Our family run hotel is beautifully located on top of the spectacular and unique red cliff on the seashore with magnificent views, offering comfortable, clean, quiet rooms and independent cottages, nicely situated in a tropical garden setting with small pond.
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
My friend and I had a brilliant stay here for 7 nights in Varkala. We had no booking and so wandered the main street on North Cliff which we loved (very nice and buzzy and quiet in evenings just the sound of the waves). We wanted to be in the heart of it all and we are so glad we choose here to stay. We didnt go for the bungalows but one of the rooms/flats up a small set of stairs. All staff are so helpful (thanks for finding me superglue to fix my sunnies!) And it's linked to a lovely cafe restaurant next door which does amazing smoothies and food. Staff there are lovely too. As two girls we felt so safe and cared for. Thankyou for the great memories. Highly recommended. One tip: get all of the 2/3 wifi passwords on arrival as some drop and so there are backups.

From the moment Mr.Alim Sha and his driver collected us at Trivandrum airport for just 700 rupees, to the moment he drove us to our next destination 1.5 hours away for 700 rupees, and everything in between, the Hill View Beach Resort was fanastic.
The staff were very friendly and incredibly helpful, the location was most convenient and very spectacular and beautiful, the hygiene was excellent, the food in the restaurant was terrific. In terms of value for money, I think it would be very hard to beat!
Thoroughly recommended, and look forward to returning in the near future!!

We spent 3 nights at the Hill View Hotel in Varkala. I was a little worried as it wasn't listed in the Rough Guide, however when we arrived it couldn't have been better. We had an a/c room with wonderful view of the sea. The staff couldn't have been more polite and helpful. The attached restaurant (cafe del mar) turned out to be the best in Varkala - we tried several others which were all disappointing. Go for the fish biryani! The lovely breakfast was included in our room rate. The bathroom actually had a bath which is unusual. They also arranged washing and taxis for us. Not very cheap (i think it was 2000 Rs for a/c balcony room), but much better value than things like the Taj chain which we stayed at in other places. Highly recommended.

The rooms are overpriced and should be in the 3,000 rupees or less range. Cleaning staff are nice but the office manager is a little rude and patrols the grounds like a guard telling tourists to switch off the AC to save money - very uncomfortable with their attitude. Not suitable for single female travellers

After a month long tour of India we can honestly say that this was the best hotel we stayed at. It is a haven of peace and tranquility with a prime location on the North Cliff. The staff are extreemly friendly and helpful and the attached restaurant serves the most delicious food at very reasonable prices. Mr Alim Sha will do all he can to make your stay perfect; and that includes very reasonable taxi fares to your next destination.
Varkala North Cliff has a multitude of shops and restaurants and a clean beach with rolling surf. The only comment we could make is that access to the beach is via steep steps; however if you walk along the cliff top there are more accessible beaches.
We would recommend hiring a Tuck Tuck for around 1000 Rupees to explore the surrounding district.
We will definitely be returning soon.

We loved our stay in this hotel. Staff was very friendly, rooms were very clean and the seaview is breathtaking! Also, it is absolutely true that the hotel's restaurant is by far the best on the cliff. I recommend this hotel to all my friends and hope to stay here again.

Super comfortable cottages and very good service make this place a great find. Located right on the cliff, Hill View Resort made it easy for us to enjoy all that Varkala had to offer. We had a very relaxing stay with our parents and ten-month old baby.

I came to Varkala for three days and stayed at a little guest house nearby. But I realized quickly that I wanted to stay longer--and even longer--and there was no room where I was staying. I met a mom and daughter from France who were staying at Hill View and were very happy there, and then I met a couple from Canada who were staying there as well and were very satisfied. I ended up spending the next three nights there as well. I was quite happy with everything. The room and grounds were clean and comfortable. I declined air conditioning, and found that I didn't need it--the room, at that time of year--stayed cool with the fan on. This was just a few weeks ago in February. My room was on ground level with the little patio, where I enjoyed sitting and reading or working on my laptop. Also included is breakfast at the Cafe del Mar. It was excellent each morning and they allowed the price of that breakfast to be applied toward another one if you didn't want what was served (eggs and toast and fruit--all excellent). Staff are helpful and friendly.

This place is a bit pricy but we needed some comfort and we found it here. Big room with sofa, tv, very comfy bed, clean sheets and towels, room clean. The shower didn't work well though, sometimes there was no water, sometimes only extremely hot, sometimes cold. We decided to take this room without a/c as there were mosquito screens on the windows, but it was a mistake. We were 1st floor and no air was coming in because of the way this place is built. And the employees were making a loooot of noise every morning, passing the bruim or throwing coconuts down from the trees... If you stay here choose a/c or go elsewhere for non a/c. If you need wifi, it does work well here (well, it's still India...) but do ask for the code to reconnect the whole network, which disconnect every 10 minutes.

Hi,
we got a business card off the reception boy when we had a look round the hill view last season, as he said we could book direct, we emailed him twice in March and are still waiting for a reply. in the end we booked on line, the phone numbers on the card were 9995572200 & 9846167300
hope this helps.

We stayed in a cottage, did not see the deluxe rooms which are in the main block. The rooms might be more modern, but their in a hotel building. The cottages are in a garden further back and very peaceful. Very spacious, nice verandah, but furniture and bathroom possibly more old fashioned than hotel room. Have a look at my review, there also photos of cottage inside and out
There are more places to choose from in the Varkala Town area.
