A beautiful, quiet and peaceful place with comfortable, clean stylish rooms and independent cottages, nicely situated in a tropical garden to relax and enjoy - that is Signature Residence at North Cliff Varkala, Kerala. With a choice of three unique cottages or well appointed hotel rooms, Signature Residence aims to offer you luxurious comfort and security. Only 2 minutes walk from Varkala's stunning Papanasham Cliffs and beach to Signature Residence.
We stayed here over the new year period and overall enjoyed the stay. The room we had was clean with hot water and AC. The balcony was also very comfortable. The hotel however is let down by very poor customer service. When we arrived, as a pre booked group we were told our rooms were not all available and some people would have to move rooms twice! Very frustrating. The hotel offers a laundry service, but when we went to pick our washing up it had not been done (after 3 days). We know this can happen in the best of hotels, but the receptionist lied to us saying the washing was at the laundry when it was still under his desk! We ended up hand washing and saving a few rupees hey ho.

It was not what we expected. Quite often no electricity for the lighting, sometimes not for air condition, sometimes no water, sometimes all of that at once. Will not go into details when there is no water at night and nobody is at reception and you are feeling ill because of....The most disturbing was the water problem. Breakfast in a restaurant at the main walking path along the cliffs. Very basic.

We booked this place without too many expectations, but we even then it managed to disappoint. The location is not too bad, though obviously being on the cliff and with a view would be better, it is just a minutes walk down (an unlit) dirt path to the cliff. We arrived to a little confusion and they apparently didn't have our booking, which we had already paid for. Thankfully the found us a room, though not sure how as they were apparently full. The room was a modest size but no wardrobe to speak of, which was annoying. The view from the room? A construction site; not exactly what we'd hoped for, but we decided not to get hung up on things and go to the beach for the last of the days sun. When we got back, however, we noticed a few more niggling issues. There were holes in the wall, that whilst intended, just let mozzies into the room. We asked for them to be covered but they never were. We were also told that we'd get a plugin repellent but this never transpired. Next we settled down for bed, and found a patch of blood on the sheets which was the size of a football, no idea how we hadn't spotted this earlier. We promptly got the sheets changed (well, given new ones, we had to change them ourselves!), but the new ones had blood on again. So I went back down again and explained. They looked suspiciously at me before changing them again... and you guessed it, more blood. So on the third time they told me it wasn't blood. I asked what it was. They shrugged. Finally they came with a few sheets and changed them for us. These also had small amounts of blood but as they were just a few dots we decided to ignore them and get to sleep! In the morning we discovered the shower was very blocked and promptly flooded the bathroom with black gunk coming up from the plug! Looking at other reviews, I think we got a really bad room here, but still, we went and found much better accommodation on the cliff with a pool for just a little more money.…

Spent quite some time there and my overall experience is very positive. Quiet location, friendly staff, clean rooms, good price/quality ratio. The day I left and when I wanted to pay, there was a problem with my credit card. The staff trusted me to leave and transfer the money later. Very nice!

I booked a luxury bungalow. It was a fair room with a working ac and warm water. The wifi didn't work un the room, only near the reception. The reception is often deserted. The was no cleaning of the room during 4 days, which I find considering the price i paid. The view is not spectacular, in my case a blind wall. The terrace in front of te room is okay, with comfortable chairs. The breakfast you enjoy is 5 minutes walk away, on the cliff. Nice place with friendly staff. They let me stay for free the rest of the day I had to checkout at 12, so I appreciated that. The manager was helpful, when he was there. Ricjshaw drivers arounbd the cormer are agressive and cheat you. Yhet overprize their services and blackmail you into their "fixed price" -> "Well, then you walk to the station with all your liggage", said one them when I wanted to pay the regular fee. Tip: on the cliff-strip (with shops, restaurants and Ayurveda clinics) you van rent spectacular view rooms for modest orices. Try them first before you step in an regular hotel-deal. For 1000 roupies a night you can live like a king (or queen).…

We stay 4 days in this well run resort. The rooms are very spacious and clean and the environment is also very well taken care off. It is located short walk from the cliff, the noise of the restaurants does not disturb, They have their own power generator, so the power breaks do not disturb too much. Wifi is free and well working. When we were there, the pool construction work was going on, but not disturbing us.. The rooms are cleaned everyday. The staff is friendly and helpful and works in professional way, unlike in some other resorts in India.

We booked this hotel in Internet after reading many good reviews. It was a very big disappointment as we arrived there. The room was supposed to have a garden view, but the Garden was under a construction site. Additionlly, it was not a clean place at all. After paying some penalty we cancelled the room and moved to another place. Do not book any room at anywehere in Varakala online, the quality changes everyday! Just go and see everything available and then check in the one you liked the most otherwise you end up paying money for rooms you do not stay...

This hotel got relatively good reviews on TA and its advantage was that it could easily be booked online before our trip. But the actual experience was rather dissapointing. Its courtyard was turned into a construction site, so no nice views from our window, bed sheets and towels were stained. We stayed for two nights and there was no room service, the breakfast in a nearby Apple restaurant was not good at all and left us with upset stomachs. There are certainly nicer places in Varkala for the price we paid in Signature.

We hired a tuk tuk from Varkala village and were actually aiming for somewhere else. The tuk tuk driver decided after a while of looking that rather than backtrack and help us he would stop in the middle of nowhere and chuck us out in the middle of a thunderstorm. We found signature residence and they helped us with our bags, gave us an umbrella and checked us into what they described as "just a hut" for 400INR (as it was near the end of the season). We had an image of a ricketty wooden shack but we had a beautiful room, banana leaf roof, ensuite with a terrace. It was non-ac but the thunderstorm had taken away a lot of the heat. Fantastic service and great value room! 5 minute walk to the front and all the restaurants, shops and spas that Varkala has to offer.
