The Jagat Niwas Palace Hotel captivates guests with its heritage charm, boasting rooms that offer stunning views, though a few guests have pointed out issues with noise and size. While the level of service receives mixed reviews, with commendations for the staff's friendliness and critiques of occasional sluggishness, the hotel's cleanliness is consistently celebrated.
Nestled in a prime central location, the establishment delights many with its stylish atmosphere and scenic lake vistas. However, opinions on value and amenities like the rooftop restaurant and pool vary, with some guests unimpressed by the limited sun loungers and Wi-Fi connectivity.

This traditional haveli is located in a perfect location for visiting many of the key sights as well as being right in the middle of the shopping & restaurant districts. The haveli is right on the lakeside & it is definitely worth paying a little extra for a lake view room. The hotel is beautifully decorated giving a real sense of Rajasthani opulence. The restaurant and rooftop bar/restaurant offer the most spectacular views across the lake, especially at sunset. We found all the staff to be friendly and attentive. Special mention to Dinesh who was a superb maître d’. I have read some negative comments regarding the breakfast in the hotel which, whilst not as extensive as a very large, international chain hotel, was certainly varied enough - cereals, fruit, pastries, pancakes, eggs etc as well as local dishes. If you are after a generic, international hotel where you could be anywhere in the world then this is not for you. This is 100% India and for that reason we absolutely loved it & would highly recommend it.

This hotel has a great position with views right across Lake Pichola. Our room had a great lake view (and was described as Jagat Suite) The room was reasonably sized with marbled features. The bed was well sized. The marbled bathroom looked a little tired, but had full facilities. The walk-in shower had a good shower - it was fed from a dedicated tank that needed 10 / 15 minutes to re-generate sufficient hot water. The room suffered from a little noise in the evening (and early morning) when tables and chairs in the rooftop restaurant (immediately above) were being moved. The restaurant was on two level (one fully outdoors with superb views) and the meal options were fine. Service was attentive and efficient. There was a central inner courtyard, in which in early evening local Rajasthan entertainment was provided. The property is situated in old Udaipur and walking the local streets is entirely feasible.

We loved this hotel. It is a lakefront property but on the mainland (not an island) and close to the old palace. It was a lovely place at a great price. It's in old style with courtyards and nooks everywhere - even a small "library" area. Most of the hotel has lake views. The rooftop area has a small pool (could have been cleaner - always had bugs on the top of the water). This area also has great views and we ate there one night which was by candle light and a panorama of the city and lake. Staff were very friendly and always helpful. There's a tour shop/money exchange in front of the hotel which we used. We ate breakfast and lunch at the restaurant and it was all good. WiFi did not work in our room but after discussing with reception we were given a hot spot modem for our room and then the WiFi was perfect. We were not leaving until 9pm on our last day and the hotel allowed us to use the room and all facilities until we left for a small charge (it was low season so likely not very busy). Get a lakeview room otherwise why stay there?

As many others have stated, the building itself is beautiful and situated right on the lake with gorgeous views. Go for a drink perhaps. I would certainly not stay there again though. It’s not a well run hotel, certainly not luxury, the food was average (skip the breakfast, if you eat dinner go to the very top terrace). They could not accommodate gluten free despite both my travel agent and me checking in advance of the trip. Our room #1 was small but beautiful, overlooking the lake, but the noise from the music performance in the “lobby” just outside the door didn’t stop until 10pm, as did the loud thumping vibrating music from across the water on the weekend. It’s at the end of a long narrow road in old town. We got to town at 8pm and transferred from a car to a tuk tuk that careened down the dark winding roads at breakneck speed - it was amazing no one was hit- really a wild ride. Warning— this is not the hotel if stairs are a problem or someone is unsteady on their feet. Even the room had several levels of stairs and marble thresholds - it is an accident waiting to happen. I would suggest not staying in the old town.

We did a 3-week trip of North and South India 24th Jan to 16th Feb and stayed in numerous hotels, this hotel was perhaps the most professional. The location was central to Udaipur. The hotel was well-staffed, and people were always on hand to help. The hotel room was on the ground floor, giving access to a shared courtyard. We loved sitting in the small library section on comfortable mattresses which extended into an alcove. The room was clean and the hotel was in exceptionally good condition. When not walking around the area we enjoyed sitting on the sun loungers on the balcony area (although we could only find two loungers for the whole hotel). On the first night we went to a nearby restaurant 'Charcoal' which was very good. Our stay at the hotel was marred following a meal on the second night at the hotel restaurant at which I had the Ravioli and got a gastric infection. As you can imagine the following day was awful. For this reason the hotel only gets 3 stars. If it wasn't for that, probably 4.5 stars.

We were looking forward to staying at the Jagat but left feeling a bit disappointed. It has a very good central location and we had a fantastic room overlooking the lake and was very spacious. However, the hotel is let down by poor service. On the first morning at breakfast my wife ordered mint tea and it never arrived. Then at dinner it took over half an hour for my bill to be presented. Worst of all it took over an hour for our food to be served on our 2nd night and the waiters didn’t seem bothered when I asked why it was taking so long. I was also left disappointed by the very small pool on the roof, with only 2 sun loungers that were also very dirty. Overall, it’s a shame because this has the makings of a great hotel, but is let down by poorly trained staff with a poor attitude .

We stayed 3 nights and had very mixed feelings about the place. Firstly the good points. The hotel is a gorgeous old historic building converted into a hotel. Our room was amazing with great views of the Lake. Good location at edge of lake and in the old city. It has a rooftop restaurant with great views across the lake including amazing sunsets and particularly atmospheric at night when all lit up and looking at all other floodlit buildings. Junior staff were very friendly and helpful but superior were a bit surly we felt. The place definitely had a feel that it was not well managed or lead (as another reviewer has said). On the down side the buffet breakfast was by far the worst we experienced on our Indian trip. Very limited choice of cereals, poor selection of fruits and what appeared to be tinned pineapple that was old and fermenting. On our first morning we turned up not knowing the “routine”. We were not greeted so had to sit at a table previously vacated but which still had old juice glasses and place mats and table cloth that needed brushing down. Butter and marmalade served in individual plastic cartons and marmalade was awful. No apparent system to put salt and pepper on tables. Unpleasant looking plastic table mats that looked like they should have been replaced. Apart from breakfast food was ok but nothing special. Bedroom had kettle but no coffee machine. There was fridge as “mini bar” but this was just completely empty. My wife found the basin in the ladies toilet on the ground floor to be dirty round the taps. There is a small swimming pool on the roof top but with only 2 sun beds both of which had dirty covers and no towels provided. There was no shade round the pool. Our bedroom was situated below the restaurant and we were woken in the morning and during the night with sound of the furniture scraping loudly on the marble floor. Breakfast started at 7am. We did not complain as I don’t think the hotel can do much about this. In short the place just needed someone to get a grasp of it. It is certainly not a 4 star hotel in my view and I would not stay there again.

1. Location in terms of the view that this place offers along with the Terrace Restaurant etc is just great!
2. Although the location is great, you cannot get your vehicle anywhere near this hotel as its almost on one of the old bankments of the lake.
3. This is where I see a problem with this hotel. So we paid these guys top dollar for thier Lakeview Rooms, what we expected as a bare minumum was room cleaning when demanded. They didnt touch our room for 2 days after us reminding them for the same daily.
4. The Restaurant Service is not at all satisfactory, They took more than 50 minutes to serve us, on a busy day when they almost 8 waiters doing the rounds most of them were just busy with 1 of the tables where a huge group was seated. This was so clear that they don't care about a smaller table size & don't really pay heed after constant reminders. (It was just so clear that all they care about is money)
They just killed that experience & we really felt bad at that point. They did manage to offer us some discount on the F&B bills, but then what good is that??
Guests happily pay for your rooms and F&B till the point they see value in it. But it shouldn't be a half-hearted effort, If you are trying to place yourself as a Palace, Luxury product then please have the required services and staff to back that up
In essence, I don't see this hotel doing great justice to the kind of money they demand!
We shifted to another hotel the very next day.

A beautiful hotel right on the waterside with the most wonderful views across the lake to the Lake Palace Hotel, and on to the Monsoon Palace in the distance. We had supper on both nights of our stay in the roof top restaurant and was served by the most lovely Dinesh .The food and drinks were really delicious. At breakfast we sat over looking the lake listening to the most wonderful music coming from the temple opposite. The hotel is in the perfect location situated within very easy walking distance to the City Palace, Temple and foot bridge over to the other side of the lake.We would particularly recommend heading over that side for less traffic, lovely shopping and a more peaceful Udaipur experience. Jagat Niwas was a wonderful place to stay in beautiful Udaipur.

As soon as we arrived we were greeted with a welcome drink while our room was getting prepared. The room had a beautiful view to the main hall, where traditional music was played at dawn. The bathrooms were the cleanest I've seen of all places in India. This comes as really important to me. All employees were exceptionally nice to us, and offered us water for our journey when checking out. I would gladly stay again at Jagat Niwas Palace.

No I don't think so .The hotel is inside the old part of the city and vehicle access is very restricted. Our driver parked a few km,s away and we were taken to the hotel by tuktuk.

The hotel is at the end of a very narrow street and then down a short walkway, hence its very quiet and lovely location overlooking Lake Pichola. The taxi from the airport, pre-arranged with the hotel, came within a few yards of the hotel entrance and staff will assist with luggage. Likewise, I imagine, if taking a tuk-tuk.

Sorry can’t help with your query - we weren’t aware of the hotel having its own boat!! We took a boat trip from the palace. You need to pay to walk through the royal gardens as well as the boat trip but it wasn’t expensive!
We stayed in November 2018. Our lakeside room was excellent with divan window seat, two double beds, huge bathroom, and a small fountain. I know we had a top level room but I would expect others to be to a very high standard. One or two had a small terrace outside their door. There are several levels to this hotel.
There are more places to choose from in the Udaipur area.
