The location is fabulous and the owners very welcoming. Sunil is eccentric, but charming!

I read some of the negative reviews on here and feel that the reviewers were just not open to staying at a basic, backpacker style guesthouse.

We had a lovely time!

Had an excellent stay here, the room I was staying in wasn't big but it was cheap and only spent my time sleeping in there. There is a nice roof terrace where you can enjoy the views of the fort and the city. The hosts were amazing they really made me feel home. Small family but a great spirit. I even had a few cooking classes which was nice, learned some of the local dishes and its great for me to learn the basics as a chef!

this is a very friendly and cosy little guest house in the heart of the old city with view of the fort from the rooftop. the restaurant serves beautiful indian cuisine but by far the best about this place is the friendly atmosphere. sunil and neena do their very best to make your stay as pleasant as possible. i can just recommend this place

I'm very grateful that there is this restaurant, since I and my friend were walking the streets of old town in Jodhpur one day and couldn't find anything for our lunch.
The place is owned and run by a family, making it another nice point of the place.
The meals were very good, taste-wise. The waiter, the head of the family, is a nice guy, but also very talkative, he will sit with you the whole time while you eat your meal. This might give you a lot of information about the place and the country from a local, so don't disregard it.
Despite all the positives, I had digestion problems the next day and my assumption is that they might be connected to the cleanliness of dishes in which the meals were served at this place. So just be careful how the dishes look like.

I absolutely loved my stay here at Amal Niwar guesthouse, i originally chose it above others because it seemed to be the best deal money-wise, but immediately found it was much more than just good prised. Yes they have good food, a great view and are perfectly located in the heart of jodhpur; But above all I felt at home in the family run guesthouse. Such kind hearted, warm welcoming people, whom I had wonderful conversations with!
Thank you Nina and Sunil
Hope to be back एक दीन

Amar Niwas was an absolute dump run by the family-from-hell. The owner, Sunil, is about as crazy as someone can get-he would constantly corner us and start really uncomfortable conversations about how the West brought divorce, abortion and homosexuality into his country so he hates "the West". Tremendously awkward considering I am American. He also cries a lot,in 3 days he cried 3 times in front of us. And his 4 year old son is a TERROR! His son spit in my face several times and was constantly hitting us and acting-up. Trust me, or find out for yourself. We had no privacy and very little comfort.
Sunil also began perstering us the hour of our arrival to take a camel safari through his guesthouse. Eventually we did and less than an hour after booking I decided we needed to cancel the tour (this was at 10pm at night) and I needed to go to another guesthouse. Sunil refused to refund my money, although no one had been notified of my tour plans and no one had been paid. Unbelievable. He is ONLY about the money...and every opportunity he gets to corner you so that he may brag about himself. He (as is his family and home) is dreadful!!!!

I was impressed with the "Homely and Simple yet Great" reviews on Trip Advisor and all the hoopla about Hollywood stars staying there and decided to try it for a different experience. It was different alright! The owner talks sweetly and claims to be running a very homely joint. But "homely and simple" should not be confused with unhygeinic and ultra bare-minimum as is the case here. Also the prices for food and room are too high for the very basic fare you have on offer at this place.I would advise to look at this as a last resort/option if you can't get anything else.

Well, I have to say that I am not really happy to stay in this place because of the attitude of the owner makes me feel uncomfortable. Since I arrived, he keep trying to sell his camel safari tour to me and also keep saying ( No forcing ). But he will repeat that for so many times a day !
Also, he always ask me to write some good review on the website to help him...( No forcing ) lol
Well, I can definitely write some comment, but I couldn't lie about how I feel.
And about the room, I have been arranged to a dusty & noisy room ( next to the road )
also the toilet was horrible I even cleaned it on my own before I use it...
Even some movie stars stayed here, so what? You can't always glorify yourself by someone else. An instant improvement is much more needed.

But one thing I want to say that the hostess Neena is a really nice and sincere lady.
and about the owner Sunil.. I am speechless at the moment.....

I swear by the reviews given on Tripadvisor to book my stay, this time however was the first time I felt cheated! This place does not live up to the standards that one can expect from a B&B. Unwashed plates, unhygenic bathrooms..one feels crammed in a shoe box. The hosts try at best to tell you 'what you see is what u get'..however, the price that one pays for what one gets is not worth it! I can understand why its popular though..similar to how SlumDog became popular..we like to seee the dirt! I personally saw the host literally forcing a traveller to fill the review on his computer in front of them..no wonder the ratings are skewed.I would choose a different B&B next time for sure.

We arrived to this guest house at 5:30 AM without any kind of prior booking. We called mr Sunil and woke him up. He was kind enough to immediately give us a room and help us settle down. I've never received such hospitality from any other guest house. Certainly worth staying there if ever in Jodhpur.
