The Sarai at Toria is a beautiful riverside retreat close to the World Heritage site of Khajuraho and to the Panna Tiger Reserve. The eight independent cottages are created in village style mud and thatch but have spacious contemporary interiors. The dining/sitting area is an open structure commanding serene and stunning views over the Ken river to the park's hills beyond.

What an amazing place, and wonderful people. The location is stunning, on the banks of the river Ken, on which we took an unforgettable sunset boat trip. Accommodation is superb, lovely chill-out area overlooking the river, with a hammock perfect for reading/dozing, food yummy. You go primarily for the safaris, of course, and we were extremely fortunate, on our first we saw a tiger within 10 minutes, on our second it wasn't long before we saw not only a leopard, but 4 (yes 4!) young adult tiger cubs, playfighting to the delight of the photographers. Of course these kind of sightings are not guaranteed, but there is plenty to see besides. Joanna, our gracious host, and Piyush the manager went out of their way to look after my partner when he came down with a painful sore throat, taking us to the doctor and organising medicine. The only improvement would be a swimming pool and maybe a list of prices for the bar, but I'm a perfectionist! We have memories for a lifetime, this place is magic.

This is an absolute must stay. Fabulous hosts, great food, superb setting and grounds. Near to panna park and set on the banks of the river Ken. The architecture is a triumph with beautifully crafted lodges and a characterful central space. A haven of peace and tranquility. Wish we had stayed longer - 2 days are not enough.

Last year we we visited Serai at Toria as a couple and this year we decided to bring the family, 6 adults and 2 young children. We were made very welcome and had a great time. We saw all the wildlife we came to see. The food was very good, proper Indian home cooking and mildly spiced. The children ask to go back now.🥰

Really enjoyed our stay. The staff are very welcoming and friendly, the location is spectacular with its view over the river, beautiful grounds and access to the Panna Tiger Reserve, excellent, spacious rooms and delicious food. We were fortunate to see tigers on our first safari, a mother and four cubs, but we also enjoyed our boat trip on the river, and our walk to the local village. It’s very hard to find any fault, perhaps if anything the pillows were a bit firm, but that was a small negative which others may like. Thank you.

This is one of the loveliest places we have stayed in India on our many trips, with the kindest and most efficient staff, the most beautiful cottages, the most gorgeous and accessible surroundings and a peace and quiet that took us completely by surprise. Our hosts Joanna and Raghu were so quietly attentive and organised making the experience seamless. Food was just outstanding and brilliantly served. Despite the bitter cold the area was experiencing, we had warm fires, blankets, hot water bottles - even clothes lent to us by Joanna and Raghu because we hadn’t come prepared. Piyush was a fantastic organiser and we had a great walk with him. JP and Devendra were outstanding spotters - we had incredible experiences seeing tigers (three cubs on our first safari - and with nobody else there, four cubs on our second!). Our boat trip was just wonderful as was the trip to the potters. Can’t wait to go back. Thanks to everyone who made it such a fabulous four days (not long enough!).

We want to express my heartfelt thanks to Joanna, Raghu, Piyush, Sarman, Raju Bhai and entire team at Sarai at Toria for taking such good care of us. From well appointed rooms, to delicious homely food, perfect tea the way entire family likes and I can go on and on with the list. My mother is just in awe with the packaged lunch and how detailed and thought through it was, with paratha rolls, fruits, banana bread, cookies. Thanks once again. Wish to visit soon again.

Our second stay here, our first was in 2019 and we loved it so much we just had to come back! Our hosts Joanna and Raghu made us equally welcome, we love their company. We also love their helpful friendly team of staff who cannot do enough to ensure your visit is perfect. The cottages at the Sarai are beautiful, built by local craftspeople in a traditional style. Huge rooms, beautifully furnished with lovely bathrooms and local organic toiletries. We love that the Sarai is determined not to leave a footprint and is eco-focussed in all that they provide. Food is plentiful and beautifully presented. Much is grown at the Sarai. Their safari breakfasts are legendary. I love their little home-made biscuits that are served with our tea and coffee. A not to be missed experience is an evening trip on the river in a traditional rowing boat to watch the sun go down. Sublime! This time we also took a walk to the local village where we met some villagers and lots of inquisitive children. I can't help but think we will return again to the Sarai, it's a little piece of Heaven here on earth.

We loved this place. The food is fantastic and the views outstanding. The owners consist of a biologist and wildlife photographer so a perfect place to stay whilst on safari. The ride down the Ken river was a real highlight. Naturalist JP also made sure we had a very memorable day of safaris (we saw 4 tigers- one came out on the road and just lay there). Couldn’t recommend a stay here or Panna tiger reserve highly enough. A real must if you’re visiting India.
