Detailed Reviews
Stayed here for 10 nights and we loved the comfy bed and the clean rooms and relaxing balcony.
Great mosquito nets and location is just a tiny walk almost a few steps from the beach and restaurants along the cliff side (we loved hungry eye btw turn right arc the cliff about 200m very cheap great breakfast!)
Asked for our room to be cleaned a few times during stay as this doesn't get down otherwise.
Very friendly and safe area.
Definitely recommend for great value

Enjoyed 3 weeks stay at mbh. Friendly , comfortable and safe. Thank you rani for having me and for having the puppy overnight. I stayed in a pleasant single room for 400 rupees a night. Pretty good value in varkala. Great location . Just a stones throw from the cliff. Just one thing. Pls rani get the green bird a bigger cage.!

I stayed over a week. Rani is a wonderful cook and all her family is very kind. The rooms are clean, pretty and located right next to the path down to the beach.
I really enjoyed the quiet of the place to relax and chill.

I had a very nice stay here. The rooms are clean, and I can highly recommend to have some food here too: much cheaper and I would call it better (yet a little spicy). Her fish curries are truely amazing!

We stayed at mummys 5 nights and we really enjoyed our stay. Location is GREAT, really Close To the cliff Walk.
This is were we felt that we got the most out of our money on the entire 1 mounth trip. Rooms are really clean and nice. I was suprised by the standard (although it is still basic)
Mummy was so friendly and helpful and ger food. OHMYGOD her food. We did a cooking course and I still dream about that meal. On of the best meals in My Life.
Go there, stay there and EAT THERE :)

I stayed at Mummys Bamboo House on two occasions, first upon arrival in Kerala and then I wanted to come back and rest after two weeks ' on the road' . The family Sudhanen takes good care of you, and are always there to assist. Let's say that they make you feel at home. I paid 650 rupees for my single room. And it's good value for that kind of money. My room, on 2nd floor, facing the backside, was not the best room. I'd recommend that you ask for room facing the front.
As someone else wrote, basic bathroom with only cool water, which is perfectly ok. / Magnus

The Mummy bamboo house definitely is a superb place to stay whilst in Varkala. I think that on a three month trip through India and SE Asia, Mummy bamboo house offered the cleanest and most spacious room we've had for the 800R per night (high season). You get a private bathroom (no hot water though, but a cool refreshing shower) and a large balcony, plus a large bed with mosquito net. The guesthouse is owned by a really nice family and 'mummy' often cooks meals for her guests. Free autoricksjah pick-up from the station as well!

Big room (by indian standards) with rather big bathroom and a balconie. No hot water. Wifi is very stable with good internet speed. Owners are really friendly and helpful. Located just a minute's walk from the "beach". The place is pretty quiet, apart from the random loud "gunshot" noises they make to scare off the birds.

We stayed here for a couple of nights and were made to feel like part of the family, our room was very clean and tidy and very spacious and bright! We had a legendary cooking lesson from Rhani which was absolutely spectacular where we made approximately 10 vegetarian dishes and ate off banana leaves, she is such an incredible lady and the food was beyond anything we could have imagined, this place is also very cheap and in a great location for Varkala North Cliff.Thankyou!!!

We just got back from Varkala and spent our first night staying on the Mummy Bamboo "strip" of hotels.
We booked a room in advance but when we arrived were taken to another hotel 3 tightly packed hotels down the "alley" owned by her brother. We are traveling with children so any unforeseen reservation changes (especially when arriving at night) can not be disputed after dark. We were not happy as we had booked to stay at the "Mummy Bamboo", we were told that a driver was picking us up at the train station and dinner would be ready when we arrived (we set all of this up in advance) Not one promise was kept...we were left wondering where our driver was and told to wait at the train , we had no dinner upon arrival (over 5 hour train journey) and the room that we expected was not what we got. I would recommend Mummy Bamboo for folks that want a clean, inexpensive and very basic room to sleep (600 rupees a night). It is not the best spot as the ocean breeze is completely blocked by the tightly packed buildings off the impenetrable cliff shops. The rooms are cheap with working fans and mosquito nets...just don't depend on your reservation!

Sorry, I have only just seen your question. I don't know the answer but I think, according to their website, it would be 950 per night plus 12.5% tax. I think it might also depend on the age of the children.
If you google the name of their hotel, you will see their direct link with the word synthesise in it. Tripadvisor will not allow me to send it to you direct. Sorry.
I shouldt send them an email and ask directly.
Have a good holiday!
I think Mummy Bamboo House might have a spare room on Boxing Day. You would have to go along and negotiate the price yourself. I do know that it is normally 1750 rupees plus tax at this time of the year but you might be lucky if they have a room spare and get it a little cheaper. Good luck!
Dear Amiteswar.
sorry for the late reply .
Thank you for your enquiry . Minimum booking during the High Season (November, December, January & February) is 3 nights
if however you have any further question please do not hesitate to contact us again .
kind regards
Rani Sudhanan
