This household has always been welcoming guests and enjoying giving others hospitality for many years. We remember when we were very young boys our Grandpa hosted many parties of all the important local family including the Army, Police, Politicians and Royalty. We remember walking down the road being welcomed by the sound of laughter and music and we knew Grandpa was having another one of his parties! We have carried on this tradition ever since by welcoming guests and hoping that they experience some of the culture and traditions that happen throughout the year in an old traditional house including Diwali - festival of lights -, Holi - festival of colours - and many other celebrations.

I stayed at Durag Niwas for two weeks and had a wonderful time. As a woman travelling alone, I felt very safe and the staff were very helpful. There is a friendly atmosphere and it’s easy to meet other people and explore Jodhpur. The room was excellent value and I will definitely be coming back.

Durg Niwas is one of the oldest guesthouses in an area in the vicinity of old Jodhpur. It’s next to a sports complex and is designed like a haveli. Deluxe and Family suite rooms which we got during busy New year week days were good except a few hiccups. It’s a cosy place to enjoy with a good rooftop restaurant.

We really glad that you took gave us early checkin because we had train reaching Jodhour early morning. It was good experience in staying in Delux room but twin sharing room was very ok. Thank you for your service. But we felt that breakfast and food was costlier.

One of the best stays we experienced so far. Mr. Pratik and Mr. Ajay are so humble and kind. We had a late night check in, and during middle of the night as well the check in experience was smooth. The room was clean, hgenic, bottle of water and glass was provided. The room was spacious too. They also have a cafe for break fast, lunch, dinner and snacks. The House is beautiful and well maintained, They have single, double rooms so do check all the details of the room prior to booking, the size of room also varies in double occupancy so check your preferred room while booking. I would highly recommend this place and the location is also perfect, close to many attractions and also 1 KM from Rai ka Bhag train station and 1 KM from Rajasthan state transport bus stand. They are great hosts and had a great experience

Well.... This place was an absolute find! A truly wonderful place to stay. All credit to Govind and Mukta who were both treasures in equal measures. For a start 7 of us turned up instead of the 6 booked. Not a problem. Rooms were allocated very quickly with minimal fuss. (Rare in India) We were given our room keys whilst the passports were dealt with and probably saved 45 mins. (Very rare in India) Rooms were clean and comfortable with hot water too. The WiFi also works. The place has a wonderful roof terrace where we were all fed and watered with some excellent local food. It has a very homely feeling to the place. Nothing was too much trouble at all. The hosts were amazing (and Chilli the dog) At about 10pm we realised our train had been cancelled the next morning. 10mins later we had a minibus sorted to take us 90kms the next day. I was genuinely sad to leave here, as a lot of accommodation in India leaves a lot to be desired. I will revisit Jodhpur one day and stay here for longer. If it isn’t available I wouldn’t stay elsewhere. I think that says it all. Many many thanks. Steve, Tim, Steve, Steve, Paul, Jonathan and Mike.

Charming rooms set around an open courtyard. The staff are friendly and helpful and can organise trips to villages and wildlife. The guesthouse is outside the city centre but an easy walk through the market to the town centre. Food is available in the small restaurant . The only thing bad is the GH is very close to a suburban railway and there I see little respite to the load hoots and screeches through the night

Thank you very much for your review. It means a lot to us. Unfortunately we cannot do much about the train line crossing our area (500 meters away on north). We wish you happy journey. Warm regards Govind, Mukta and Family

Excellent friendly and efficient staff, Monica an outstanding manager. Made us feel immediately welcome and helped us to find everything we wanted to do and see. She showered us with information and a town map as soon as we arrived and we were able to start to explore Jodphur immediately as we had only a short time there. A short auto ride from the old city, Durag Niwas is located in a leafy side road that's a cul de sac with the schools sports field at the end if the road which the guest house overlooks on one side. The whole place is delightfully decorated with traditional furniture, artifacts and textiles. My room was almost a suite, with sofa and armchairs, standard lamp, balcony, kettle and all the ingredients for tea and coffee. Bed very comfortable if a little short for anyone over 5'9" but my friends bed was longer, so I think it was just in my room. Home from home! There is a washing line and pegs on the sunny roof terrace for drying clothes and a geyser for hot water in the en suite bathroom. You can chill on daybeds or eat your meals up on the roof terrace. Breakfast was ample and had a choice of a la carte cooked or cold buffet style. All very good value. All in all a fantastic place to stay. A must see is the wonderful village women's empowerment NGO that the guest house is involved with. It's located in the next door building and you can meet the ladies there who are making clothes and toys and all sorts of craft products above the well stocked and attractive shop. Kavitha, the manager will show you round and explain there ethos to you. It's a brilliant initiative and well worth investigating.

I am volunteering for Sambhali Trust NGO, running by Govind who's also running the Durag Niwas guesthouse with Mukta. I'm here for 2 months now. This place is so warm and the staff is very welcoming. It is nice to meet volunteers and tourists from all around the world. From there it is easy to take a rickshaw to the blue city and enjoy there nice restaurants and shops. After 1 month in the city of Jodhpur, I'm having the pleasure to volunteer for a month now in Setrawa, well placed in the Thar desert, where Govind is running another guesthouse (Dev Bagh). Here, with other volunteers, we are teaching English in government schools close in the village. Out of our volunteering time, it is good to rest and enjoy the sand dunes, while walking or on a camel ride.
