Thanks to Jaggiji and all its staffs.
To be fair, the owners of the hotel were very good and obliging gentlemen. They promptly arranged for 'hangers' when we asked and also cut the tariff by half when we left the room because of the heavily leaking roof and windows. But the infrastructure itself is very poor. Later when we walked out of the hotel after staying awake the whole night to manage the water dripping on the bed from the electrical connection, we found that some very good hotels in the vicinity were offering the same price.
The room was basic, but clean and minimal, which is what we are after on this trip! My only complaint would be that the bathroom sink was in need of re-setting into the wall (room 9) - currently the amount of putty holding it in place was disconcerting and left no room for a bar of soap by the sink! Hot water was a pleasure however.
We also left our bags there for our last day, which was very useful since they are close to the station.
The rooms were neat and there was hot water and Wifi too .. :)
Very reasonably priced and helpful staff and safe for for solo female travelers.
PS: Do not forget to taste the yum kachoris at the Janta sweet home which is right opposite Hotel Govind ;)
The reception is up a flight of stairs and we checked into room 12 (it's a relatively small hotel). Jaggi (the owner) upgraded us to this deluxe room even though we had booked a standard room which was great.
The room was colourfully decorated with newly painted bright coloured paint on the walls. The room itself was really big and the bathroom a decent size. Also had a really big comfy bed.
Unfortunately that's where all the positives end. There was a lack of A/C in our rooms and we had two fans in the room. I'm not sure if it was the room or Jodhpur itself but we got a lot of mosquito bites during our visit here. Before our visit Jaggi said we wouldn't need A/C as it was cool but being from the UK the weather was still too hot and we needed A/C. Also as there was a lack of ventilation in the room is felt stuffy and even hotter. On our first sleep we thought there were aeroplanes flying over us then realised it was the noise was coming from our fans! We couldn't turn them off as it was too hot and stuffy but the noise wouldn't let us sleep.
The other negative about the room was a lack of hot water in the evening. Having been out all day my wife wanted to come back and have a shower and wash her hair but Jaggi told us there was no hot water available in the evenings. Having asked if he could boil her a pan of water that she could mix with cold, he asked staff to turn on the boiler for 15mins so she could shower.
There is no Wi-Fi in rooms. I can totally live without Wi-Fi so it wasn't a big negative but as I was blogging my trip for friends and family it would have been nice to have Wi-Fi in the rooms as you need to sit in reception or at the rooftop restaurant to get it. We tried to sit in the rooftop restaurant but again due to mosquitos we fled! That's also the other reason why we didn't eat at the restaurant. Lonely planet suggest a wonderful coffee shop at Govind, but in reality it's a roof terrace kitchen with a Delonghi coffee machine.
Jaggi is really welcoming and super helpful. He organised a driver to take us to Udaipur via Ranakpur and Kumbargh fort for 3500rs which was a lot cheaper than others had quoted at almost double that. He also offered to exchange cash but we found a slightly better rate (for GBP) at a money exchange office located at the north side of Sardar market. I think he just needs to spend a little money on a makeover for the hotel.
We booked this room based on the good reviews on trip advisor and it was cheap (850rs for a standard room per night). We were there for 2 nights which we managed but only just. Probably because we were only there to sleep, otherwise out the entire day. If you're staying for longer I would recommend staying elsewhere, and if you need comfort during your day, then I would definitely recommend staying elsewhere.
The amount of one-night stand is average so it's a not big deal. The hotel gives complementary for luggage to the room.
I will recommend it to ones looking for budget cozy hotel.
