After stopping at what we thought were great hotels, while travelling around Rajasthan, arriving here was a great shock. We only booked a basic room, which was far better than we expected. The hotel is beautifully kept and all the staff are welcoming and helpful, I actually felt a bit sorry for them when saw them serving a few stuck up customers. The staff can't do enough for you. The views from the hotel, its location along with food and drink made this hotel the best we have stopped in in India, and can't imagine anywhere else comparing with it for the price.

Getting there:

I reached Udaipur by an evening flight from Mumbai and booked an Ola cab to go to the hotel. Given that it was after peak hours, the cab could drop me at the Jagdish Temple which is a few mins walk from the hotel. I called the hotel and they were kind enough to send me one of their staff to help me reach the hotel. If you get there during day time, you will be dropped around 2 kms away from where you could take an auto or the hotel also has an auto arrangement.

Property & Stay:

Superb location on the banks of the Lake Pichola. You can't get it better. I had to stay in two different rooms during my 3 night stay here and both rooms were spotless clean, tastefully done and had comfortable beds /mattresses. I had dinner on two occasions at their roof top restaurant, although it was winters, I loved the overall experience. I ate the local Rajasthani cuisine which was good. The breakfasts were pretty good, not a huge spread but just rightly balanced with Indian food and eggs to order, toasts, croissants etc. I enjoyed the live soothing instrumental music and watching the moon set in the mornings from the restaurant. I used to get back for a nap at the hotel in the noons but couldn't do so due to the noise levels of people talking and the cleaning perhaps.

Places to Visit:

The hotel is a walking distance from the Palace, Jagdish Temple, Dharohar Show at the Baghore Ki Haveli, Gangaur Ghat. I spent a lovely evening at the Ghat then walked to the Dharohar Show and had a memorable evening. I rented a car/driver to visit the Ek Lingji Temple and Nathadwara and was back in Udaipur by lunch time. The Dharohar Show is an absolute must do. You can also take a cruise boat from the palace area for Jag Mandir and walk back. Take the sunset cruise if you are a photography buff.

Food nearby : Try the Rainbow restaurant, a minute's walk- pretty decent, reach early for better service . Neelam Restaurant, a very simple home made kind of thali is also not bad to visit after the Dharohar show.

I would love to stay here again.

We stayed for 3 nights in 101 a Jagat Lake View Suite which was very spacious.
The food was excellent we dined in the rooftop restuarant with its amazing views each night. It is chilly in February, they do have heaters but you still need wraps. However the food for breakfast had a poor choice, and incredibly only a 2 slice toaster for all guests to use which meant there was a long wait. Toasters are one of the cheapest things you can buy, so I don't understand .
The waiting staff were all efficient and friendly.
The location of the hotel is perfect to see the sites, but you do get hassled a lot by the vendors outside the hotel.

My girlfriend insisted about staying this hotel.

Here is a very objective coverage of this hotel.

1. Location in terms of the view that this place offers along with the Terrace Restaurant etc is just great!

2. Although the location is great, you cannot get your vehicle anywhere near this hotel as its almost on one of the old bankments of the lake.

3. This is where I see a problem with this hotel. So we paid these guys top dollar for thier Lakeview Rooms, what we expected as a bare minumum was room cleaning when demanded. They didnt touch our room for 2 days after us reminding them for the same daily.

4. The Restaurant Service is not at all satisfactory, They took more than 50 minutes to serve us, on a busy day when they almost 8 waiters doing the rounds most of them were just busy with 1 of the tables where a huge group was seated. This was so clear that they don't care about a smaller table size & don't really pay heed after constant reminders. (It was just so clear that all they care about is money)

They just killed that experience & we really felt bad at that point. They did manage to offer us some discount on the F&B bills, but then what good is that??

Guests happily pay for your rooms and F&B till the point they see value in it. But it shouldn't be a half-hearted effort, If you are trying to place yourself as a Palace, Luxury product then please have the required services and staff to back that up

In essence, I don't see this hotel doing great justice to the kind of money they demand!

We shifted to another hotel the very next day.

This hotel rates as one of the best we stayed during a two-week tour of Rajasthan. It is in a superb location overlooking the lake with great views to water and mountains and right in the middle of beautiful Udaipur. The complex is superbly designed in a historic old building and well decorated. Our rooms were spacious, with a separate dressing area off the large bathroom. The courtyards around the hotel are abundant with stairs leading to a pool area as well as upstairs bar site and gorgeous restaurant overlooking the water – great at sunset and in the night air. The rooms are excellent with comfortable beds and reliable and fast Wi-Fi. The restaurant on the roof ( the Rainbow) offered very good Indian dining and service was good. The staff are very helpful, we would love to return to this city and stay again at the Jagat Niwas Palace.

You couldn’t really ask for a nicer spot. The communal areas are beautifully maintained and the guest rooms comfortable and well appointed but the truth is, you could spend half the amount of money and get better service. The reception is great but from then onwards, we felt like an inconvenience. We waited 20 mins to be served drinks one of which was then unopened, there was no assistance with breakfast, the table hadn’t been cleaned, we weren’t offered tea and coffee etc etc. India is a country which has the best customer service in the world but you won’t experience it in this hotel! The views are the best and the location is great but that’s where it ends. I don’t mean to sound like a snob but this is an expensive hotel and it’s not worth what it costs.

Stayed for 2 nights on our holiday tour to India and felt very privileged to stay in this beautiful hotel. Just the entrance is enchanting and the decor, inside and out, is very impressive and very indian.
The views over the lake are wonderful but the open plan aspect including no glass in some windows made it a chilly breakfast experience. And the roof terrace is a fantastic place to spend some time watching the boats, the birds, the changing light on the water and the buildings of Udaipur. We even saw a fruit bat one evening!
Breakfast is a good selection of indian and western, buffet style and the staff will always do you an omelette or fresh coffee if you ask.
Location is great - a short walk to the lake, the temple and city palace and restaurants and shops in the town.
Because of the age and style of the building and open plan nature of the layout it might be worth taking earplugs to cover noise of early risers or the restaurant clatter if you a light sleeper.
We enjoyed it very much.

This hotel has a great position with views right across Lake Pichola. Our room had a great lake view (and was described as Jagat Suite) The room was reasonably sized with marbled features. The bed was well sized. The marbled bathroom looked a little tired, but had full facilities. The walk-in shower had a good shower - it was fed from a dedicated tank that needed 10 / 15 minutes to re-generate sufficient hot water. The room suffered from a little noise in the evening (and early morning) when tables and chairs in the rooftop restaurant (immediately above) were being moved.
The restaurant was on two level (one fully outdoors with superb views) and the meal options were fine. Service was attentive and efficient. There was a central inner courtyard, in which in early evening local Rajasthan entertainment was provided.
The property is situated in old Udaipur and walking the local streets is entirely feasible.

Never before and nowhere else in the world have I experienced such a romantic setting (consider that I have been to Venice, Beaunos Aries, and more). The interior of the rooms is unique and beautiful, intricate without being over the top. The hotel looks onto Lake Picholi which is a sight to behold. We spent a lot of time just sipping gin and tonic on our window sill watching the sun sink over the lake. We were recieved with typical 5 star Indian hospitality. I will treasure this dream hotel in my memory forever and if we ever return to Udaipur, I will book nowhere else.

I was tempted to give it a 4 star, as the rooms are spotless but outside the rooms in the retsuraunt and the surrounding chairs etc. Could be a bit more clean, however we loved our room and hospitality so much I gave it a 5 star anyway.

We discovered the scenic restaurant on the Lonely Planet and we falled in love with the position on the lake coast and the dreaming white architecture of the hotel. We returned to this restaurant twice during our trip.
The restaurant is strategically located on the open rooftop and one floor down with bow windows overlooking the lake.
The have flame heaters on the rooftop, even if it was still cold dining outside. They could improve distributing blanked to the freezing clients.

Food is very good and service has been efficient even for New Year’s eve.
Great place and impressive ambiance!

No I don't think so .The hotel is inside the old part of the city and vehicle access is very restricted. Our driver parked a few km,s away and we were taken to the hotel by tuktuk.

The hotel is at the end of a very narrow street and then down a short walkway, hence its very quiet and lovely location overlooking Lake Pichola. The taxi from the airport, pre-arranged with the hotel, came within a few yards of the hotel entrance and staff will assist with luggage. Likewise, I imagine, if taking a tuk-tuk.

We stayed in November 2018. Our lakeside room was excellent with divan window seat, two double beds, huge bathroom, and a small fountain. I know we had a top level room but I would expect others to be to a very high standard. One or two had a small terrace outside their door. There are several levels to this hotel.
