The first time I stayed here it was a in 2008 and it was a great change of pace from the hustle and bustle of Mumbai. I really didn't care about wi-fi or service, although the service was great by Anusha and Thomason and their beautiful children. They were hospitable and booked tours and protected my belongings. In other words we established a relationship based on trust. Attached to the homestay was a bakery straight out of Paris or Tribeca in New York City. I would go and sip Chai to the murmur of the ceiling fans over the clean atmosphere. By 2010 "aka" my second visit this shop was gone. Anusha and Thomasin were also out as Fort Inn Homestay managers. The cafe shop was converted into a humid extra homestay room and 3 women were attending the hostel where I intended to stay for about 10 days. After paying for 3 days to one of the women at the desk in the morning. I went out on my daily routine as a photographer. When I returned I was asked by one of the other women to pay 3100 rupees. When I mentioned I paid. There was no record of anything and the woman that I paid mysteriously could not be found to clear this up. After paying the amount I packed my things and left to find a more professional place. The trust was broken. They wanted to lower the price but I refused since I could not trust them with little things, I did not assume that I could trust them with my expensive equipment when I was not around. I haven't been back for any reason.

Oh where do I start on describing my experience at the Fort Kochi Inn? The first night we stayed there, it was booked through Eco Trails Kerala which cost us 3000/rupees a night. At first glance, the rooms were clean, the building had a certain charm and Leena seemed friendly. Then, we decided to extend our stay a second night as we were tired from travelling. We asked Leena about the package on the website that included meals and she told us that she could give it to us for 2,500 rupees a night inclusive of everything (all the meals). We thought we were golden as we were travelling on a budget and couldn't afford to eat at the overpriced establishments around Kochi. Turns out that Leena was a great cook, which we highly appreciated. To show our gratitude, we even purchase Kathakali tickets from her (which obviously gives her a commission) on the advice of a previous reviewer who mentioned that she might get a bit miffed if you didn't purchase them from her. Anyways, all is well until the last day. As agreed on the price we owed her 2,500 rupees/night + 1,100 rupees for the taxi we booked through her (obviously another source of commission). I paid her the sum of money we agreed on but she argued and went back on her word by saying that we owed her 800 rupees a day extra for food. We refused to pay the extra money we didn't owe her and had to urgently leave for the airport. She quickly told the taxi driver in Malayalam that we had not paid for the taxi fare so that she could take a cut out of our expenses. Needless to say, when we reached the airport, the driver demanded us to pay for the fare which we had already paid through Leena. The police were quickly called in to resolve the money dispute all while we were trying to check in for a domestic flight which was leaving within the hour. We were highly stressed and furthermore we had to deal with the police. I had to give Leena a call and she repeatedly screamed at me saying I was not welcome anymore. We explained our side of the story to the police and they also listened to hers. Finally, I gave in and said I would split the alleged taxi fare with Leena (550 rupees) to make it fair. Of course she adamantly refused which influenced the airport authority to side with us. That was the biggest sigh of relief we ever took. Our experience with Leena was so bad that we vow never visit Kochi again.

There are a lot of BnB/ Homestays in Fort Kochi but why I liked Fort Inn was because of its old dutch feel and the wooden work. The place has a character to it. As mentioned in other reviews too the lady Leena is very nice. She went out of her ways to help me since I was travelling alone. Adding, Leena is a manager who lives with her family in one room. Food has to be ordered before hand if you plan to eat at the stay. The rooms are above basic in cleanliness. Hot water comes. TV and AC in rooms. Washrooms can be improved. Same amenities in the main market will be priced much higher. A very good deal in my budget. Good deal in budget.

I had a good time staying in fort inn , the hosts are really helpful and makes you feel at home . Leena and robin and their son were really charming. Good option to stay in fort kochi . Rooms are really spacious and good decor. Try opting for the balcony rooms.

Leena is splendid! She exemplifies all that is beautiful about the people of Kerela. This very modest Inn has sizable bedrooms with much needed air conditioning as it was extremely hot and humid when we visited Fort Kochi. At times the wifi was fast and at other times fitful. The beds are comfortable and the place is clean but the whole place is very basic at best.
