Monsoon Retreats is situated in the midst of thick cardamom plantation where we had tried to blend Agro cum Ecotourism. Here we desired to spread agricultural awareness along with ecological service. Nights are serene which gives you the real essence of jungle where one sleeps under the lullaby of Cicadas. Ecotourism initiative. Carbon neutral stay. Sustainable and Responsible Tourism for Biodiversity Conservation. Good Birding area. Out of 330 birds at Periyar Tiger Reserve, 80 species including endemics are found at Monsoon Retreats Ecostay.
I had an absolutely amazing experience staying at Monsoon Retreats Ecostay. Nestled in the middle of a serene cardamom plantation, the treehouse gave me a perfect blend of nature and tranquility. Waking up to the sounds of birds chirping and being surrounded by lush greenery was truly magical. The hosts were incredibly warm and welcoming, making sure we were comfortable throughout our stay. The treehouse itself was well-maintained, cozy, and offered stunning views of the natural beauty all around. If you're looking for a peaceful escape in Thekkady with a unique connection to nature, this place is a must-visit.

We walked into this place feeling surreal. Although situated in Kumily town, Monsoon Retreat is truly an Eco stay surrounded by lush green and elevated cottages to mirror tree houses preserving the flora and fauna of the place. The steps to the cottages are a bit steep and can be a challenge for aged people.
As a sustainable enterprise, they provided us with essential amenities and delicious food. This is a place for nature enthusiasts and not for someone seeking luxury. The bathroom was clean, and the rooms were spacious, accommodating 3 pax. We have to let them know in advance regarding the time and choice of menu for our meal inorder for them to serve us hot. The staff Mr. Murali and his team were kind and helpful. The owner Mr. Subish, a wildlife conservationist, took care of all our needs from welcoming us till our departure. We had messaged him before we actually made the booking and he was very helpful in clarifying our doubts and letting us know how to plan our other activities.
The location is close to Periyar Tiger Reserve hence an ideal place to stay for those planning on adventurous activities. This is a place for those seeking out peace and harmony from our otherwise monotonous routine.

Blended with Nature, amazing experience this is the first time I have enjoyed and learned about nature /ecotourism during vacation stay.
Day 1 is completely disappointed due to heavy rain during Jeep safari made a quick decision to cut the safari and checked in to Monsoon Retreat Ecostay- this is the wonderful decision which I would not regret at all. Lot of birds around the property it’s a must visit for people who want to connect with nature/Birds.
Day2 Happened to meet Subish (property owner) who has deep knowledge and passion on eco and nature. Spent next 3 hours with him along with my family he was very happy to explain basics of ecotourism and purpose and value he adds back to the nature through his work. Anyways he tolerated all our nonsense questions being a beginners:).
Subish accompanied us for a nature walk to the Elephant ride nearby and explained all the Birds nearby and we happened to learn birds name Malabar whistling thrush, Malabar Horn Bill and Racket tailed Black Drango. Definitely this is not big but he left something in us especially with my Kid.
All the arrangement are made by Subish including Safari, Kalari show (in front row) and Customized sightseeing with comfortable ride, All this in very budget friendly way. Again, big shoutout to Subish.
Tips : While staying please make sure to get connect with Subish.
When Birds Sing, they make our hearts happy and soul's smile.

We had such a relaxing and restful time at the Ecostay. The host, is prompt with replying when booking and if you need anything. The manager Sree Laksmi and staff Abhrami and Sabin are all top notch were all so pleasant to be around, made the most amazing food... and brought chai anytime we wanted. We drink a lot of chai! Haha. The 2 women even made pencil drawing of my husband and me! Omg... What a special thing to have done! We will cherish it forever! ALSO NOTE, you're staying here bc you want to be around nature and in the middle of the jungle. That said, you can call for a tuktuk/auto and it's a short/affordable ride into town to explore. You can also walk the back roads for some additional exercise and fresh air to the "elephant junction" only 1km away as well.

Beautiful homestay in an amazing location with best services, definitely recommend. The rooms were very well maintained and washrooms, hygienic. Food was very tasty and they ensured they check with us on our food needs before the food time. The proprietor being a wildlife conservationist had a great knowledge on the places around thekkady and he ensured we had a great time for a day's time we had to spend in thekkady. He provided the best suggestions to make our stay worthwhile. Must visit property.

We stayed in one of 5 tree houses in this family run small friendly homestay The setting in the forest was lovely and we very much enjoyed sitting on our balcony watching and listening to the birds and soaking in the atmosphere. The room was comfortable and a good size, and the home cooked meals were delicious. The family and staff were very welcoming and attentive. This place is reasonably priced in a lovely setting and also within easy distance of Pereiya National Park. We can thoroughly recommend it. Just needs a couple of improvements. Hot water needs to be more reliable, we had cold showers and whilst we support your ecotourist philosophy, toilet paper is needed for western tourists. Thank you for a great stay

We met Subeesh through our yoga teacher who regularly stays there. Our stay (too short!!) was perfect: his knowledge of frogs is amazing. We also took a cruise (a little too touristy for my taste) and especially a walk where Subeesh introduced us to many birds. We had the chance to observe the rare "malabar drogon", endemic to the region. Thanks again!!

The best place to have an adventurous weekend with family and friends. Thanks to Subish and Monsoon retreat team, our stay and visit in Thekady was mind blowing. The place is fully covered with different types of plants cardamom, bamboo, orchids, papaya etc. And we were staying among this wonderland in tree house which made our stay more beautiful. Home made food was served hot and their appam, panneer curry was our favorite thanks to Murali and team for taking care of food.
The trip was unplanned at the last moment, but we came back with lots of memories. Subish helped in planing out our visit starting from elephant safari to mountain views, waterfall, tea plantation and kerala's famous cultural arts kalaripayatu.

A great find in the middle of a beautiful Cardamon plantation. Subish was a wonderful and very informative and helpful host - his mother was also an excellent cook. The tree house we stayed in had a lovely balcony surrounded by beautiful plants and exciting bird sounds. Very close to Thekkady, and Subish pointed us in all the right directions for getting the most out of our all-too-short stay. The bedroom and bathroom were excellent, as were the delicious breakfasts and one evening meal. Thoroughly recommended
