The Amet Haveli was built during the rule of Maharana Jagat Singh Ji –2nd of Udaipur between 1734-1752 A.D. This almost 300 year old haveli was used by successive Maharanas as a leisure palace for their evenings. The haveli was later awarded to Dodiya Sardar Singhji and came to be known as Dodiya ki Haveli. It was then granted to Rawat Pratap Singh Ji of Amet, Son of Fateh Singh Ji around 1783 A.D by Maharana Bheem Singhji of Mewar. Amet haveli also has a beautiful Badi Mahal or garden palace. The architect who led the construction of the Udaipur Lake Palace was the pioneer and architect of the Badi Mahal built within the Lake Palace, City Palace and the Amet Haveli. Currently these are the only three palaces which boast of a beautiful Badi Mahal.

Amet Haveli captivates many guests with its traditional charm, regal elegance, and serene atmosphere, complemented by the hotel's heritage-inspired decor. The prime location is a highlight, offering easy access to the city and breathtaking lake views, although accessibility concerns are mentioned. While the cleanliness of the rooms and facilities consistently receives high marks, opinions on the value are divided, with some guests finding the service and comfort lacking. The in-house restaurant Ambrai is popular, but service can be hit-or-miss.

My wife and I have just returned from a trip to Rajasthan and thoroughly enjoyed our first stop at Amet Haveli. The hotel is traditional and beautifully designed. We had a room (luxury Lakeview suite) - at water level - so the views across the Palace etc were stunning. The room had recently been refurbished and featured a beautiful frescoed bathroom and two picturesque window seats from which we could relax and enjoy life on, and across, the lake.

The location of the hotel is amazing. We visited other options in this category and were really happy we'd booked. From the restaurant, you have arguably the best and closest view of the Lake Palace, across the water to the City Palace and Museum, and then to the side the working Ambrai Ghat which provided a fascinating taste of life, to watch the world go by.

Before going, we'd read in other reviews that the location was hampered by it being down a narrow lane but don't understand those comments. We really enjoyed being on the other side of the lake - away from hustle and bustle - but only 15mins pleasant walk to the centre (note the footbridge to cross the lake), or just 150-200 rupees for a tuk tuk to get anywhere in the town. The hotel taxis also easily navigate the road, so it's really not a problem!

The restaurant staff were particularly great and friendly, the food and cocktails excellent, and good value and, again, a view that made it hard to leave!

Whilst in Udaipur, we particularly enjoyed the City Palace, Bagore Ki Haveli museum (and nightly dance show), but didn't rate Jagmandir Palace (on the lake) - the boat trip to get there was nice - and great views of the hotel in fact, but there's nothing on the island other than massively overpriced food and drinks.

We used the hotel's pool area at the end of each day, which is beautiful and a welcome relief to cool down (and, again, the pool was not green per other reviews we'd seen!)

Our only item of feedback was that the bed mattress was particularly hard (and high!), but am sure that can be easily rectified!

Overall, Udaipur is a must-see in Rajasthan in our view - a unique feel due to the lake - and Amet Haveli would certainly be our base if we stayed again. Mainly due to the laid back, calm and sophisticated feel, and amazing position and views.

If you like your hotels to have dodgy wiring, dodgy plumbing, unexpected steps everywhere and ongoing refurbishment work then you'll love this place! You'll also love it because of the architectural heritage, the superb location on Lake Pichola and the great restaurant.

We stayed for 3 nights and were lucky enough to have room 118 which is a corner room upstairs with a large terrace and knockout views across the lake towards the City Palace and the Taj Lake Palace hotel. The room was large with a comfortable bed, plenty of sitting areas, a tiny safe and very dodgy wiring and plumbing. In keeping with the heritage nature of the property there were archways everywhere and doors were heavy wooden decorated doors with large brass bolts and door furniture.

The Ambrai restaurant was a very romantic setting with a wide choice of menu at very reasonable prices and staff that were eager to please (except perhaps the maitre d' who was brusque and unfriendly). Breakfast in the morning was perfectly adequate without being sumptuous.

Outside was a small and fairly cold swimming pool with a number of sunbeds and that fabulous architecture just staring at you from every angle.

Being in the heart of the old town there are plenty of interesting sites within easy walking distance as long as you don't get waylayed by one of the local shopkeepers! The location also means you have to leave your car at the City gates and ride the last mile by tuk-tuk (or walk).

We loved it here but understand why others may not like it quite so much so each to their own I guess. A more "Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" experience you couldn't hope to find, warts and all!

The Amet Haveli is a truly special hotel in a truly special location, built on a small area of land that projects into Lake Pichola. The views from its charming lakeside restaurant are exceptional: looking east to the City Palace and buildings of the old city; south to the majestic Taj Lake Palace Hotel and the atmospheric Ambrai ghat. The food here is also very good - and well-priced for such a up-market hotel.

It is a beautiful heritage building, with the charm of classic C18 architecture and the convenience and style of a well-maintained and loved C21 hotel. The rooms are spotless and beautifully furnished and decorated. The staff are courteous and thoughtful; Alvin was an exemplary manager, checking to see we were well looked after; Nitin in the restaurant ensured that our breakfast and dinner services were smooth and efficient. Both were part of a professional team that make a stay at this hotel so memorable.

A special mention for the excellent hotel boat trip; a sunset voyage around the lake also ensured that our time in Udaipur, staying at the Amet Haveli, holds a very special place in our hearts of our time in Rajasthan.

I recently stayed at Amet Haveli for the fourth time and I hope not the last. Visitors to Udaipur often choose to stay at the Oberoi for luxury or at the Shiv Niwas for the palatial history, and they will certainly get what they are looking for at each of those excellent establishments. But Amet Haveli has more charm than all of the other hotels in Udaipur put together. We always choose to stay there and if it is fully booked, we simply postpone visiting Udaipur until they have rooms. Several things make Amet haveli very special: First, the location is completely unbeatable. Directly on the lake, you can almost touch the water from the lower floor rooms and from the upper floor you feel as if you are floating on a boat. Secondly, it has the best view in Udaipur, hands down, gazing on the City Palace to the left and the magical Lake Palace directly ahead. Watching how the light changes on these two palaces throughout the day and into the evening, with the reflections on the water, is simply magical. Thirdly, the hotel terrace and restaurant directly overlook the Hanuman Ghat with its never ending scene of visitors and pilgrims. Thirdly, the hotel has an excellent kitchen and the food at the open air Ambrai restaurant is reliably very good indeed, with very friendly service. The rooms are tastefully furnished with simple antique-style furnishings. Last but not least, Amet Haveli is very well managed with prompt housekeeping; at the Reception Mr Arif in particular is a wealth of information as well as a very hands-on person. It is always a relief to find him at his desk when one arrives. I have just returned from Amet Haveli and am already looking forward to our next visit. I know the friends I was with are already planning theirs.

We enjoyed a very clean, comfortable corner suite room with a balcony affording a wonderful lake view. Breakfasts were good with excellent dosas made to order. The restaurant was very popular for evening meals so if you wanted a lakeside table you had to agree to spend 4000 rupees… There was always an abundance of friendly and helpful staff .. often too many hovering. The hotel is ideally situated for walking to the city palaces easily. Our car was not allowed to drop us off at the hotel so a tuk tuk ride was needed to transport us from the drop off point. An experience in itself!! The tranquil setting of the hotel pool is a bonus although beware of mosquitos !
A beautiful hotel to enjoy Udaipur.

We are about to leave after a two night stay. We are generally happy yet agree this hotel is not of the same standard as others we have stayed in over the past two week holiday in Rajasthan.
Staff are all very good and keen to assist ( for a tip). The room is generally clean but for the collection of past guests hairs in the Velcro of the bed duvet🤮

Unlike every other hotel we have used on this trip in this one the mini bar in the room is empty, drinking water mostly in recycled jars, no bath robes or face cloths.

The bed is comfortable and we have superb views over the lake, very impressive at night with all the lights opposite.

Restaurant evening meals are good and reasonably priced. Breakfast is lacking in several ways, only instant coffee for instance.

This hotel has an excellent location on the side of the lake but within easy walking distance to everything in the old city. The restaurant provides superb food. The rooms are a little tired with a rock hard mattress that would probably win the award for the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in. Aside from that, we very much enjoyed our visit. The staff were friendly, and everything very clean.

A really fabulous place to stay - location outstanding with great views and easy access into the heart of the old city; restaurant a genuine pleasure with a varied menu and a very skilful chef; room fabulous; staff warm and friendly and willing to do anything to make your stay better. We stayed 2 weeks and got to know the area and people quite well and were impressed with Amet Haveli from the moment we met the Reception staff (excellent people with positive attitudes, very helpful) throught to the cleanliness (excellent) and the restaurant (marvellous). Thanks to the staff and location and quality of this place we had one of our best holidays ever. Thank you.

We had two nights recently at Amet Haveli and very much enjoyed our stay. We had the good fortune to be upgraded to a lake view suite and the view was mesmerising, especially early morning. Sitting by the lake for breakfast and dinner was delightful and the food was good and reasonably priced although breakfast was a bit ordinary.

The hotel is in the old town and we did our tours on foot, although there’s always a tuk-tuk around when you’re feeling weary.

The room was very clean and charmingly furnished with firm beds. Not much wardrobe storage. The only drawback was a pretty constant smell of drains in the bathroom, but the huge and powerful shower was a bonus. Of more concern to us was the very poor internet connection, almost non-existent in our room. Luckily our agent ( If Only - highly recommended) had given us a small mobile internet device and linked it to our phones, so we could manage.

I would certainly stay here again.

Thank you to all the very sweet and kind staff for an incredible stay in this remarkable heritage haveli in Udaipur. Our room with windows opening onto the lake was like a dream, and the lakefront restaurant under the trees is in the most beautiful ambient location imaginable, with sublime 270 degree views of Lake Palace, City Palace and the peaceful waters of Lake Pichola.
The most heartfelt thanks to the waiters and restaurant staff for incredible food, efficient and kind service and wonderful mementoes. Thank you to waiter Ghan Shyam for ensuring safe food selection for my allergies, for his attentiveness and dedication we ate here every night, and to all the staff for their kindness also.

General Manager, Bhupendra Singh, is to be commended for an excellent team. This kind of good will and attention to guest happiness comes from exceptional team building. Every member of the team from groundspeople to administration were the sweetest most efficient people selectable.

The location, grounds, rooms, restaurant, ambience, views, food, breakfasts, drinks, service, cleanliness and safety were all absolutely top class. We will be staying here many more times in years to come. Best hotel in all of India so far.

We loved every every aspect of this magical place. Don’t hesitate to stay here 🙏

Use the mailatamethaveli address Arif was a great help during our holiday. He's quite a reserved man but he is so helpful. He quietly gets on with it. A lovely guy. I hope you have a great time there. We spent Christmas and New Year there and we can't wait to go back. A very special place and probably the best location on the lake and close to the city centre where you can safely walk (as long as you allow the mopeds to dodge you). Say hi to Arif and Dev from me and Heather.
