We stayed at Chrissies for one night during our visit to the Periyar Forest Reserve. It is a great location amid lush greenery and no disturbance despite being just a short walk to the main market area. The most amazing thing was the art work all over including our rooms which gave it a very aesthetic look. The service was courteous and friendly. The breakfast although modest was really tasty. We loved the homemade Jam and fruit preserve. The only thing we probably missed was a ceiling fan and the electric kettle in the room. Great place to stay in Thekkady for nature lovers at a very good price.
Chrissie's Hotel is right out of a fairy tale. The flora and fauna around, mesmerizes you. It is like living in an enchanted forest. Every nook and corner is a different shade of happiness and art. The rooms were clean with the promised facilities. The balcony is to die for, overlooking the garden. It has an amazing pool with a rooftop experience. Evening time you will witness notorious monkey and mosquitoes, and the staff very carefully warns you beforehand. But beyond 7pm, you can carelessly loiter around. The breakfast though simple is a fulfilling spread. Staff is courteous and attentive. They do not have lunch/ dinner options, but there are plenty of options nearby. The walk from the reception to the rooms might be tricky for old and disabled, but for us it was a pure bliss. When people around the world come together to paint their imagination, you know the place is totally worth it.…
Highly recommended this property + Great location among trees and a short walk from the main city . A relaxing place, spacious and very clean room. The balcony was perfect for enjoying the greenery. I recommend the hotel closed eyes. - Nothing. plan to visit again soon
This lovely hotel is a block from the little town of Kumily. The rooms are clean, comfortable and well designed. Each has a balcony looking out into the garden area. There is a rooftop pool and a shaded sitting area. The restaurant is excellent. The breakfast is exceptional. Adel, the owner, is so nice and welcoming with great advise about local activities. Be careful though. It is so nice you don’t want to leave and the likely purpose of your visit is to go trekking in the nearby park!
This is a gem not to be missed. A quiet retreat set in a beautiful garden filled with wildlife and greenery. The welcome by the owner/manager Adel sets the stage for a respite from travel for the visitor. Greeted with a warm cup of tea or coffee...or cool lemon juice, Adel made us feel at home immediately. The accommodations were clean and welcoming. We spent hours on our porch just enjoying ourselves and watching the monkeys at play. The views from the top floor are not to be missed. The pool and yoga room were inviting. Location is right outside Periyar National Park. Breakfast was delicious. The staff was kind and helpful. The price was extremely reasonable. I would have been willing to spend more. I cannot say enough. I only wish I could have spent more time there.
Chrissies was just lovely. The owner and his staff were so friendly and accommodating, we couldn't have asked for more. He personally took us to our room, which was probably the nicest, cleanest and cosiest room we had stayed in during our whole trip. Beautifully decorated with a lovely balcony and lush surroundings. He was always around to offer advice and help with making bookings and when we decided to leave a day early he even refunded us, which was above and beyond what we'd expected. We were greeted with smiles and a friendly chat every day and even invited to join him and selected guests for a new year's eve celebration on the roof. If I ever went back to Thekkady, I wouldn't stay anywhere else. We absolutely loved it.
The owner/manager (Adel) and his team are what make Chrissie's special.... I've never had such a warm welcome on arrival..... the exceptional hospitality continued throughout our two day stay. Adel is clearly someone that thoroughly enjoys the hospitality business and strives to do everything to make his guests happy. The rooms are set well back from the entrance and up many flights of stairs (the staff carried all our bags so that was no issue). Our room was on the first floor with a large balcony with comfortable chairs. The room was a good size with space to spread things around. (There was a damp smell in our room, so I would request a room on the third floor if available, I'm assuming they may not have that smell). The balcony was great to sit and chill out, looking onto the lush vegetation and tree's. We took the three hour jeep safari suggested by the hotel which we really enjoyed and would recommend. Adel also arranged tickets for the local martial arts show, which should not be missed, fabulous show. Breakfast is quite a feast, geared towards western tastes with a huge selection of homemade products. Sourdough, jams, mozzarella cheese and the most delicious peanut butter, etc. etc...... local Keraka dishes also available. All laid out buffet style with as much coffee and tea as you want. They have people volunteering from around the world which gives Chrissie's a wonderful upmarket hostel feel to the place. (Particular mention of Yuri, who was so enthusiastic in explaining all the homemade delights at breakfast as an example of this). The housekeeper was also a lovely lady, always smiling and so friendly. I had some laundry done which came back all folded and buttoned up at such a reasonable price.... Daily newspapers are supplied and free filtered water, nice touches... In summary, Adel and his team are what makes it special and create a large family feeling to the place where everyone is equal. Such a warm welcome everytime you walk back in the door.…
Everything about the place is calm beautiful and welcoming. From our balcony we saw monkeys and a large squirrel. The home made peanut butter at breakfast is the best in the world! (Slight exaggeration but deserves the big up) .
There are many merits to Chrissie's hotel- it's quiet location (that's near to periyar park), it's beautiful interior and exterior design, the value for money ot gives..but there is one thing that sticks above it all-and it's the highest level of hospitality we've met. My wife and I came on our honeymoon, quite battered after a few harsh days in Kodaikanal. Adel- the place's owner, gave us immediately the feeling that things are about to change. He was so attentive to our needs: On our second day in Thekkady, my wife got sick. As soon as adel's heard of it- he sent us a flask of tea and electrolites. Afterwards he understood that it's our honeymoon- and asked his lovely spouse to bake us a cake, and even upgraded our room. We were left speechless. Every person in the staff was the nicest and most professional, and it just made our days here better than we could ever imagine. Great yoga practices led by Kristen, wonderful garden.. really. Simply come .…
Chrissie’s Hotel is a wonderful choice for stay. It is rare to find a place that pays so much attention to its’ guests needs. Adel, the place’s manager, is really the sweetest and most helpful man one could ask for. There are great yoga classes, led by Christine, available twice a day. There is a beautiful garden ,that totally gives you some fresh air to breath in the somewhat rustic kumily
