I originally booked the one of the deluxe cottages but when I arrived I found that they where not that deluxe and where located right by the entrance and by the generator. I requested to be moved to a room on the 1st floor over looking the pool. The only downside of this room was that it did not have a/c or a fridge. However it had a better location than the cottage and very cheap (4 days = 1 day for the deluxe cottage). As with all Indian hotels the staff and service was excellent. The hotel is only a short 5 min walk from the beach and has an excellent pool with a jacuzzi.

After reading excellent views of visitors to Varkala, who had stayed at this hotel, I and my wife also went there. The hotel is an average one, not near the beach, which is good half kilometer away. The word "Beach Resort" is totally misleading, all hotels, hostels, rooms to let, are a beach resort. The room given to us on arrival, was small, on the first floor, overlooking the pool which is in the middle, without even a cupboard to hang our clothes in. A cane hat & coat stand, stood leaning precariously, threatening to keel over if I hung a single garment on it. A family of cockroaches ran helter skelter on our intrusion. We promptly changed this room for a larger one on the ground floor, near the entrance. Instead of planned fortnight, we stayed four days. During our stay from 8th to 12th Feb.2005, the room was not cleaned nor were bed linen and towels changed. Before leaving Germany I had corresponded with the manager about our taking ayurvedic treatment, believing that such facility existed at the resort. However, he phoned a doctor, who had his Padma Ayurveda centre across the street, came over and took us there. Then without making a case history, checking our pulse, weighing us (he had broken weighing scales), without examing our eyes or tongue, he decided on the treatment for 14 days and made out the charges. He assured me that the effect of treatment will last one year. After ten days' treatment, my joints were swollen and my wife, who was guaranteed to lose ten kilos, lost none. We stopped the treatment. I have decided to make a complaint to Kerala Ayurvedic Institute.
The manager and staff at Rajapark are friendly and helpful.

I recently stayed at Raja Resort, which is a branch of Akhil Resort, and the experience was incredibly disappointing. The resort seems to categorize customers into families and bachelors, with the latter receiving subpar service.

My friends and I, a group of three, were charged an extra 750 rupees for an additional bed, bringing our total payment to over 3000 rupees per night. However, we had to change rooms three times due to poor hygiene and malfunctioning sockets. The extra bed provided was dusty and in poor condition. Despite requesting a replacement, the issue persisted, leading us to forgo the extra bed entirely.

We wasted nearly two hours dealing with these issues. Even after being moved to a pool view room, the overall experience was not worth the 3350 rupees charged. The resort falls short in basic facilities such as hygiene and overall maintenance. I do not recommend this place based on my experience.

OK, we'd been spoilt by great places in Cochin and Mararikulam. We booked the heritage cottage just inside the gate on the night the frequent power cuts in the area were more frequent than usual. The cottage is directly opposite a generator that kept us awake all night although the cottage was nice inside. Oh, and the security man sleeping on our porch was a surprise too. We ended up sleeping with our daughter in a separate bungalow that we had to rent because they had missinformed us about separate sleeping areas. We then moved to two pool side rooms. They were OK. On the last day the pool went green and had to be emptied.

Our laundry went missing.

Food was acceptable but the service was often painfully slow, but that's to be expected in Varkala generally - you can never go for a quick meal there.

We took massage at Kairali - a no fuss clinic but excellent massage - there is no centre at Raja Park although the website leads you to believe so.

All in all it was OK. This is India and to their credit the management did resolve our problems eventually with a bit of pestering.

As long as you don't expect too much, it's actually a good place to stay with good proximty to the beach and transport and massage, but do pester to get what you expected.

The place was rather deserted when we were there (off season), but the staff was friendly and the room ok. We had access to the nice pool of the partner resort on the opposite side of the street. The restaurant is pricy, but good. Try the dessert "Hello 2 the queen".

As I never been to kerala before, my first visit through raja park was wonderful, the saff’s are really nice and confi. Resort was located in such nice and cram place, it was ideal for me coz I was on my honey moon. I happened to spend lot’s of intimate times with my wife..i would say it was even more than I expected. it is such a value for money and I would suggest to everyone I know about raja park and varkala…they have got even better customer service that some five start hotles I been before. varkala is really a heven…I can’t belive I never been to this paradise before.

The manager shaju was really helpful on every occasion on our visit. He was best resort manger I ever been to. That guy has provided all our need in the push of a button. As they mentioned about a review I happy to give a 10/10 to raja park resort. they been wonderful I will not forget that holiday for ever…and wishing to visit them again…

When we arrived in Varkala we had no booking at all and were very pleased to find this place!! It is very clean with a nice pool, the rates are good and the best is the very caring and friendly staff. to the beach it is just a nice 5 minutes walk which we also enjoyed very much. We felt very comfortable all the time. If you need any help just ask Sreekanth, he can organize everything! ;o)

"It's worth the money too choose a deluxe room sometimes cause it doesn't cost that much more and it can really make a difference in the quality. The food cost nothing in India, put that extra money on the room!"
