Monsoon Retreats is situated in the midst of thick cardamom plantation where we had tried to blend Agro cum Ecotourism. Here we desired to spread agricultural awareness along with ecological service. Nights are serene which gives you the real essence of jungle where one sleeps under the lullaby of Cicadas. Ecotourism initiative. Carbon neutral stay. Sustainable and Responsible Tourism for Biodiversity Conservation. Good Birding area. Out of 330 birds at Periyar Tiger Reserve, 80 species including endemics are found at Monsoon Retreats Ecostay.

From the beginning of our arrival, the manager Abhit and one of the staff members, Jobin, took so much care of us, carried our heavy luggages to the cottage. During our stay, they put so much effort to arrange the food we needed, after being sick from food, even took us to town to get some medicine. Mama (mum’s owner) gave us some Ayurvedic medicine to held our stomachs to get better and it was magically effective! We haven’t met the owner but his family and the place proved the owner’s values and his dedication to the conservation of the tropical biodiversity of Kerala. Thank you for this amazing stay.

Excellent place..a true forest stay experience..like a jungle life i.e without tv ac and light.. owner is very friendly and we had delicious veg keralite breakfast and candle light dinner..only 5-6 cottages and owner takes care if any big family has booked already then he won't take booking for remaining 1-2 cottages as to give complete jungle experience and enjoy chirping of birds and other species..

It's time to write up a little long review about Monsoon Retreats Ecostay, Thekkady. That we went in April 2021,as 13members of our family. From welcoming till we check out all the guidance was given by property owner cum wildlife researcher Subish. That was really great and we had special tea made from organic spices taken from same place(Because the stay is inside the Cardomom Field) was just awesome. It is basically a treehouse stay with separate dining hall. It was not a hotel food but we had a nice home cooked breakfast and dinner, it's really really Good try there. Heard and felt the dev drops on nights, if u are a nature lover or planning for a very refreshing stay then you will love the Nature's sound it's a gifted nature stay. And Subish's guidance for sight seeing plans and arrangements was excellent, because we don't know anything in Thekkady before. And here in thekkady if we won't start earlier in the morning we will miss out more things, if we miss the time Subish will watsapp us like "it's time to go bro :)". I didn't see anyone before like this much caring. In our stay we had campfires, barbecues. This is fully a nature based stay with nature sounds. So, definitely it is a must try stay if u are planning for Thekkady Vacation.

As the name suggest it's really an ecostay, resides near to the Kumily town but still you won't feel anyway near by town, such a good ambience and tranquility. The cottages are lifted above almost 12-15 feet above the ground without affecting the ecosystem. Underneath the cottage it's cardamom plantations. Subish the owner of Monsoon Retreats later turned out to be a good friend of mine is a great wildlife enthusiast and a conservationist. I would recon the ecostay those who wants to get rid of their busy lifestyle, take a break blend into the nature and everything slows down & soothe. This is my second visit to the retreats. Malabar whistling thrush make sure to give you a wakeup call in the morning. You might get a chance to see different varieties of birds and amphibians. The cottages are nice and tidy with all the basic amenities. Lovely place. Will visit again.

Just a cute little place to blend yourself right in the forest! We loved our stay here at Monsoon Retreats. The cottages are high above and below all you can see are the cardamon plantations...they grow so many veggies and fruits here and all that makes its way on to our plates. Subish's mom is the most amazing host - her dishes were lip smacking and so homely! She would come around ensure we are all well fed and taken care of. Shibin and Irshad are also hands on running around to make sure we are all ok. Would have loved to have some nice filter coffee :)

An amazing eco stay. We could feel the vibrancy of the plantation n hear chirping of birds. An excellent location enthusiastic host (subhish n his mom both) and tranquility. You can see cardamom plants jack fruits and pepper around your room. Raised construction gives a feel of tree house.

Decent one for a different experience.cannot expect much on facilities. We need to carry everything including towels soap which is usually provided by other hotels or homestay.would rate 4 star for stay alone as it is different experience.facilities could have been bit better .Food is ok for veg.Very simple menu with very limited options.

If you're looking for a value-for-money, close-to-nature accommodation in Thekkady, then look no further than Monsoon Retreats. It is conveniently located near the Elephant Junction and Green Park Spices and just 15 minutes drive from the Periyar Reserve Boating station. Subish, the owner of Monsoon Retreats, is a wild life champion and a conservationist. He has conceived and developed this verdant property from scratch. It consists of five dwellings built on stilts within a spice and fruit plantation. He has planted trees that fruit at different times in the year, so the property abounds in sweetly cooing bird life. Standing on your room verandah, you're floating amongst the leafy canopies, and feel as if you are living in a bird's nest. Being an Eco Stay, the amenities are basic. Yet the sheets are clean, bed is comfy and there's hot water. Surprisingly there were no mosquitoes in our room, thanks to the herbal burning done just prior to our check-in. For a small charge, you can eat homecooked meals at the eco stay. We did the three hours guided Green Walk at the Periyar Tiger Reserve. Besides the Malabar giant squirrel, barking deer and seventeen types of birds, we also spotted a pair of Nilgiri Maartens, which we were told (by the local tribesman guide) to be a rare sighting. This three hours Guided Walk turned out to be the highlight of our Kerala Holiday. Subish, Thank you so much for recommending this walk! And wish you all the best in your endeavours to create a "Zero Footprint Eco Stay"!
