Hotel: What an excellent 2 nights stay at Wildernest! I stayed during the weekdays, so the hotel was not so busy. The hustle and bustle of the main road didn't concern me as it was quiet and serene inside. There is a small space where they serve English breakfast on a chargeable basis. It was an ideal space for me to work. No restaurant inside the B&B but tea/coffee are available on request. The hotel has a parking facility, right outside the main gate. Room: The well-appointed room was clean and comfortable with its own private balcony on the first floor. Hot water was available. The architecture of the room was beautiful and antique with rocks stacked in walls. I feel the mattress could have been comfier and not firm. Rest everything was excellent. Staff: The staff is friendly with detailed knowledge of local tours. We learnt a lot about the local tradition in warm conversations with Manager Mr. Rollin and another person (I forgot his name) who was always there. They went over and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. Location: The hotel is conveniently located. Periyar Forest Entrance (bus stop) and information centres are just a few minutes walk away. There are plenty of restaurants, shops and Ayurveda centers within 2-3 mins walk. Internet: Free wifi is available. Also, I was getting a good network speed on my Airtel and Vodafone cards. To conclude, highly recommended hotel in Thekkady! Surely I will come back soon with my family! :) …
I am a birder and came to visit Periyar Tiger Reserve in search of the Wynaad laughingthrush with my guide Danish Trogon. For the night stay, he brought me to this property. Frontage of the hotel and the way the name board was finished in wood mesmerized me. I realized at once that this hotel will turn out to be DIFFERENT! The lobby was well laid out and uncluttered and the walls were adorned with bird pictures and paintings, making it perfectly suited for the sensibilities of birders. The courtyard of the hotel and the rooms have been very creatively designed, giving them a very natural feel. Rooms are spacious and very well maintained. The window sill provides the best place to sit around! Each room has a private terrace also. Staff well groomed and very courteous.. A very enjoyable experience, staying here.. A number of ideas can be borrowed from here for use elsewhere! 😄…
We loved our 3 nights stay at Wildernest, everything a b and b should be, and you can get tea/ coffee cake and drinks almost anytime. The staff are friendly, helpful, on reception ( and it's adjacent kitchen) all the time, and will give advice / help on most things. Just 5 mins in one direction from the park experience bookings office, and 5 minutes other direction to entrance, Wildernest has perfect location. Rooms are quiet, very clean, simply furnished and spacious. We had own balcony, but used communal one above reception ( with tables and chairs), but watch out for monkeys! Breakfast good, juice, drinks, omelette and fruit. Their plum fruit cake available all day, unless it runs out, if you want midday/ afternoon treat. Few minutes walk to the many shops and restaurants of kumily. Excellent and really good value, only about 10 rooms, so book early.…
What a great 3 night stay we had in a lovely double height room with its own balcony. Breakfast and available snacks are superb, there is no restaurant here but plenty within 5-10 mins walk. Wildernest overlooks the periyar park but is convenient for town too. We can't fault it. The staff are friendly and efficient - working under Rollin, an excellent manager. The rooms are clean, stylishly though simply furnished (comfortable), and quiet. Garden and communal balcony are pretty and the breakfast area shady and cool. What more could you want? Only 10 rooms but it's a real gem.
The Wildernest has maintained its high standards since the last time we stayed there. All of our party were extremely pleased with the standard of accommodation, the breakfasts and most of all the care and consideration of all of the staff. As it happens, that was the thing we needed the most. They, all of them, went way beyond our expectations in looking after all of our group and we were extremely grateful to them for that. We will, when we can, come back to stay again and to say once more 'thank you'.
Wildernest is really true to its name. While the location walking distance to the market street of Thekkady-Kumily, it is right across the road from Periyar National park. You can see the bamboo thickets in the national park from your room. Our room was on a higher level, and was quite private because it was the only room on that level, accessible by separate stairs. There was a lot of open space outside the room, and our room also had a private balcony on the 2nd floor. The staff was extremely friendly, and helped us plan our day in Thekkady so that we didn't waste a single minute. The ambience of the place overall is also very warm and welcoming and will be especially appealing to people who enjoy wildlife and natural beauty. It is the perfect little place with no frills, which totally delivers on what it promises. On the downside - there is no restaurant on-site, but there are quite a few hotels nearby which serve good food.…
Wilderness was great! Spacious room with wide windows, easy to watch monkeys play right outside. Breakfast was included, it was croissanys, omelet, fruits, toast and juice. Oh, and great coffee for once. Staff was helpful with everything, location was good. Easy to go around from here, park entrance is at walking distance. Here was our first shower in India after 2 weeks. Travelled with kids 4 and 11yrs, area feels safe and easy going.
Wildernest is gem of a place, very understated but with a simple elegance. There are no frills or flounces but what they do have, is clean, neat and aesthetically pleasing. We loved the tea, warm fruit cake and croissants, so welcome after a long trek in the jungle! The rooms are huge, beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean. You need to let the tap run a bit before the hot water reaches. But when it does, the shower is great! Doubly great, after a day spent in the jungle. Wifi works well. All in all, I’d rate Wildernest as the best value for money at Thekkady/Kumily.
Good sized room with basic amenities. Very different ambiance as compared to other hotels, very good breakfast served in a homely atmosphere. The excellent banana jam served at breakfast deserves special mention.
We stayed here for just two nights and were very pleased with the accommodation. We had an upper floor room that was huge with a comfortable bed and adequate storage. (We didn't find a safe in our room though it states that there are room safes above). Loved the staircase upto our private balcony but it would be nice to have a couple of chairs as well as the stone bench. Bathroom large and efficient and all kept very clean. Another lovely feature was the huge windows which are well designed to allow fresh air in and keep insects out! The central position is excellent and we enjoyed being able to walk out to restaurants, shops and into greener areas quickly and easily. Breakfast is simple but good except that we really would have liked more fruit - the portion was frankly tiny! The staff are lovely and always ready with your key and to make a coffee. They were not as able to give ideas for restaurants and places to visit as the website suggests but that is only a minor criticism and we would certainly stay here again and strongly recommend.…
