We (family of 4 from Germany) spent 2 nights in Deogarh Mahal during our Rajasthan trip. Of all the heritage palace hotels we stayed in in Rajasthan, this was by far the largest and most impressive. It is a fantastic, old palace with many winding corridors, terraces, courtyards and beautifully decorated rooms. The rooms are spacious, the beds and seating areas comfortable and everything is furnished with attention to detail. I would particularly like to highlight the activities that this hotel offers its guests. We went on a train ride. It didn't actually sound particularly spectacular, but it was actually a fantastic experience. We were accompanied by the Maharaja's hairdresser, a very lovely older gentleman called Ishwar. First we were dropped off at the Deogarh train station in a jeep. Then we got on the local train, which was already very full with many Indians. The people were very interested in us and we had numerous nice encounters. Our guide was at our side the whole time, sometimes even as a translator. The 22 km route leads through a breathtaking, hilly, jungle-like landscape! Fantastic views. Sometimes monkeys came to the open, but with bars secured windows of the wagons to be fed by the passengers. At our destination station we were picked up again in the hotel's jeep and driven back on a great route, mostly over sandy and bumpy roads. Here again we saw lots of monkeys and our guide told us interesting stories. Another experience that is highly recommended is the motorboat tour at sunset. It is a smaller motorboat in which around 4 guests can ride. The owner himself (16th generation owner of the palace) drove us across a beautiful lake. He had a picnic basket for us from the staff. He also told many interesting stories. The sunset was fantastic. Afterwards we drove back to the hotel in the "blue hour" in the open jeep. On the way we saw numerous fruit bats. Both activities will remain in our family memories as unforgettable experiences. The only criticism is that the WiFi only works to a limited extent. It is only available at reception.

What an amazing traditional hotel. As part of a tour we were allocated rooms randomly. Some of the rooms were simply stunning. Our room would probably be classed as quirky, having 5 separate small rooms including balcony area with bed and swing; bedroom; seating area; tea area and bathroom. All areas were spotlessly clean. The restaurant was pleasant, food tasty but limited due to the size of the room used. The bar area was outside, no inside area for cool evenings, drinks were very good value after visiting cities. This is not a hotel for someone who cannot handle lots of steps! Also used the spa for both ladies and gents massage. The ladies was excellent, the gents much less so, the massage was not good, missing some body areas totally and not getting to the deep tissue as paid for.

This for sure has been one of our best stays in India. We opted Deogarh Mahal as an option to avoid crowd and regular places where often everyone tend to visit during Diwali or longer holiday periods. While surfing through many options we zeroed onto this option and were very happy to have chosen it. The palace offers supreme level of service, excellent feel of a stay at palace and top it with bare minimal interactions with other visitors or staff of the property. This heritage property is very well maintained and reminds us of a great history behind it. The owners of this property have not commercialized it and have still been able to have footfalls of regular foreign clients along with Indian visitors. The owners have ensured they maintain the class and legacy of the property rather. The property provides more than comfortable stay in classy palace. you get all your basic requirements fulfilled i.e. tea maker in room, hot water facility, excellent beds, clean and maintained rooms and to top it we also had privilege to access a huge terrace overlooking the village of Deogarh and hills of Aravalli. The overall service at the property was classy and all the staff were too good to ensure you have the best stays of your life. The food at their restaurant was very well made home cooked food. The food menu was never repetitive and each item would taste better than the other item. We were lucky to be binged to typical Rajasthani delicacies. Extremely tasty and delightful (better than quite a lot of regular restaurants / hotels). A Special mention about a surprise candle lit dinner organised by the staff on the open terrace of the property, that was the icing on the cake of this beautiful stay. The property is a must visit if you are looking forward to peaceful stay without much of activities and enjoy laidback life at the property. you can access well maintained swimming pool / spa as well. We also got an opportunity to travel on historic meter gauge rail route from Khambli Ghat to Phulad. A must do activity on your visit to this place, the rail journey passes through hilly terrain of Aravalli to pass by forest area and couple of tunnels. It stops at a place close to Phulad wherein the monkeys wait for the train to stop so as to get hands on food given by passengers on board the train, quite a scene. Overall holidays spent well with our own self with best of service and excellent food. You get to live a life of a King or Queen for once in your life, relish it!

We had been allocated a deluxe suite which was very spacious consisting of 4 rooms plus a semi outside terrace with a hot tub, though we didn't use this. The decoration was amazing with 18th century frescos and inlaid mirror and tile designs. There was even a hidden stairway leading off one of the rooms. The slight disadvantage was that the doors were low so we had to remember to duck. This is very much an original 18th century building so don't expect modern style rooms but we did have air con and ceiling fans. A real positive is that you can spend hours exploring or getting lost in the maze of passageways, narrow stair cases and roof terraces. The view from the roof is stunning and a great place to watch sunsets. To help you explore the property there is a very interesting audio tour by William Dalrymple. The key shaped pool was lovely to cool off in after a day's sight seeing. Breakfasts were good and taken inside but evenings meals were served on one of the multiple roof top terraces with a choice of either buffet or al a carte. The buffet food was good especially the Indian breads which were made over a log fire by two ladies. The staff on front desk were exceptionally helpful and pleasant. All in all it was our favourite hotel during our 18 day tour of Rajasthan and the Golden Triangle. Another plus was the freedom to explore the village and lake area without hassle and all the locals seemed very friendly.

An very impressive castle. We had a huge long bedroom with comfy beds , an enormous bathroom with 2 sinks and walk in shower, as well as a vast sitting area. You can visit the private rooms of the property and go right up onto the roof and the views are breathtaking. We had dinners on the terrace and the food was excellent. Breakfast served in the restaurant was also very fine and the staff couldn't have been more helpful &attentive. The only problem there are a lot of stone steps everywhere, luckily a lift reaches the restaurant and 1st terrace but on our 2nd dinner as it was on a higher terrace I couldn't get there. Again the staff did there utmost by setting a table on the lower terrace. Thanks again. A great stay.

It’s a good experience staying at this hotel but it’s glory has come to an end quiet dated rooms not appealing,in need of renovations specially the bathroom. Our lunch and dinner almost the same.the service and its staff are very attentive. The Wi-Fi is bad but got provided with a dongle from reception. we had a SPA but didn’t enjoy that at all. for me the massager was lacking experience.the price we paid didn’t reflect to the quality of service.cost more or less like in Europe.

This place is special - the Deogarh Mahal is basically a beautiful palace that offers a spectacular rooftop terrace with amazing views. We got upgrade to a suite and this was simply the biggest and also best room we had during our whole stay in India. There was a fixed (non-veg) meal offered to us for dinner and the food was very, very good, as was the breakfast. Service was also very good. We had only booked one night in this hotel and wish we could have stayed longer. So while this is not a cheap accomondation, we felt it is totally worth the money. We highly recommend.

Deogarh Mahal is a very special experience. A palace build in 1670 comes with its own character and issues. It is still owned by the descendants of the Royal line of Rawats, the Rawat and Rani Saheb of Devgarh ; basically you are their guests. We had stayed here exactly 20 years ago with our young children and were happy and privileged to again meet the Rawat personally. Expect no modern luxury such as TV, although there is a fridge and the Wifi is good. Our suite 260 was enormous, basically 3 large rooms (bedroom, sitting area and bathroom), all part of the original "zenana" or women quarters. Dinner is set menu with vegetable stew and chicken. The second night we had an exclusive "Romantic Dinner on the Mahal Rooftop", where a personal waiter serves you delicious thali while you watch the village underneath - a truly memorable experience. Breakfast is very Indian, but has egg station, fresh juice and nice curd. The hotel provides other activities such as a village walk, picknick by jeep and train ride. As I said, Deogarh Mahal is not your average hotel, so go with different expectations - and you will be delighted.

It's an impressive building from the outside and we were extremely impressed with our room. It was a beautiful suite with a swinging chair, comfortable bed and an enormous bathroom. We enjoyed walking around the ramparts and views from the rooftop. It's easy to get lost as some guests did, needing help to find their rooms after dinner. We enjoyed a solo lunch in the dining room indoors. The food was made to order, hot and the dal makhani was especially delicious. After lunch we relaxed by the pool for an hour. Sadly we didn't have time to enjoy the spa or a massage, which were really good value, because we had a village Jeep safari. This was a great way to spend a few hours seeing local life and meeting local people. We also saw our first step well which was amazing! Sunset by the lake with chai masala and cookies will be a lovely memory. By the time we got back it was time for dinner. Unfortunately the venue had to be changed to the indoor dining room rather than the rooftop terrace. The meal was served buffet style which was a bit hit and miss as some dishes were warm and some on the too cool side. Breakfast was also included and set us up for the day. Overall we really enjoyed our stay!

It is a great old mahal/haveli. Vikram at the reception made us feel very welcome. The pool is great under the structure. It is in a very nice village with narrow roads (do not drive there in a large car!) and a rustic environment. I recommend it. They went out of their way to give us a variety of things for breakfast. The reception helped in parking and cleaned the car in the morning. Tiny things they could improve: Wifi and the lighting at the dining room at night - it is too bright! They could make it more romantic by turning off some lights.. The management can tell me to help them with this when I visit next!! :-) I am very surprised by the negative reviews of this place.

We enjoyed our visit and would certainly stay there again. We also had a yoga class at sunrise--once on the roof and once by the lake. Great experience. Interesting and lovely place. Helpful service. Didn't understand your question.
