On various levels, up some steps, this little budget hotel packs in rooms from 600 to 1500 rupees a night, for which latter price you can get aircon, a balcony and a large room. The WiFi is good and the restaurant downstairs fronts the main road and is useful if you don’t want to walk far. Papanasam beach with its seafood restaurants and some shops is just a few minutes walk away, on the flat. The manager Shibu is helpful and answers emails. Good value.
I did not stay at Akshay but attended the morning yoga classes with Anoop the resident teacher. I am a yoga teacher myself in the UK with wide experience of different teachers. I can thoroughly recommend these classes. I tried others during my 5 week stay in varkala and these were the best by far. Clear instruction, great flow of postures with a very professional edge. The restaurant also serves great dosa for after class breakfast. Highly recommended by a seasoned traveller of India.
My wife and I really enjoyed it here. This place is situated only a minutes walk from the main beach. Varkala beach has 2 sides, North Cliff and South Cliff. As Akshay is on the southern side it is away from the hustle and has a really relaxed low key feel yet still close to everything . Akshay proved to offer great value and service. The rooms were clean, colorful, roomy and comfortable. Great restaurant, cafe and chill out place to lay back and take it easy. What really made it for us though was the people who work here. Shibu the owner, was so helpful and genuine. We would also like to thank Abijith and Dinu for your flawless service and for being such great colorful beautiful people! ((: We will surely be coming back here. All the very best. Nani and Suprapardum! Haha
Excellent value. Two hundred metres from the beach between the 2 cliffs in Varkala. Clean rooms with excellent cafe attached for breakfast and supper if required. Good location to be in the centre of things in Varkala.
Akshay is on 3 storeys and offers a variety of rooms at different prices. We had a small room that suited our budget, with it's own bathroom and lots of spaces within the guest house to hang out-there was a lovely restaurant on the first terrace, a reception area and sofas in airy communal spaces when it was too hot outside. There was also a small cafe at street level which serves delicious smoothies, pancakes and curries. The room was clean and modern, with colorful rugs and a fan but it was the people and the character of the place that made it such a lovely place to stay. My partner went surfing every day and I did yoga on the roof terrace as the sun came up... (Actually it was in Nov 2015 but couldn't select that as an option :-)
Although we did not stay at the Akshay beach resort, my husband and I visited each day for a beautiful yoga morning with Anoop. He leads sessions from 8-9.30 and 4-5.30 o the roof top of the Akshay and he is wonderful! So calm, gentle and very patient, we came away every day feeling physically and mental fantastic! Even if you don't stay at the Akshay you MUST visit him for yoga! The hotel manager is a lovely man also- always very kind, friendly and helpful in anyway possible. The team there are always cleaning which makes me think that if you stayed here, the rooms would be very clean! There are also delicious smells welcoming you to the restaurant..... Thank you all for being so welcoming! 🙏
I was at Akshay during dec jan 47 days . The plays was clean the restaurant serves very good food. The Staff was very friendly shibu the manager was good end helpful.i Will probobly go there again maby this winter! Akshay Its little like you are one in the family!
Located on the quiet south beach road, you can access Varkala's phenomenal beaches and enjoy the cliff-side amenities for a fraction of the cost. We stayed three days. Although originally slated to be on the cliff-side, we walked back with our backpacks in the heat and were glad with our decision. Akshay's room was clean, much larger than what was available in the cliff-side guesthouses, and the beds were pretty good. Bathroom was also clean. Unlike many other hotels on the cliff and in the south-beach, Akshay had screens on main room windows. No one had mosquito nets, so this was a huge plus for this venue. I did not see the roof-top yoga location, but my partner did and she said it was quite large. We saw several patrons going to the class each morning. Food at the restaurant and juice bar below are okay, but more options exist down the street for your budget or palate. Food is mostly South Indian. Amenities: WIFI (works in room), book exchange, yoga classes, and ayervedic massage. The Ayervedic center may give discounts if you do a multi-day program. If you just need a one-shot massage or such, prices are on-par with what you will find on the hill. Cooking classes available as well. Best part of this resort is the location. Ideally placed on the south beach road mid-way between the Hindu temple and temple road (and cheaper local food/fare) and the south beach (which typically has cheaper food than the main cliff-side). Both a 5 min walk either direction from the hotel door. Main tourist section of the beach (where you will not be eyed as much by the teenage kids walking the beach) is a 10 min walk once you hit the sand. But, unlike the cliff-side resorts, you will not need to walk up the dicey cliff steps. Only drawback is this location: it is not wheelchair accessible. Over-all, one of the best places we stayed in Kerala price per value received. Staff is excellent, soft spoken, and very humble. Definite recommendation for backpackers, but more than excellent for couples and solo travelers.…
Also we were only here for two nights we had a wonderful time at akshay. The room was clean and the price perfect for us budgettraveller. Shibu and Manu were always open for a chat and they kindly allowed us to use the kitchen because we were the only guest at this time. At the last evening we booked a Aryuveda-massage and this really made our stay perfect.
Even though we were here for two nights only (due to only one week of holidays, otherwise we would have def stayed longer!) we felt at home from the very beginning! Shibu and Manu are awesome! They happily take any time just to chat with you. As we were here during off-season and the only guests we were kindly allowed to use the kitchen and their professional advice! ;) We were truly lucky to find this clean, noble hotel for a fantastic price! Thank you Shibu & Manu for our wonderful time!
