I stayed in Jodhpur for three nights in February 2015, albeit at another guesthouse closer to the fort. However, on a recommendation from a fellow traveller, I went to The Govind for three evening meals. Travelling solo and intent on exploring Jodhpur and its hectic markets and alleyways, I tended not to eat until the late evening. Having finally found the hotel (ideally placed for the railway station and, therefore for me as I was moving on to Jaisalmer by train at silly-o-clock on the third night), I met with the friendly hotel owner (who presides, from his desk on the approach stairs, on all comings and goings with an obvious abundance of local connections. My meal on each night was in the roof-top restaurant area, dimly lit and with its view of the Fort partially obliterated by advertising hoardings. However, this was more than made up for by the friendliness of the staff (especially Vinod) and the wholesome quality of the food. If you want a very reasonably priced, no-frills and companionable (great place to enjoy lively engagement with fellow travellers) eatery in Jodhpur, look no further. Peter L

Extremely sad how TripAdvisor manages to show a 5 rating for this hotel inspite of the very bad experiences of many guests. I did not have a good internet connection on my way and picked this hotel meerly on the rating without going through the reviews.

To be fair, the owners of the hotel were very good and obliging gentlemen. They promptly arranged for 'hangers' when we asked and also cut the tariff by half when we left the room because of the heavily leaking roof and windows. But the infrastructure itself is very poor. Later when we walked out of the hotel after staying awake the whole night to manage the water dripping on the bed from the electrical connection, we found that some very good hotels in the vicinity were offering the same price.

I am running this hotel since the last 20 years with 100% hard work and honesty. People expect some times too much. You wanted an air condition room and we had all of them booked. This was the only big room free which we offered you after you bargained with us and later due to some heavy rains that night, there was some leakage in this room which has never happened since the last 20 years. We had given you the room for rs 1000/ an off season rate, due to the leakage we gave you rs 500/ back. Looks like you wanted all the money back that's why you have complained about us. Also readers please read this when we offered this customer of ours the room there was no leakage, only after the rain the leakage started. I am very sorry about you quoting zero rating. We give our customers, fresh linen, fresh towels, toilet rolls, soap, we have wi-fi, LCD's in the rooms, as you mentioned we are obliging, i don't know what else you were expecting from a budget hotel liker ours. We have a beautiful roof top restaurant working 24 X 7, sometimes offering tea and coffee in the morning at 5 am also. Let the readers also read our feed back to this customer of ours, who expect a 5 star luxury for a mere rs 500/.

We stayed in a budget room in the Govind for two nights over the Holi festival in Jodhpur. The place was very welcoming, and Mr Jaggi especially was always happy to help plan our visit. The rooftop bar did a cheap basic breakfast and gave provided a useful spot to read and stay cool.

The room was basic, but clean and minimal, which is what we are after on this trip! My only complaint would be that the bathroom sink was in need of re-setting into the wall (room 9) - currently the amount of putty holding it in place was disconcerting and left no room for a bar of soap by the sink! Hot water was a pleasure however.

We also left our bags there for our last day, which was very useful since they are close to the station.

Yes you are right, the sink is already changed in room no 9. It's a funny story, that one of our guest put some load on it and it gave away. That evening we had our carpenter in the hotel. On request he was the one who fixed the sink and not the sanitary man. Now we have done the job, fixed up a new sink. Happy that you like our hotel very much. Thanks, jaggi.

This hotel is located very near to the station on the main road and it is very near to Mehrangarh Fort and Clock tower. Mr. Jaggi was helpful and guided me very well as it was the first time I traveled alone to Jodhpur
The rooms were neat and there was hot water and Wifi too .. :)
Very reasonably priced and helpful staff and safe for for solo female travelers.

PS: Do not forget to taste the yum kachoris at the Janta sweet home which is right opposite Hotel Govind ;)

Govind is a couple of minutes walk from the Jodhpur train station. When you come out of the main entrance, take a right and walk for a few minutes, it's there. The hotel offers a free walking service where they send someone to collect you from the train station which is great as when you first arrive into town the last thing you want is to get lost, walking aimlessly in the heat with your luggage. We arrived on the train from Jaipur and it was one hour late but the guy who came to collect us was there as soon as we got off which was lovely!

The reception is up a flight of stairs and we checked into room 12 (it's a relatively small hotel). Jaggi (the owner) upgraded us to this deluxe room even though we had booked a standard room which was great.

The room was colourfully decorated with newly painted bright coloured paint on the walls. The room itself was really big and the bathroom a decent size. Also had a really big comfy bed.

Unfortunately that's where all the positives end. There was a lack of A/C in our rooms and we had two fans in the room. I'm not sure if it was the room or Jodhpur itself but we got a lot of mosquito bites during our visit here. Before our visit Jaggi said we wouldn't need A/C as it was cool but being from the UK the weather was still too hot and we needed A/C. Also as there was a lack of ventilation in the room is felt stuffy and even hotter. On our first sleep we thought there were aeroplanes flying over us then realised it was the noise was coming from our fans! We couldn't turn them off as it was too hot and stuffy but the noise wouldn't let us sleep.

The other negative about the room was a lack of hot water in the evening. Having been out all day my wife wanted to come back and have a shower and wash her hair but Jaggi told us there was no hot water available in the evenings. Having asked if he could boil her a pan of water that she could mix with cold, he asked staff to turn on the boiler for 15mins so she could shower.

There is no Wi-Fi in rooms. I can totally live without Wi-Fi so it wasn't a big negative but as I was blogging my trip for friends and family it would have been nice to have Wi-Fi in the rooms as you need to sit in reception or at the rooftop restaurant to get it. We tried to sit in the rooftop restaurant but again due to mosquitos we fled! That's also the other reason why we didn't eat at the restaurant. Lonely planet suggest a wonderful coffee shop at Govind, but in reality it's a roof terrace kitchen with a Delonghi coffee machine.

Jaggi is really welcoming and super helpful. He organised a driver to take us to Udaipur via Ranakpur and Kumbargh fort for 3500rs which was a lot cheaper than others had quoted at almost double that. He also offered to exchange cash but we found a slightly better rate (for GBP) at a money exchange office located at the north side of Sardar market. I think he just needs to spend a little money on a makeover for the hotel.

We booked this room based on the good reviews on trip advisor and it was cheap (850rs for a standard room per night). We were there for 2 nights which we managed but only just. Probably because we were only there to sleep, otherwise out the entire day. If you're staying for longer I would recommend staying elsewhere, and if you need comfort during your day, then I would definitely recommend staying elsewhere.

Dear Guest, thanks for the write up. You were very nice to mention that we had upgraded your room. You please note that there are no A/C's in the standard rooms. We have air coolers in the standard rooms and when you were here, the weather was such that nobody ould ask for the cooler to be on. There is very much an air cooler duct also in this room which nobody wants now. Sorry to say that for rs 850/ you were expecting an A/C. Very nice of you to mention that we offered you a pick up from the station. This is a service which we have been offering to all our guests. Coming to wi-fi, please note that i we have wi-fi on for 24X7 in the restaurant and at the reception where all my guests use it, no complain till today from any of the guests. We also give all our guests wi-fi free which really works. I am happy that you mentioned that the rooms had 2 fans, a big comfy bed, a good toilet, but my friend you forgot to mention that this room no 12 has also 3 windows. We have now fixed a new solar energy system for all our guests and no complain till date. Yes we give hot water only if some guest ask us in the evening which we did in your case.. Please note viewers, ours is a budget hotel and there may be some times some things over looked, but as everybody mentions that jaagi is friendly, please don't hesitate to ask what ever you need, we are always there for you. I think my friend was expecting a bit too much for rs 850/, this was a deluxe room offered. I am sorry for the mosquitoes on the roof top, which is not in our hands. I am very happy that you mentioned very good things about us and sorry that you were not totally happy. Please viewers tell us your problems when you stay with us and we shall definitely help you. Thanks, jaggi,

The service regarding a waiter is pretty average. So, it can be a not good impact on the customer from the hotel
The amount of one-night stand is average so it's a not big deal. The hotel gives complementary for luggage to the room.

Visited from December 23-24, 2015. Hotel is near railway station. We arrived by train at 6.00 in the morning. Since we had already communicated our arrival details, owner Mr. Jaggi sent someone to receive us and we were ushered to the hotel. Hotel is comfortable for budget staying. The best part is rooftop rest. Scene from the roof top is excellent. You can sit in the morning on rooftop and enjoy the scenic beauty of Jodhpur. Food is normal. Best thing is it is near main market and railway station.
I will recommend it to ones looking for budget cozy hotel.
