I love this place. I just kept extended my stay because I felt so at home. The rooms are simple but spacious. The room is spacious, it has a wardrobe and SOFT double (or two single) beds, good size bathroom with hot water, fan or A/C and a balcony or porch. Its CLEAN and quiet and over looks palm trees to the front and the ocean to the side. Its nearly on the cliff edge, but its set just a few 100 meters back, which is perfect because you have some privacy. Its in walking distnace to everything you need. The family is lovely. The husband and wife do it all together. The are kind and helpful but they also are very respectful of your space and time. I would recommend this place to anyone and I will absolutely return.
The bed is really comfy. Good price. Ac option or non ac is available. Warm water available as well and next day laundry service. Wifi is good for browsing and watching youtube. 1 minute walk from the beach. Highly recommend
Lovely room, great location near the cliff. Excellent cooking class - we learned to cook thali. Good taxi from the airport. Sujeeta and her mother Saroja are friendly, helpful hosts. The Raj Palace is a family business and felt safe and secure.
I spent at Raj Palace 27 days in August 2018 and it was beyond me expectations! Moving out from a near by ashram where I was doing my yoga teacher's training I felt like in a 5* hotel. No exaggeration. The family is very friendly and was helpful through all the time. I should mention I was there when the monzoon season was exceeding its maximum and as a result there was a lot of water in all Kerala which was effecting not only the electricity suppply. Rooms were clean and nice. I asked for a mosquito net which at the end was not really necessary. When I needed a new towel or sheets, it was always exchanged. Bathroom was clean with running cold and hot water. Ocassionally I used a laundry service, which was fair to its price (20 rupees per peace, which is cheapest at the cliff). I was spending my time in the first floor which has a shared balcony (great for making friends, but everyone respects his space) with a hammock. Raj Palace is situated a 30 sec walk from the cliff. You can hear the sound of the ocean all the time. Plus there is a beautiful view in the garden with coconut palms. The little street is very secure even in the night. Families are locking the main entrance gate in the night so that no one from outside could enter. It is quiet place but remember, there is a lot of life in the night, especially cicadas which are noisy so I recommend ear protectors (use in all India), bring them from your contry if available because there is no chance to get them in Varkala ;)…
I cannot tell many good words about Raj Palace. PLUS: terrace and location MINUS: - AC not working, - water in bathroom very wird (you can use only cold or only hot water - it is not possible to use together) - we were pressed to leave room almost 2 hours before check out time
We arrived to be greeted by the Grandma of the family. She showed us to the room and said her daughter would come. We waited 40 mins before going out. The location is excellent on north cliff. Room is basic, fan is good. No hot water unless you wash Indian style as the overhead shower only has a cold tap. No toilet roll or soap provided despite booking saying it was. A few hours later a man pushed the registration form in front of my husband. They photographed our passports and visa's. The daughter arrived later and was friendly enough, but no explanation of anything. We owed 2430 rupees and I gave her 2500 and she never offered any change. My husband was sitting on the balcony one evening and the man came and switched off the fairy lights on the bush on our balcony which he thought was very rude. We were later sitting on the balcony at 23.45 making absolutely no noise when he came past and asked us "are you not sleeping?" I felt they just wanted to save the electricity. Booking.com said breakfast was provided for 100 rupees, this was one of the main reasons I booked. When asked she does not do breakfast. It also advertised lunch and dinner for 125 rupees. I presume this is not provided either. The bathroom was dirty, the soap dish and mirror covered in old soap. We did not ask for our room to be cleaned in the 2 days we stayed. Annoyed the next day after the fairy lights incident I asked for my 70 rupees, I don't think she was impressed. We found the whole experience pretty unfriendly. However good enough basic to in excellent location. …
Raja palace is perfectly situated, a mere 30 sec walk from the top of the north cliff. That's a huge bonus coz varkala is all about the north cliff and all the sights and sounds you would want to experience in varkala are situated here. The rooms are not even remotely fancy, but they are exceptionally clean. The property doesn't promise you anything that it doesn't provide. Supremely clean rooms, and bathrooms, helpful staff and hassle free formalities are all that you should look for when traveling to varkala. I have been to varkala and stayed elsewhere. Those rooms were fancier but not as centrally located as Raj palace. I will definitely visit varkala again n I'll stay at Raj palace again. Affordable, clean and very close to the cliff - you don't need much else here. …
This wonderful guesthouse, run by a local family, is in a great location at the middle of the cliff, 2 mins to the beach. The rooms are super clean, with mosquito nets and hammock outside to relax in the hottest hours. Rooms upstairs are more private but the rooms downstairs are very convenient. Very recommended!
Run by a very friendly family, this place offer quiet, clean and relaxing rooms. It is located just in the middle of the Cliff, two minutes from the beach, one from the busy bar-restaurant and shops area. But what makes it so wonderful is the family who runs it, always ready to help you no matter what time is it and happy to share their family events together with tourists from all nearby guesthouses. A huge cake was distributed among all guests and family members during a birthday party celebrated when I was there. I can sincerely recommend this place for a wonderful stay in Varkala.
