At an uncertain time, when a couple of COVID-19 cases had just been announced in the Kottayam area, Mathai was a very comforting host. Fenn Hall is quiet, elegant and a bit of a haven from the traffic of Kottayam. There are places to sit and read, clean and well-furnished period-feel rooms and although food is not officially provided on site, Mathai was able to provide us with a tasty home-cooked Keralan meal, and there are numerous options nearby from which food can be delivered. Morning breakfasts or other meals can easily be had at restaurants no more than 5-10 minutes walk away, in any case. Mathai is a very amiable and helpful host who can provide lots of information and advice and was also able to organise a taxi for us to move on, at a time when foreigners were looked on with an element of suspicion. I would not hesitate recommending Fenn Hall to anyone.…
A beautiful house. Very good atmosphere and very calm and cool place. Really I like it very much. Looking great and awesome. Nice ambiance. Superb exterior. Room is also good. But toilet is too small one.
We‘re a couple and we stayed at Fenn Hall Homestay for 3 nights and we had an excellent time! We were welcomed heartily by the staff and the owner Mathai Fenn. The room was beautiful furnished and very clean. The whole house makes you feel welcome, comfortable and home. We enjoyed our stay and the interesting talks in the dining room where the guest and the owners family can spend their meals together or have a cup of tea. If you need any information about trains, restaurants or what to do and visit in Kottayam the staff and Mr. Fenn can answer your questions. We would absolutely recommend a stay at Fenn Hall! Excellent ambience Privacy AC Rooms. Spacious and lot of place to move with gallery . Only thing that have to go out for breakfast and room not cleaned on daily basis. Cooperative staff and owner always ready to accept suggestions for improvement . Not far from Railway station. Approachable to road . Overall nice place to stay single and best for stay with family rather than to stay in hotel.
Fenn Hall home stay is a pretty old aristocratic family property presently maintained by a caretaker. I visited the place a few months back. The rooms that were given to us was at the ground floor, almost facing the backside of the home, though many rooms were available inside the house which appears to be well maintained and hardly any body was staying there, the room provided for me was not good. The care taker was a lady who was helpful, though not much seen around after dusk, but would be available over phone. The pros for the house is that it has still maintained its antiquity and looks good. The location of the home is almost in the town, hence access is there in auto or taxi. The cons that i noticed in my room is that it was not well maintained, the mattress plastic cover was not removed. Neither a good bed spread was used, a pretty old linen was used to cover the mattress. The wash room is too small that you cant even turn around inside, your body will touch the commode or the washbasin which is less than a feet distance, which makes a hygiene conscious person like me a little difficult to take a shower. Though it is a home stay, home made food is not provided. The care taker will order and deliver from outside hotels which sometimes does not appeal to a visitors taste buds who has come all the way for a homely experience. The room service is average.…
The place looked great, and my interactions with the owner Jessy was good, so I didn't think twice about booking this place for a day for our stay in Kottayam. We wanted the entire place, but that wasn't available. The place is near the town, easily accessible - yet in a quiet nook. There's a house keeper during the day, and also a person to help with cleaning. Big room, clean, high ceilings and well ventilated. The architecture and the place is kept true to its origins, and is good to experience.
This homestay was great. A very nice home and a lovely family who introduced me to the area, took time to chat and was extremely helpful. Through them, I saw sights in Kottayam, I would probably not have found on my own. Also, I had interesting conversations that helped me to understand the area better. I highly recommend this place, also to solo female travellers.
If you're looking for a homestay, this is the best place to stay in Kottayam. We had breakfast with the family in the morning. From washing machine, hair dryer to iron, we got all facilities. Since we were three girls arriving late at night, Dr. Jessy sent her son to pick us up. Even the next day she suggested us places to look around and helped us with our planning. Had a homely experience. Lovely family!
