We ate at the Upre restaurant, which was a big mistake and both my wife and I ended up with food poisoning. I had sent my main course back as it was cold when it arrived at the table and even though the replacement appeared to be hot, I still felt it was not as it should have been. The waiter was not helpful and was clearly unhappy when he realised I was not leaving him a tip. 4 hours after eating, the inevitable very unpleasant result. I would avoid this restaurant!

This hotel was a joy to stay in. The place has real character and charm. Our suite overlooked the lake and was very comfortable despite having an old-fashioned feel to it. We didn't have dinner here during our stay, but in hindsight wished we did because the two lunches we had there were excellent. There are a few tables on a terrace just outside the main dining area and you are sitting right on the lake-side with views across to the Old City. It is a great spot. The staff were all fantastic - polite, friendly, helpful and efficient. You can't really ask for more than that.

We were hesitant at first to try this local hotel but when we arrived we were pleasantly happy with the local decor, non assuming nature of the place. Certainly not your 5 stars but for the location, simplicity and views - this is a marvelous hotel. Location is good because one is not in the noisy old part yet not to far away to walk to. The staff were all quite friendly and attentive. The check in was quick & fuss free. We had the room with the balcony which had a beautiful view of the old city over the lake and catches the sunrise rising above the jagdish temple opposite. In the night, the restaurant on the rooftop is absolutely stunning for its views and food. So book in advance. It’s that popular. The hotel also provides a sunset cruise which we took. At this time of

This was our last stop on a three plus week tour of north India. We'd stayed in 5-star hotels everywhere else. That's not how I usually travel! But we were being more conservative in India than we would have been in Europe. In Udaipur we opted for the three-star Lake Pichola, mainly because of TA reviews. There were trade-offs to this choice, but we were pleased with our stay. The first big appeal was lakeview rooms with a terrace at an affordable price! We were here four days and actually sat on our terraces to read and relax. Second plus was the location. Positioned on a spit of land opposite the City Palace, we didn't just have views of the lake but fabulous views of the old city. But the location wasn't just about the views. We were away from the hustle of the old

We brought a group from Western Australia to Lake Pichola Hotel. The process since my first communication until check out went smoothly and easily. Myself and the rest of the group members loved everything about the hotel: The reception was lovely and we made feel welcomed and special, the decor and ambience were great, our room was specious with a stunning view over the lake. Florence of India... The staff were friendly and professional and included several women in positions at reception, kitchen and cleaning jobs. I hope this trend will continue and we will see more women in the hospitality industry in India :-) The hotel also has its own boat and travel service which is convenient. The rooftop restaurant was very good with a wide selection of fine food and drinks (a bit
