We had a really great experience at the Damodra Desert Camp. The location is off the highway hence it it is very peaceful and the camp has been very tastefully curated.

The food was tasty and authentically prepared. Simple food, but it’s the local cuisine served best. Our stay also included a village tour and a camel safari, which were a thrilling experience. And during our evenings, we had a blast watching the folk music and dance performances at the camp.

Star gazing is a truly amazing experience here, away from the lights and sounds of the city. The owner and staff are extremely hospitable and gave us an experience we would cherish.

The highlights of our trip were watching the peacocks running around our camp and the service provided by the wonderful staff here.

Starting with a very welcoming and attentive staff and manager, our stay in a comfortable tent with running hot water and air conditioning was made perfect with the efficient arrangements to go on a camel ride to the Sam dunes and also a dune bashing ride in a jeep! The evening cultural show accompanied by soup and snacks was of a very good standard. The dinner that followed was elaborate and well prepared. Alchohol is available at an extra cost.
Away from the noisy crowds of campers We would strongly recommend this camp!

Friendly and cooperative staff.
Well maintained and clean tents. Not lavish but tasteful.
2 friendly dogs, a flock of peacocks, pigeons, and some bunnies in the campus.
Your evenings (5pm onwards) will be engaged by them. Camel ride in desert, sunset over the dunes, sandboarding (surfing on sand), traditional dance and music accompanied by snacks and tea-coffee on campsite and then dinner is served.
They actively avoid partying groups (no dj, dance floor etc.) so you may prefer this place or not based on your preference. Some kind of traditional instrumentals always playing in the central area.
Everything is included in the tariff, except alcohol if you choose to order.

What could be better? A small set-up of foldable chairs, mattress spread on the dunes during sunset could be done and tea served there. We could see something of that sort being done by another group nearby and seemed a nice setting. They did serve tea to us, in paper cups which often get left behind in the sand unfortunately.

This place was good. It has the basic amenities, the people are very caring and strive hard to provide a great service. The owner and his team was always forthcoming to try and see that we are having a nice stay. The evening program was also quite good, where they had called local artists for singing folks songs and dance, and a few other tricks.

The place though is still super expensive, and for the kind of money that it charges, don't consider it worth the hype. In fact, by seeing this place and also reading multiple other reviews, would strongly recommend not to go for a camping in Jaisalmer. Instead, a better option would be to just stay put in a hotel in Jaisalmer and do a day trip to the dunes. The food is also just ok.

Tip: They tend to serve dinner only towards the fag end of the cultural program and thus if you are hungry, would suggest to reinforce your requirements to them early enough. This is especially the case for families with kids

Response from Prithvi singh, Owner at Damodra Desert Camp
Responded 5 Jan 2021
Hi Nitin, Thank you for your review and we are very happy that you enjoyed our property. We pride ourselves on providing high-quality service, facilities and food and entertainment for all of our guests. I appreciate that you consider our camp to be expensive. Again, in order to provide a comfortable, safe and hygienic environment with above basic camping amenities, as well as our high-quality service, facilities and food and entertainment for all of our guests we have priced our camp accordingly. There are many other cheaper options around Jaisalmer but at these camps you will find that they do not meet the standards that we provide. While you have suggested that it is not worth staying in the desert, this is one of the biggest drawcards for people coming to Jaisalmer, as well as the beautiful city. Most people spend at least one night in the desert and then one night in the city. Damodra Desert Camp is also in a private location away from the throngs of tourists who flock to the Sam Sand dunes. Camping in the desert allows you to relax and enjoy the sunset and sunrise on the dunes, as well as local wildlife at these times, our dinner and dancing program and our camping tents without the need to rush back to the city in the late night. We are also happy to serve dinner at any time during the evening and take the lead form our guests as to when they want to eat. We serve snacks and drinks during the program also and ask all of our guests to let us know when they want their meals. Lastly, at the time of your stay we had only recently opened our camp again after almost 10 months of closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During the time of our closure we have continued to support our staff who are all from the local community as much as we can. I hope that you and your family can enjoy our camp again in the future. Kind regards, Prithvi Singh Owner, Damodra Desert Camp

I loved my stay at the camp,it was magical! The location is one of a kind with limited tents, which means less crowd and more peace. There is a tower from where you can see the sunrises and sunsets, it gives the perfect view.Early morning you can see a beautiful sunrise while being surrounded by many peacocks and peafowls. At night you can see the sky covered with stars, one of the most spectacular views I have ever seen.I was lucky enough to spot a few shooting stars too.You can head to the star gazing tower for this experience .In the evening there’s a whole entertainment program packed with folk singing and facing along with a puppet show.We opted for a Swiss tent for our stay which was beautiful, neat and clean. The food is so delicious, You could taste all the flavours of Rajasthan! You have to try the Lal Maas (Rajasthani mutton curry),Bajra Roti and garlic chutney.
This serene place is habitat to many peacocks, peafowls and different species of birds and the also have their own goats and dogs who are extremely friendly and loving.
Special thanks to Mr.Prithvi and team for such an amazing hospitality

My family and I stayed here right after the new year for 3 nights. The property is beautiful. All the staff was very helpful and Prithvi (the owner) treated us like family. I fell ill on the 3rd day of the trip, Prithvi's team and him made sure I had hot soup, medicine and healthy food to recover. They even set up a bonfire for me by my room so that I could get fresh air and enjoy my last night at the resort.

Their desert safari, camel rides, sunsets and evening show are so fun too. I highly recommend Damodra and will definitely visit again.

We stayed in this desert Camp for two nights in March 2020. Corona virus had just made inroads into India through Italian tourists. We found the Camp to be clean and the location peaceful and excellent. The evening programme is very entertaining and good quality performers. On the second night there was only one guest to see the performance but they still performed ( we did not go as we were tired after long day trip and we had already seen it earlier evening) as we could hear the music. Their desert safari is little different as they avoid the popular area. The tents are good but basic amenities. Clean toilets and running hot water. Ac and heater in the tent. Had some interesting interactions with the owner Prithvi Singh. Please note that if you book through Booking.com and if they are supposed to charge you in advance few days earlier; they failed to charge you and it creates confusion. So you may have to pay at the check out unless you paid at the time of booking itself. The ambience is good and the food is good. The breakfast spread is limited as they have only 10 tents. It is away from the city so commuting may be an issue. The car rental by them is little pricey. Overall a pleasant experience.

This was our second visit to damodra resort. The first time we visited was in Dec 2018. Me & my husband loved the place soo much that we decided to spend our 2020 new years eve here.
It’s the most amazing place where u can connect with nature away from all the hustle of our hectic lives. It is one of those places which gives you positive vibes.
The staff is very supportive and will go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. The owner Mr.Prithvi ji is the most humble & polite person you will meet, he will take a moment in talking to you and looking at if you are enjoying your stay. Their tents are very comfortable and of good built, not like other camps where mostly are temporarily builtup on wooden planks.
The food here is simple home cooked but very very delicious.
I would definetly suggest damodra resort to everyone visiting jaiselmer.

We are a family of 4 from the uk. Having travelled to many countries around the world, I can honestly say that the hospitality we experienced was fantastic. Both Mahdhev and his team were excellent. We were also greeted by the owner Prithvi who was very friendly and helpful.

We had a great stay from the moment we arrived. After some rest time in our desert tents (which were clean and comfortable), we travelled to the nearby Thar desert and experienced a camel ride to the dunes. This was followed by sand boarding down the dunes. We then witnessed an amazing sunset!
In the evening, the camp hosted a native music and dance show outside which was fantastic. During the show, the hosts provided soft drinks and snacks. Following the show, dinner was provided which was varied and delightful. After dinner, we went to the star gazing observatory where we lay on comfy sofas and watched the thousands of stars in pitch black. We even managed to see 2 shooting stars!

Overall the visit was personalised and fantastic and would highly recommend the experience.

We stayed 5 nights in the desert camp Damodra, about 30 Km west of Jaisalmer. However, most of the guests only come for a camel excursion and stay for 1-2 days. The camp organizes camel excursions. These can be day tours or just sunset tours. Our camel driver was Guda, a very likeable person who is not only good with the animals, but also a master chef when it comes to preparing a delicious meal in the middle of the desert on the ground.
The camp has 10 tents, is very well run, clean and well maintained. There are a lot of peacocks walking around between the tents, but they don't bother in the least. Otherwise it is quiet during the day. If you want, you can enjoy an excellent lunch.
Every evening, a group from the nearby village plays Indian folk music for about 2 hours after greeting newly arriving guests at the camp entrance. The group is really good. They also have a dancer and a puppeteer.
During the spectacle there are drinks (I can highly recommend the Lemon Soda, there is also beer) and every 10-15 minutes a plate of delicious appetizers is served. The waiter is very attentive. He brings the orders quickly and always keeps an overview. Most often this spectacle takes place in front of the tents in a kind of arena. A small table with a candle and a bottle of water is prepared for each guest couple. The arena is comfortably lit. After the spectacle there is a hot buffet with wonderful Indian dishes.
There are many hardworking employees who are very discreetly concerned for the well-being of the guests. Here the guest really lacks nothing
