The ethereal Taj Lake Palace affords guests the pleasures of India's bygone princely era. Over the centuries, it has played host to royalty, poets and writers and the Maharana's guests. Trappings like a welcoming vintage car ride to the charming city of Udaipur, the Jiva Spa boat, royal butlers, recipes from traditional Mewari cuisine and arrival by boat - all little facets that make this former pleasure palace the celebrated luxury hotel it is today.

My husband, daughter and I have been staying at the Taj Lake palace Udaipur since 3 days and what a fantastic experience it’s been. The Taj touch and magic began right from the jetty where we were made to feel very comfortable by …. followed by Hiya, who was grace and charm personified, at the reception while checking in.

We were celebrating a milestone in the family and when Chef Babu heard of it, he made special arrangements for a beautiful and absolutely delicious cake for the special occasion. What really touched us was that he went further out of his way and arranged for the cake cutting in one of the most picturesque spots in the hotel making the already special occasion absolutely magical. We have such amazing memories of this special day because of his thoughtful gesture!

It felt like each person in the hotel was working towards making our stay special… Here are a few examples: We took a massage and both our masseuses were fantastic. They knew what needed to be done and were polite. The house keeping floor manager, Prasad, ensured that our room was kept beautifully clean. And it's the little touches by the housekeeping person, Subhash, that elevated our experience to the next level. Here’s an example… while leaving the room in a hurry, a book was kept face down in the open position by mistake and he had put a book mark in the book! For a book lover like me who doesn’t like the spine of the book damaged, this was a very thoughtful gesture. In the restaurant, Man Singh along with our other servers were always present when we needed them but were not intrusive at the same time. Mr. Naren, Mr. Parbat Singh, Mr. Mahendar and Chef Bharat made our experience memorable.

The hotel is beautiful and picturesque. I couldn’t stop taking photos and each and every-one from the hotel helped by suggesting the best places for taking photos and offering to take our photos too!

I noticed that they did something special for others who came into the hotel too… eg. For another family that came in … there was a little girl who came with her parents and they showered them with rose petals and the little girl was absolutely delighted. It must’ve seemed like a fairy tale to her and I’m sure this will be a cherished and fantastic memory for her.

This was our first holiday in this property but I’m sure it’s not going to be our last! We are looking forward to coming here soon!

Pretty sure we all have wished to live like kings and queens , haven’t we ?
Taj Lake place Udaipur will make sure you live like one !
The pandemic fatigue had caught up and we needed a break !
Staycations have become pretty popular and more so during the pandemic . I don’t know how we chose the city of Udaipur ? But I’m so glad that we did and chose Taj Lake Palace.
Booked ourselves the Mayur Mahal suite , were a bit apprehensive while doing so as you pay a hefty amount per night but all our doubts were laid to rest as soon as we entered the main gates and reached the embarkment point for the jetty.
Once You get on the jetty you’ll be captivated by the serene Lake Pichola . The short jetty ride to the Lake palace premises feels like a journey which one wishes never ends. It’s magical !
Once you disembark and enter the palace , you are greeted by a sprinkle of rose petals .
The check in process was extremely smooth and while at it you are treated to some local Udaipuri sweets and guava juice.
Shout out to Nimfia Sharma for giving us a tour of the property and escorting us to our Mayur Mahal Suite .
The suite was everything that dreams are made of !
The swing , the jharoka , the huge bathroom with a jacuzzi , the detailing of the peacock ( Mayur) on the walls was just exquisite.
We were completely captivated by our suite and Nimfia made sure that she captured it ,
A sweet gesture on her part to click a picture of us and getting it framed for us , thank you Nimfia .
A special cake was also arranged for us as it was our anniversary.

cultural songs and dances are performed
every evening by local Rajasthani artistes which are quite fun and enjoyable.
The Jharoka restaurant is nice and you can feast on some signature Rajasthani cuisines while overlooking Lake Pichola as the sun goes down.
The patios and the gardens will take your breath away . Do Spend some evenings at the terraces to see a dazzling Udaipur at night and early
Mornings in the company of peacocks.

To stay at the Taj Lake Palace is like a celebration of opulence and luxury .
Tip , if you can , opt for the Suite , it’s a decision you’ll never regret and an experience you’ll never forget .

Thank you Taj Lake Palace Udaipur

Guests pass security on the deck, where they also take care of the luggage. Then, you take a boat to the hotel, with mandatory life vests. On arrival, my husband and I were welcomed with a musician, a dancer, an embroidered umbrella and a shower of rose petals (but the performers aren’t always there).

The lobby, lounges, bar and courtyard are together in an open space, reminding you that this is a palace. Daily, at 6:00pm there are musicians, dancers and acrobats, until 6:46. All the property is a marble wonder that smells like jasmine. There are rooms on the ground floor and the first floor, with no elevators, but the stairs are beautiful and friendly.

Our room was comparatively small, the smallest we had in our 9 different hotels in India, but with furniture worth a museum; in particular, the table and desk in inlayed wood with camel bone were worth the short space.

They have 3 different restaurants and we enjoyed them all, with very different menu and decoration.
The hotel offers a boat ride with an extra cost. We had taken one in the morning for the open public, but anyway we decided to take the one offered by the hotel and it was quite different. For a start, it was a nicer boat with a small group; but more important, it included a guide that really knew the story of every building.

I booked 2 nights in Taj Lake Palace Udaipur with very high expectations. Official photography is really beautiful, it was highly recommended by a friend, hotel architecture and setting seemed to be really unique.
The truth is that is a nice 250 years old building which´s main attribute is to float on Pichola Lake. Architecture is nice but nothing great compared to other Rajastani Palaces or buildings. Most rooms are set in a two story squared building, open air corridors disposed around a central garden. Garden has really magnificent trees and plants, but is not well maintained, at least to ¨Palace¨ or ¨European¨ standards, however I understand that seasonal changes and harsh climate has a part on it, however more maintenance is needed.
Personnel is really up to make your stay comfortable, taking care of small details. Very polite and friendly, in accordance to Hotel category.
Rooms were below my expectations, I even requested to change the room I was given in the first time. It was 118, Rang Mahal Suite, set by the pool, isolated in a corner, you had to go thru the spa to get to it. Room distribution was very uncomfortable, two story room with very narrow steps, first floor with two big massage beds, and the bathroom, second floor with a narrow room where barely fitted the queen bed, in the opposite a Jacuzzi. The room also clearly had signs of lack of maintenance which manager referred as Old Property Characteristics, however this argument not convinced me. Traveling from Europe where some historical hotels doubles or triples this building age, most are neatly refurbished. I got a Standard Room, with a more traditional layout, which was ok, the added value of this Hotel is the Lake view from all of the rooms. But Room still was below my expectation.
There are 3 dinning options, a cocktail bar, all very nice. food is good, no disappointments.
My experience was good, However I think is extremely overpriced, and you only get to sleep in the middle of a Lake, but shore is nice too and there are options such as Oberoi. Luxury is not better than Oberoi in my experience.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your review and for sharing your experience. We are glad to read your kind comments about the unique location, views, staff, their service, attention to detail, restaurants, bar and food. At the same time, we are dismayed to note your disappointment with the room. Had there been availability during your stay we would have certainly suggested options for a change of room. Regrettably, we missed the opportunity being a busy period. We have also noted your feedback with regard to the lawns and shall improve. We value your patronage and look forward to welcoming you back at our Palace. Kind regards, K Mohanchandran Area Director – Udaipur & Jodhpur and General Manager – Taj Lake Palace Udaipur

This is probably one of the most difficult reviews that I have written. It has been an old dream of ours to stay at the Lake Palace, Udaipur. We had seen reviews and watched videos of the place for many years and was really taken in by all the opulence and class of the property. However now that we actually stayed there, we have to say that we had overestimated what the experience would be like.

Now, I’m not saying that there was anything wrong with the place. As a matter of fact, the opulence and the attentiveness of the staff is top class and I have no complaints there. The problem is that the overall experience was not what I had expected from a property that charges over $ 500 a night. For example, the paper napkins in the restaurant, drinking water handed out in small plastic bottles, the crockery was of the same standard as I would find in a 3 star place in any small town in India. All this was really disappointing and not what I had expected from a property that claims to be one of the finest hotels in the world. I was expecting luxury of the top range but that is not what one can expect at the Lake Palace now.

If I had known that this was all I could expect I would have not stayed more than 1 night here and then moved over to a less pricy and modern property like the Trident, which I had visited and found to be very nice too.

But on the positive side the property itself is stunning, spotlessly clean, the rooms are very comfortable and classy, and the staff are all very friendly and efficient.

So, my advice would be definitely stay at the Lake Palace just to enjoy the property, but you don’t need to spend more than 1 night there.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your review – we are delighted to note that you found Taj Lake Palace to be stunning and spotlessly clean, with very comfortable & classy rooms and the staff to be friendly and efficient. We are, however, dismayed that we could not meet your expectations completely, we regret the inconvenience caused and request you to give us another opportunity to serve you up to your entire satisfaction. We would also like to inform you that some of the practices you observed like the paper napkins in the restaurant, drinking water handed out in small plastic bottles have been introduced in the interim due to the pandemic and we hope to go back to our usual standards soon. Once again thank you for your patronage and look forward to welcoming you back in near future. Kind regards, K MOHANCHANDRAN Area Director – Udaipur & Jodhpur and General Manager – Taj Lake Palace

Location is simply outstanding. You cannot get a better view than this hotel in Udaipur. Plus the tag of Taj which gets added raises your expectations after visiting so many of their beautiful properties globally. But, it all ended right there.

A beautiful boat ride from the Jetty to the hotel and a smooth check in with a royal welcome simply put us on top of the world when suddenly we were pushed into a state of shock when our rooms did not get ready till 5pm after long drive from our homes. It was extremely disappointing to see this when we had planned to do so much in that one night of stay in this Taj property.

Pigeons have created a havock in this property and the poor staff is just busy cleaning their litter all around and some portions of the hotel are smelly too. They have some beautiful terrace spots for photos and around the hotel and some nice music and dance program for the guests as well in evenings.

The hotel does have the vibe of being a heritage property but it has started to look very dated along with its rooms. Our rooms were huge with good bathrooms but then few other rooms is same category had smaller bathrooms and not good views. So, it was overall quite disappointing. They also do not have an elevator in the hotel for senior citizens so do make sure that people having trouble walking or climbing stairs need to request for rooms on lower floors.

The views are outstanding and the courtyard in the centre is also very beautiful and have managed to retain some important elements in the hotel.

The main concern was the food menu which was very limited in breakfast, lunch and dinners and the quality of food was not up to the Taj standards at all. This was one of the most disappointing aspects.

Service was up to the mark and evening and night views from this hotel are simply fab!

I just hope that once the new Taj property starts across the Lake, they need to refurbish this entire hotel soon to give it a new sparkling effect. Till that happens, I am not impressed to return back but would love to be at their newest Taj property soon.

Your spirits rise as the car pulls up to the edge of the lake. You are greeted by the staff and music is playing and you are conducted down to the boat. Everything is perfect and you are ferried across the lake to the island where you are met by the beautifully uniformed staff smiling broadly. Rose petals rain down from the roof and you are led inside to a lovely reception and given a welcoming drink. The room was delightful with views of the lake and was very comfortable and sumptuous. The garden is very pretty and we watched the dancers before dinner. A fantastic find.

Our first trip after unlockdown was to Taj Lake Palace Udaipur. It was on my bucket list and lived up all the expectations.Right from booking and support from front desk by Valmiki and Navneet to the check in at jetty to royal umbrella welcome to beautiful room with gorgeous views it was a complete recovery from all the stress of 2020.All protocols were in place and being followed . The room was spacious well lit with beautiful work on the walls and view of the Aravali across the serene lake from large windows.Mornings with sunrise and notes from the flute being played in the gallery created a very soothing atmosphere. Evenings with folk music and dance went by swiftly. There was always sweet birdsong chorus in the gardens even at night .There are many jharokhas and niche spaces where one can relax and just watch the lake ,the palaces and boats . The architecture is lovely and the new built areas merge seamlessly with old . Each area has beautiful artwork and the lobby is especially lovely with fine painting and glasswork on all the walls and columns.I would rank it as the most beautiful hotel lobby I have seen and I have travelled a lot.Housekeeping does a wonderful job of keeping everything clean and there are always bowls with fresh flowers in all areas which add to the ambience. The Jharokha restaurant has very nice views of both the lake and lily pond .The restaurant staff led by Pramod was very attentive and even specially arranged for us haldi ka subji which is a speciality of Rajasthani cuisine but was not on the regular menu.
This was one of my best vacations one must experience this at least once in life. Special thanks to all the wonderful staff who treat you like a cherished guest especially Valmiki Navneet Sudarshan Pramod Narendra Umendra Vinod Nikhil .
