We enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel for anyone who wants to experience staying somewhere where you feel like you’ve stepped back in history. The public areas of the hotel are rather lovely - loved the bar and inside of the restaurant which felt like you were in early 1900s, relaxing by the pool admiring the architecture, the indoor sitting area etc. We had a terrace suite (no. 16), which had incredible views over Lake Pichola towards the Lake Palace - wonderful place to enjoy the sunsets from. The room was spacious and clean, the bed was super comfortable, and the shower deceptively powerful. The staff were very friendly and attentive, particularly at breakfast. All the food we ate in the restaurant was very good, and not ridiculously priced. Staying in part of the City Palace was rather special- handy being able to stroll through the outer complex at night to reach the main part of town (you are issued a security pass on check in) and great for accessing the museum in the morning! A couple of small things which stopped me from putting 5 bubbles… The hotel appeared rather quiet with guests on a couple of days and on some occasions we were the only people in the bar or by the pool - on these occasions it sometimes took a long time before a staff member appeared and realised we were waiting to order drinks. Once they realised you were there it wasn’t an issue, they were attentive, but maybe some kind of call bell or quiet alarm when you walk into the bar could help alert the staff that someone’s waiting. The bedroom itself could do with a bit of restoration / touch up work.. we had one electrical socket fall out of the wall as it seemed to just be held in by loose plaster (luckily there were other safer looking sockets to use). The patio furniture on our terraces could do with attention as the white paint was pealing. The rather wonderful historic heavy doored wardrobes have some unfortunate gouges / scratches which could be sorted. The bathroom door needs repainting. The bathroom itself is looking tired - particularly around the bath itself. Finally, please shorten the shower curtain - it’s far too long and gets sucked towards the plug hole when utilising the rather good shower, which prevents the water from draining. We don’t regret staying here - all in all an interesting place to stay! …

A beautiful property but a mediocre overpriced hotel. We were in an Imperial Suite, large with several rooms and paid over Rs 33000/night. The bed looked like a hospital bed, made of metal tubes, the bathroom only had a shower over a bathtub that had mould around the edges, a plastic shower curtain that didnt prevent water spilling all over the marble floors making them a health hazard. There was only an old fashioned wall hung hairdryer and the hotel didnt have any better ones. No bathrobes. No hot water on our first evening and when I called reception I was dismissed by being told that “there is a separate hot water tap Madam” as if I had not already tried it. It took another hour for hot water to commence as indeed there was a boiler issue. Quite honestly this was one of the worst hotels I have every stayed in at that price level. You can definitely find much better options in Udaipur. …
Great hospitality and beverages and atmosphere was exhilarating.. the staff was courteous too. We will be back here for sure. Try the coffee , the cappuccino . If you are lucky you will get to see the live band
