The Sarai at Toria is a beautiful riverside retreat close to the World Heritage site of Khajuraho and to the Panna Tiger Reserve. The eight independent cottages are created in village style mud and thatch but have spacious contemporary interiors. The dining/sitting area is an open structure commanding serene and stunning views over the Ken river, to the park's hills beyond.

On our arrival after a long journey there we were met by Joanna and Raghu with the friendlies of welcomes. The location overlooking the river Ken was idyllic to say the least as was the accommodation and so comfortable. With the sound of the river. The staff were most friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. We enjoyed the river trips you can take while there its so peaceful on the water. The National Park is also a short journey away. PJ our naturalist was very knowledgeable on all things around him especially on our trip to Ajayghar Fort. Finally the food at Sarai, we can only congratulate the chef for the most excellent cuisine on every meal we had. This was a relaxing stay on our trip especially with the pre dinner drinks around the open fire every evening, quite

This is our third trip here and we went back because we love the place and its owners Raghu and Joanna. It is a little complex consisting of 8 double cottages and a canopied lounge/dining room area. The Sarai is situated next to the Ken river about 30-40 minutes drive from Khajuraho airport and less than 5 minutes drive from Panna Tiger Reserve. The food is simple but delicious and couples who have sat around the camp fire having a drink before dinner tend to dine together. We went on a tranquil late afternoon rowing boat ride on the river and also a guided village walk to Toria. This is simple but very comfortable and well worth a visit

We loved our three-night stay at the Sarai near Panna national park. The Sarai has 8 beautifully appointed cottages set in the back of a grassy compound on the banks of the river, Ken. I could spend hours on the balcony of our cottage, which looked out on a frequently-visited birdbath. The food is fantastic, especially the wonderful desserts. And the Sarai will help you organise pretty much any trip you might be interested in - boat rides on the Ken, a day trip to Khajuraho's temples (half an hour away), morning and afternoon safari drives to the tiger reserve (2 kms away), and some off-the-beaten-track Chandela-era forts in Ajaygarh and Kalinjar (full day trips). The resident naturalist, Jaipal, is great, and you must try to persuade him to accompany you to the park if

Thank you for your lovely and very kind review. The park really is a gem with stunning landscapes and so much diversity; we are so glad you enjoyed it and were lucky with your sightings. I share your view of the desserts, which is dangerous since I am here throughout the season! Joanna

A nice, small, 8 room lodge right on the Ken river bank. All you hear is the sound of flowing water and some birds. The location is simply awesome. The staff are very simple, courteous, warm and friendly. The food is very tasty. Lunch was fantastic. However, there is some scope to improve the breakfast, both quantity as well as quality (Indian options). The lodge owners Raghu and Joanna are very nice people and they manage operations very well. It was nice to sit and chat with Raghu and Joanna after our safari drives. Generally all guests tend to get together right outside the restaurant and chat/connect before dinner. The night skies are very clear and we saw many planets and constellations. The lodge is very close to the Madla gate of Panna Tiger Reserve. We stayed for 4

Thank you for your great review and rating although sorry to hear you found our breakfasts inadequate. We do try to tailor our meals to our guests but must apologise for falling short for you. We hope there may be a next time when we can make amends! We were happy you had such good wildlife sightings on your first visit to Panna.

Sarai at Toria is a wonderful, small eco-resort hard by the Ken River in Panna in the state of Madhya Pradesh that was created by Joanna Van Gruisen – a Brit who is a professional wildlife photographer - and her partner, Dr. Raghu Chundawat - one of India’s foremost experts on tigers and snow leopards. Through a series of circumstances they came to create this resort in order to stay in and help support this rural community that they had come to love as a result of living here for many years while doing research on the tigers of Panna National Park. There are eight cottages of local construction with thick mud walls, that are spacious and wonderfully appointed set in natural surroundings of long grass and trees. Power is solar, the hot water heated by wood and burnable

Thank you BobShay for your kind and informative review - embarrassingly complimentary! We really do receive the most wonderfully interesting guests - such as yourselves - and we really enjoy it when they get to know each other and appreciate this too. We hope to see you again one day. Thank you.
