This cute little homestay is in an excellent location with a nice upstairs balcony to watch over the street below. The rooms are quite large and basic with A/C, TV and wi-fi. They are quite dark but that makes for a deep sleep! Overall, it's very good value ...however, the main reason to stay here is the wonderful Linda who will provide delicious authentic South Indian breakfasts and who will take excellent care of you. Her husband and sons are also extremely nice and willing to help out if needed. It's like staying with family or friends and a very friendly atmosphere has been created for guests to mingle or to have privacy if preferred.
This is a very well run homestay with a warm and friendly atmosphere where you'll feel welcome, safe and well cared for. Thanks so much, Linda, Thomas & boys.

There are a lot of BnB/ Homestays in Fort Kochi but why I liked Fort Inn was because of its old dutch feel and the wooden work. The place has a character to it. As mentioned in other reviews too the lady Leena is very nice. She went out of her ways to help me since I was travelling alone.
Adding, Leena is a manager who lives with her family in one room. Food has to be ordered before hand if you plan to eat at the stay.
The rooms are above basic in cleanliness. Hot water comes. TV and AC in rooms.
Washrooms can be improved.
Same amenities in the main market will be priced much higher. A very good deal in my budget.
Good deal in budget.

This was my second stay at the Fort Inn, and I found it just as welcoming as the first time two years ago. Linda, the manager is quite a character, firm but fair and I really felt like she looked after me like my Indian Mother! The rooms are clean, showers are good, and the breakfast is great value at 75 rupees for toast, eggs and chai/coffee. Thank you Linda!

Oh where do I start on describing my experience at the Fort Kochi Inn? The first night we stayed there, it was booked through Eco Trails Kerala which cost us 3000/rupees a night. At first glance, the rooms were clean, the building had a certain charm and Leena seemed friendly. Then, we decided to extend our stay a second night as we were tired from travelling. We asked Leena about the package on the website that included meals and she told us that she could give it to us for 2,500 rupees a night inclusive of everything (all the meals). We thought we were golden as we were travelling on a budget and couldn't afford to eat at the overpriced establishments around Kochi.

Turns out that Leena was a great cook, which we highly appreciated. To show our gratitude, we even purchase Kathakali tickets from her (which obviously gives her a commission) on the advice of a previous reviewer who mentioned that she might get a bit miffed if you didn't purchase them from her.

Anyways, all is well until the last day. As agreed on the price we owed her 2,500 rupees/night + 1,100 rupees for the taxi we booked through her (obviously another source of commission). I paid her the sum of money we agreed on but she argued and went back on her word by saying that we owed her 800 rupees a day extra for food. We refused to pay the extra money we didn't owe her and had to urgently leave for the airport. She quickly told the taxi driver in Malayalam that we had not paid for the taxi fare so that she could take a cut out of our expenses.

Needless to say, when we reached the airport, the driver demanded us to pay for the fare which we had already paid through Leena. The police were quickly called in to resolve the money dispute all while we were trying to check in for a domestic flight which was leaving within the hour. We were highly stressed and furthermore we had to deal with the police. I had to give Leena a call and she repeatedly screamed at me saying I was not welcome anymore. We explained our side of the story to the police and they also listened to hers. Finally, I gave in and said I would split the alleged taxi fare with Leena (550 rupees) to make it fair. Of course she adamantly refused which influenced the airport authority to side with us. That was the biggest sigh of relief we ever took.

Our experience with Leena was so bad that we vow never visit Kochi again.

I had a good time staying in fort inn , the hosts are really helpful and makes you feel at home . Leena and robin and their son were really charming. Good option to stay in fort kochi . Rooms are really spacious and good decor. Try opting for the balcony rooms.

Totally disgusted home-stay. I was there for 2 nights and it was the worse home-stay I have ever been: We paid 1.500 rupees for a A/C double room and a few more amenities, and what we had was: no hot water during our 2 days stay, continuous power cuts and even when the power was back, the A/C didn't work. Internet doesn't work...sometimes down in the lobby but NEVER in the room. Breakfast was poor and served in a dirty table: 1 egg,1 toast and tea...that's it. They arrange the transportation for us to go to the airport and they messed up with the time, so we had a crazy careless driver (don't book transportation with them, since you get the same price out with a licensed high quality taxi).
Overall, I didn't enjoy our stay at all...It was very dirty, and they don't clean the rooms or change linens/towels either. Don't get fooled, there are hundred of home-stays in Fort Cochin way way better.

We enjoyed our stay at Fort Inn Cochin- The room was clean with icy cold A/C, and furnished with care.
Great location, close to restaurants, fish markets and waterfront. We received a very warm welcome on arrival, icy cold lemonade and cool hand towels, and were very happy with the service we received.
The owner even invited us to his home for dinner- a highlight of our stay in Kerala. We recommend Fort Inn to any travelers looking for good value and friendly surrounds.

After reading some of the good reviews on Trip Advisor we have to question if they were reviewing the same place.

We were very disappointed with the accommocation that was poor on cleanliness and very dingy. The room was over furnished with 3 beds when there was only room for two, linen and towels were grubby and sheets not even ironed. There was no hot water to the shower. To compound it all there was a calender for 2007 on display in January 2009 and certainly no sign of a bakery next door that other reviews have mentioned.

We stayd in Fort Inn Homestay in Kochin in Feb 08. We saw it walking past, went in and asked to look at some rooms, and liked it so much we stayed for six nights. The hotel is probably the most immaculately-kept place I've stayed in , a gorgeous dutch heritage house, and has been recently refurbished. The rooms are beautiful, timber panelling everywhere, and two have little balconies that look down onto the street. The location's good, particularly for the ferry wharf to Ernakulam, but it's also JUST far enough away from the centre of the town to be quiet and peaceful.

What really sets it apart though are the staff - the owners and workers treated us like close friends, and even had their friends show us around town a little. They're full of great information and suggestions about Kochin that you won't find in a guidebook, and offer home-cooked seafood meals that are one of the best things you'll eat in India. The hotel is quite good value too I've paid much more for much less. Very, very highly recommedned!

We stayed at Fort Inn on the last leg off our India journey. Apart from the affordable prices, amazing breakfasts, clean room and convenient location the thing that makes this B&B an amazing place to stay is the hospitality of the caretaker, Linda. Linda and her family which live in the establishment accomodate your every need- from backwater tours, to south Indian cooking lessons, she is full of knowledge and makes any guest feel like they are in a home away from home. Fort Inn is located in a central district area that allows travellers to rent a bicycle and travel to local restaurants, Jew town, bazaars and the chinese fishing nets. We really enjoyed our stay here and wish it could have been longer!
