Hem guest house instantly felt like home. The staff were so friendly and interesting, and the food was delicious (try the malai kofta or the thali). The rooms were really clean and tidy, and the house is just beautiful from bottom to top. I think the real highlight of the guest house is the view from the rooftop at the fort. Prepare yourself, It's awe inspiring. Hem had a wonderful family feel and I have never felt so welcome as a guest anywhere in quite the same way. Top notch!

This place was one of my favorite home stays while traveling throughout India, I would recommend it to anyone vising Jodhpur! The family made the place, they were some of the nicest people I have ever met and were there to help you with whatever you need. The home itself was beautiful and our room was clean and extremely comfortable. The rooftop restaurant had the most stunning view of the Fort and had great service and food. The location was also excellent, within walking distance to the city center and the clock tower. Anyone traveling to Jodhpur should consider staying here if they wish to have a comfortable and friendly stay.

When people say home from home you take it with a pinch of salt. That is where Hem Guest House differs, we were greeted at the train station by their own selected Tuc Tuc driver who took us to meet the family, Richi, Vipin, and their wives and children. To say they were generous with their time and help is an understatement, they took me to buy a Sari and my husband to a tailor to have shirts made, their hospitality is second to none and their home is an absolute delight, the ambiance, food and helpfulness made our stay one of the best in India, if you are going to Jodhpur the Hem Guest House must be your first choice, I can highly recommend. This home is not ageist we are 59 and 69, the other guests were from 20 upwards. Give it a go and spoil yourself.

Hem guest house is not good in terms of location, it is very interior of the old city. It is more homely rather than hotel. But the hospitality of Mr Rishi is very good. He is very helpful.
Only problem is its location, rooms are good but it is inside the house where their family also stays. Not recommended for Indian traveller.

This is one of those instances, where the business is dependent more on foreigners than locals as , although the hosts were very nice, but they did not deliver as promised.
First the good - room is excellent, bathroom very clean, you have some view of the fort from the tiny balcony.
The stay included breakfast, we explained to the family that we would be leaving at 8 AM to see the fort and needed the breakfast before 8 AM, the family went out for a wedding party the night before and did not come back until late, hence when we left the house in the morning, everyone was asleep and we had to buy our breakfast from elsewhere. They did not even apologize or make up for it in any way.
Second instance which bothers me still is, My trousers got wet, as their bathroom did not have a stopper for water and it can leak out of the door, I left the trousers on the suitcase to dry, in the afternoon when we came to pick the suitcase, the trousers were not there, probably moved by someone who came to clean the room etc. the owner promised to mail me the trousers to an address in Mumbai. but never actually sent them. I was really unhappy about it, but overall great place.

One more thing. Its very painful to get here, the house is in the middle of the old city, cars cannot come via the narrow lanes, so something to keep in mind when travelling with luggage.

Good things:
Rooftop view of fort
Helpful people who are always ready to comfort all your needs
Delicious and not to be missed nutella pancakes (the best out of all the places I visited in rajasthan)
Its suitable for backpacker's
Central locality as everything can be found in shops nearby

Bad things:
Very noisy at night so its difficult to sleep as street dogs are barking alot
This place is located deep inside narrow streets of jodhpur so if you either have a big vehicle like a tempo traveller, which I did as I was travelling with my family of 7 adults, we were told to get down at one of the main roads and transfer all our luggage into 4 auto - rickshaw's which was extremely difficult on a chilly winter night after a tiring and a long journey from jaipur!

Overall: I would definitely go there again but not with my full family.

We had a very disappointing stay at the Hem Guest House in early November. As noted, you can't reach it by car, so we had to shell out extra cash for a tuk-tuk. After getting settled into our room, we went up to the rooftop restaurant and ordered dinner. 30 minutes later, I walked down to the kitchen and asked for and received the water we had ordered. 75 minutes after ordering (and 15 minutes after the usual Indian "just another two minutes") our thalis were delivered, with foil over all of the dishes. It didn't help; everything was cold. It appeared that kids were doing the cooking and serving.

I was instructed to request hot water for showers when we needed it. I did so both mornings. We never had hot water. The first morning, we were told that "someone pushed the wrong button". The second morning, who knows, but the water was stone cold.

Our room was clean and comfortable, but the bathroom was scary. You had to point the shower head at a 45 degree angle to get the water headed toward the drain; otherwise, it ran downhill toward the door and into our room.

I'm glad that others have had such good experiences with this guesthouse, but we most emphatically did not! The person who checked us in was friendly and helped us communicate with our driver, but the shortcomings in service far outweighed the benefits.

Room Tip: Avoid the room next to the kitchen; it is noisy and the bathroom is difficult to use.

My wife and I arrived at the Hem guesthouse after a long journey on a train. The owners arranged a pick up on time at the train station and were generally very helpful. The rooms on the first two floors give directly on the family's living room and the kitchen. They are loud and do not provide enough privacy. I probably ate the worst indian food of my entire trip in this hotel and when I complained the owner's brother tried to convince me that the food was alright and that we were ignorant.

The family at The Hem are so pleasant and welcoming it seems mean just to give them 3 stars. We only stayed one night and maybe a longer stay would be better. The food served on the rooftop was very good and the view of the floodlit fort impressive. The room was comfortable and clean. However this is very much a home stay and we did not enjoy the lack of privacy. What clouded our stay was our 4.30 am departure for the early train to Jaisalmer. Vipin told the auto driver to charge us 200rps for the 1 kilometre run to the station. Excessive.

No not required. you will need blankets at night for sure. yes hot water is being provided in the bathroom. regarding free parking I am not sure coz the hotel is situated in very small area hardly 2 wheelers can go inside the road. for that you can ask the owner Mr. Rishi he is nice guy to help with. happy journey. feel free to ask more questions if you may have. tip : must go for a night stay at Sam Desert.
