a small hotel which is converted from an ancient bungalow. for the antique lovers, the room decor should be a treat with old style furniture and bed. however, the hotel staff was ill trained . they made great attempts at providing service but the training was lacking. the restaurant staff in particular was found wanting at all the occasions I dined in the same. the location bang opposite the beach is definitely a plus

Large spacious rooms and bathrooms.. Could have been a larger capacity A/c as it barely cools the room.. Attached bar is quite reasonable.. The price is the same irrespective of single occupancy / double occupancy and is rather steep..

We had visited their open bar which is nearer to the beach. Rates are reasonable and they served various dishes. Good getaway for family, couples and friends.

I did not stay or used any other facilities other than their open bar which is good.

We visited the hotel while staying elsewhere in town, and decided we would stay for one night at the end of our holiday. The room we were shown was appealing, and the main areas of the hotel were attractive.
When we arrived, we were initially pleased with the room. The hotel leaflet stated that there were tea and coffee making facilities in the room. This was not so, and when we went to the restaurant for tea, although we were the only people there they were unable to correctly serve tea and cold milk. The leaflet also promised 24 hour room service, so as we were departing too early for the included breakfast we asked the night before if we could have coffee, but this was refused.
The room on the whole was clean, but the floor was filthy, impossible to walk barefoot anywhere.
During the night a gadget on the ceiling (smoke alarm?) bleeped loudly every few minutes making decent sleep impossible. The lamp shade by the bed had burnt onto the bulb, looking awful - so cheap to replace.
As someone else has said, drinkers seem to be the main business for this hotel, and there were characters wandering around looking as though they'd had more than a few!
The tables set out on the lawn in the evening we also full of people drinking, but we were given attentive service, and served quite good food.
We had really wanted to like this hotel, but they do need to improve things, and also staff attitudes - such as the security man who would not let our taxi stop at the door, and made us walk across an empty car park with our luggage, and the receptionist who came on duty after we'd arrived, and challenged us as we walked to our room.

In a line - fabulous location but extremely underwhelming!

Bang opposite the Kozhikode beach, there couldn't be a better location for a Hotel. The hotel is a heritage property with large spacious rooms, tall ceilings and the room I stayed in had this massive balcony overlooking the sea.

All this should ideally have translated into a fabulous experience but the feeling I had was actually quite the opposite.

The lamp shades in the room were absolutely worn out and dirty. The table clothes were in a similar condition of decrepitude. The lighting was white fluorescent CFL'S that were inadequate to light up the room and added to the overall gloominess of the place.

The Hotel has a bar that seemed to harbour some rather unsavoury characters. Though we never had any issues with drunkards making a scene or noise it did contribute to further dimming our view of the place.

Breakfast was thankfully good - the restaurant did not have a buffet but the pootu kadala and puri bhaji helped redeem some points!

The staff was friendly and helpful. Room service was quick though we had to route our orders through the reception as there did not seem to be anyone attending the Room Service numbers.

One of the ladies informed me that the Hotel was undergoing some renovation. Until then I would recommend this place only to Heritage buffs.

Had been put off this place by earlier reviews but came to look anyway and stayed three nights mid-Nov 2014. Rooms have been recently repainted/renovated/new bathrooms, curtains. bed-linen. Had very comfortable stay in room 106, the only upstairs room with a/c. Fabulous history Raj-era feel if that's what you're after. Didn't see a woman apart from myself for the duration - and the men-only beer-drinking evening thing on the lawn is very odd - but I just avoided that and felt fine/safe. Beach road is noisy during day but quiet at night. Food good in hotel, little dairy shop 100m to the left of main entrance does good chai from 7am, great for people-watching. Very happy to have beach front for early morning exercise. Best location in town I reckon. Note - there's been a long-running issue with internet (I had no response to many emails) so call if no reply to web contact.

Hotel location was great, near the beach. Hotel itself was ok - rooms were of a good size and had character but there was no hot water.
Staff were helpful.
There are only about 6 rooms as I got the impression it is more of a location for external clientele to go and drink/eat.
I would not recommend this place for families.

This beautiful hotel has an incredible location: by the beach and very close to the train station. The rooms are gorgeous, with high foot ceilings and period furniture. Bathroom is spacious. The staff is very helpful. The only drawback, for a woman solo traveller as myself, is the beer garden. They have a beer garden at night with a lot of men that frequent it. You will be gawked at and feel uncomfortable. But I highly recommend it for male travelers and families.

Positives:

Evenings are fun near this place, lot of things happening
Lot of eateries around
huge rooms
nice beds

Negatives
Bathrooms needs a facelift
hotel water takes ages
water pressure too low
ac is 50-50...works and does not work
staff - very friendly not very professions
difficult to get a bottle of water in the night if we ask
cleanliness can improve
torn mosquito nets
poor value for money, breakfast was not ready till 830 in the morning.
Internet is hit or a miss
