hotel was amazing for the price. My friend and I were given an odd shaped room under the staircase with two twin beds, and we felt like we were living like Harry Potter. The hosts were incredibly kind and friendly, spoke good English. And they had two pet tortoises that roamed around on the rooftop balcony restaurant!

Excellent ambience and good quality food and great taste!! Personalized service. Food with a view has always been great and this place serves this best and even the presentation is great. Purely hygienic.

We had a spacious room with a view of Lake Pichola. The room was clean and comfortable. Unfortunately, our toilet was broken when we arrived, but the staff fixed it straight away. The bed was a bit hard, as it was on a concrete base, but it was a good size. The staff were friendly, and answered all of our questions. There is a nice courtyard where you can sit and have tea/coffee. The hotel is well-located for shops and restaurants, and we found everything to be within walking distance. Note that taxis might not be able to drop you right outside due to traffic restrictions, but you can either walk or take a tuk-tuk the last 800m.

I had stayed in this place 7yrs ago and it was lovely, with the owner’s family staying at the location and lovely terrace. The vintage room was a dream with a perfect location. Nonetheless because of my great memories I booked the place for my vacation with a friend visiting from overseas. But I was so disappointed that we moved to another hotel within 2 hours! The room was not clean (cobwebs and dust all over) , bathroom was old and had water leakage marks, the entire guesthouse looked like it had not been cleaned (plastic bottle, paper, leaves) in the common areas and outside our room. The guest house was deserted. The entrance is not more like a storage space for leather goods. We immediately looked for another place and doing much better options to stay at lower price. The owner was not apologetic about it, rather defensive and did not bother to even consider returning the advance.
I am just sad that they changed such a beautiful guest house, they have new construction that has ruined the common spaces and terrace which were their main attraction.

An old house over the lake. One of the classical backpakers places because the fair one big doorm (mix). Nothing special but enough to sleep. A small box under the bed to keep your bag safe. Showers inside the doorm . A good tree on the small yard with a big table to share stories and tips with other friendly travellers.

Very reasonable.
Best for backpackers and the ones who are on budget but want lake side view.
The dorms are really good, with 2 beds separated with a wall. It cost around 150 Rs. for a night.
They also have luxurious rooms with ac and excellent view of the lake side.

Stayed here for 3 nights, room was basic but clean and had a very good hot shower. Nice communal areas and rooftop terrace, perfect for meeting fellow travellers. Fantastic lake view, and tucked away from the noisy road made the lal ghat a great place to stay

So i was here with 2 of my friends and as the name of this place is , we three were waiting for this destination on a 10 day road trip to rajasthan. This hotel offers really good service and the waiters are really helpful and provide you with very useful information not just about the place but its culture and traditions also.
I would recommend that you take room number 17 . Though it is a bit priced as what is the size of the room but its on the terrace and the view from the balcony is just breath taking .
There restaurant too is located on the perfect place alongside the lake .

First of all, this hotel is located on the Lake Pichola, adjacent to the boating point, and at the heart of the old city, quite literally at a stone's throw from City Palace as well as Bagore ki Haveli. Hence, it offers excellent panoramic views of the lake (with the iconic Lake Palace) and its surroundings, especially at night and early in the morning. I stayed at one of the "Luxury Heritage" rooms in the older lakeside portion of the hotel and hence could enjoy the best possible views of the lake right from inside my room. The room itself was quite comfortable with modern amenities like A/C and TV. Another great thing about the hotel is that it is a heritage property and most people know it by name, hence there was no difficulty in finding it, even if you are visiting for the first time. Also, it is located in one of the busiest streets, so you may find plenty of options for shopping/eating out/buying essentials, right outside the hotel entrance. My only complaint would be the lack of cleanliness of the rooms and indifferent attitude of the owners of this family-run accommodation (they would probably pay more attention to white-skinned people perhaps). When I checked-in, there was no electricity in my room, bed sheets were dirty and covered with insect droppings, ants were crawling all over the seating arrangements, and the room, in general, was not clean enough. However, as soon as I caught hold of one of the service boys and showed him the state of my room (thankfully the power had come back by then), he immediately changed the bedsheets and cleaned my room graciously. I did not have any food here, so cannot comment on it, but the rooftop eating area does offer some great views.

It's actually quite difficult to rate Lal Ghat Guest House.
It does some things extremely well and others not so much.
It's family run and Sanjay can assist with onward bookings though there was a little confusion over our booking which resulted in three of us having to share a room.
Firstly the location is great, right on the edge of Lake Pichola with stunning views and a short walk to the Udaipur Palace with good shopping and eating nearby.
Secondly the young staff are brilliant, very helpful and willing to go the extra mile.
The food is basic but tasty if you want to eat in and a Kingfisher on the roof terrace as the sun goes down is quite an experience.
We stayed in one of the premium rooms right on the lakefront but the thing that let it down was it wasn't as clean as it could have been and there were holes in the sheets.
The wifi reception didn't exist in the room but was available at the checkin desk.
A good tip is you can swim in the rooftop pool at the nearby Udaigarh Hotel for a small fee... a welcome respite when it's hot.
Also there is the facility to store your bags after checkout if you have a late departure.
But my abiding memory is the helpfulness of the young staff... much appreciated.
