to make your stay as comfortable as it gets. Patient, efficient and eager to help you, he will keep you hooked with the stories of the property and will also do the needful to make your stay memorable.
So, are you still looking for more reasons? The furniture, the architecture of the rooms and the windows present you with an experience that lets you do a bit of time travel. Once inside the room, there’s this feeling of travelling back in time. Amazing, right?
In a nutshell, if you are also a fan of heritage properties, this one is a ‘must-consider’ option. No wonder, many argue with conviction that this figures amongst the best and highly recommended heritage properties in the city.
Check it out, for a true Udaipur experience.

The haveli is beautiful no doubt about it. Rooms and bathrooms are also spacious and beautiful. Location is amazing as it is located in the happening part of the city and one gets amazing views from the rooftop restaurant. However, there is no phone in the room. So it happened that while taking bath, there was no hot water. Now, in absence of a phone connecting the reception one cannot do anything but to take bath in cold water. Further, the dinner prices are high. We did not check tariff before we booked dinner. Later, while footing the bill we felt that it was exorbitant for the food we ate. We could have had better food at the same price outside. So Please check tariff before booking food.

Kankarva Haveli is a place where you can feel the real and an authentic aroma of Udaipur. It lies in the old city of the town which is really the best part..We were provided with a beautiful lakeside view room. The quintessential element which is *Food* was served with due love and happiness by the chef Sunder Singh who added his flavours of magic to the dishes served by his companion *Satvir* *Singh* with great affection and love..**Divyarishi** and *Rudrarangda* the owners, both are really helpful and careful for their guests, they take care of the little things from the accommodation to the serving quality of food. We are thankful to them for booking a table for dinner at *Amrai* restaurant .
In all, this is a place to be kept in the rim of the bucket list for sure and Highly recommended...!!

The hotel is located in the old part of town; City palace, Jagdish temple etc are within walking distance; Nice view of the lake if you book Penthouse and clean food are the only things going for this place; You will certainly find better value. Watch your step -The owners are sweet talkers and will take you for a ride if you are not careful. Of the 2 penthouse suites we ended up paying for, 1 was half the size, had a partial lake view and not a suite at all; The explanation was that no two rooms are alike in Havelis. Note-the website does not mention size of the room or what they are equipped with.
This hotel is run on a shoe string budget even though they charge you a pretty steep rate. The room comes with a bed and blanket that is all. Don't even expect a Kettle to make tea or a safe to keep your valuables or an extra socket to charge your phone ( Website does mention no TV, phone and elevators). The bathrooms are shoddy; Shower does not have an enclosure and water will spill on pretty much everything in the bathroom. They don't provide room service nor do you have an extra towel to clean up the mess.
If you are not in good shape do not even think about staying here. The steps are steep and uneven, you can easily trip. No room service implies that if you want drinking water, you will have to climb 3 stories to the kitchen
which is not open all the time.

It's on laal Ghat at Lake pichola
Rishi is a great host who made us feel like home , we were lucky to get lake view 1st floor delux room , quiet spacious and it could accomodate even 4 guest . We were there for a day but I still wish we could have stayed more . We took lunch on terrace a good home cooked food we had egg curry and cheese paratha.

Every thing was picture perfect and cleanliness was one thing which was mesmerising . This is 250 year old haweli and sitting on window could give entire view of lake .

Keep doing good team , loved your stay .god bless you

We stayed here over Holi and the hotel put on a very good party ( lots of dye and a band and snacks). I think it may have been for a tour party, but as independent travellers we joined in and no-one objected.
Our room on the front had the most lovely view over the Lake Pichola and the room was spacious and clean.
There was a restaurant area on the roof which had the most fantastic view, but was sadly underused. We had a very basic breakfast there but no dinner was served ( though there was a good restarant nearby). We had a drink up there each evening but the seating was pretty basic and no nuts or snacks were served. This is an opportunity that could be really worked up as it is such a lovely view in the evening.
Staff were friendly and helpful.

My main point in looking for a home stay in Udaipur was that it should be in the old city and Kankarwa havlei was that and much more. The room we were allotted was facing lake Pichola and was very aesthetically done.
Not just the room but the haveli itself was tastefully done and gave a very warm feeling.
Divyarishi the owner made us feel very much at home and assisted in planning our stay, and arranging for a local guide sand transport.
The Haveli is superbly located and walking distance to the city palace.
Lots of eateries to choose from around the Haveli in case one want to but to me the food was actually one of the major selling points - was homemade and absolutely delicious
( though we did have a few meals in the city ) our dinners were mostly at the Haveli
Sitting on their terrace enjoying a glass of wine at sunset or enjoying breakfast in the mornings both times over.poking the serene lake Pichola - we couldn’t have asked for more.

We were booked into this dreadful hotel for three nights. After two, we couldn’t stand it any longer, so booked out. The shower didn’t work, there was not only little pressure, there was done at all. The air con didn’t work and the electric power points in our room didn’t work. Our so called lake view was a huge dome outside our window. The plus side was we had a terrace, where we could sit and enjoy the lake. No safe in room

Divyarishi was the most
incredible host ever! We were there for a photoshoot + plans changed at the last minute with the photoshoot team arriving early. He didn’t blink an eye + accommodated them all, finding 3 extra rooms within a few minutes.
His hospitality skills are exceptional.
The property is a stunning heritage hotel with details that’ll melt your heart.
The rooms are
right on the lake with phenomenal views over the entire city including the famous Taj Lake Palace Hotel.
My room 206 I felt was the best room in Udaipur. It had a little Indian sit out beneath the windows with a daybed to watch the world go by, especially gorgeous at sunset.
It allows you to feel
connected to Udaipur even when you’re in your room, as there’s alot of activity on the ghat below, which is fascinating to see.
Rooftop restaurant
provides incredible views + is a spectacular vantage point.
Breakfast is included.
The service from all the staff
was truly divine + we loved our stay.
Cannot wait to return!
There are alot of steps with no elevator,
so it’s not ideal for elderly or those with issues getting up the steps… in that case, choose a ground floor room which are also very beautiful right on the lake.
The proximity to everything you could want is literally right at your door -
tuk tuk drivers who know this city like the back of their hand.
Next door to Jagat Niwas Hotel + so many other amazing places. This area truly is the heart of old town Udaipur + you wouldn’t want to be based anywhere else on your Udaipur visit.
Kankarwa gets booked out October - March so book well in advance if you’re going in peak season!

We stayed 4 nights in this Haveli overlooking the lake, in the ‘centre’ of Udaipur. Great for restaurant options. We chose a semi-lake view room (obviously cheaper than full view) and it was very pretty and clean.

The rooftop terrace was amazing - where breakfast was served - and available to guests at all times and a fabulous place to watch the sunset and have a drink.

Staff were helpful and friendly. We had laundry done, a prompt turnaround at the lower end of hotel prices.

My only reservation is that the room got slightly chilly at night (but blankets provided).

Would recommend it and would stay again.
