Detailed Reviews
Hotel's Favourite
Eighth Bastion hotel is situated in the centre of Fort Cochin, within easy reach on foot or by tuk tuk of the city's many attractions. I stayed here as the final stop of a group tour of South India, and would describe it as a city or business hotel rather than a long-term holiday stay (Brunton Boatyard, nearby and owned by the same company, is much better). My room was very spacious and with a nice balcony looking over the city. The food was good although mainly a la carte, though there was a limited breakfast buffet. There was a small garden and pool, but not much of a social vibe. Very adequate for any business visitors or group trip stays.

Stayed for 1 night with 2 friends. When we arrived there was someone to take our bags and we were checked in straight away and given a bottle of water.
The room was really clean and comfortable. The bathroom was really spacious and had a ceiling shower and mosaic deep set bath tub. The courtyard area in the middle of the hotel was really clean with a pool. We asked for a couple of things like extra water and the staff were very accommodating. This place also serves alcohol!

I stayed at Eight Bastion just for a night. A simple yet elegant boutique hotel located in the heritage zone of Fort Cochin in what is predominantly the prime residential area of the Dutch East India Company. It is just a hop skip and jump away from few main attractions like the beach, David Hall and the Dutch Cemetery.
The Manager Mr. Johnny Peter gave us a tour of the small property and explained why the name came into being.
The room was very comfortable and had a very spacious bathroom with a bathtub. The pool was a blessing as it was really hot in the last week of February.
We had all our meals at Eighth Bastion restaurant called the East Indies which is known for its fusion food. The Food was above and beyond expectation. Chef Mr.Shinto is a star! Presentation was point on aswell!
My favorite dishes were: Green apple salad, Seafood stew soup, Banana leaf wrapped prawns (tiger prawn pollichathu), Spicy Squid, kochi shrimp roast, herb roast chicken.
I could easily go back to Fort Kochi just for the food at Eighth Bastion. It was that good, trust me! We café hopped in kochi over 4 days covering a dozen cafes and Eighth Bastion tops the list.
Karnataka government out of the blue announced that covid test negative report is mandatory to travel back into the state from Maharashtra or Kerala. The staff (Akhil) at Eighth Bastion quickly arranged for us to visit Ernakulam for the test and ensured our report was delivered early morning prior our flight. Things like these matter, that little step of going above and beyond leaves a lasting impression.
Every staff member I encountered, from the check- in to restaurant to the cleaning staff were delightful and eager to help! They went over and beyond to help make our stay enjoyable. I highly recommend Eighth Bastion if you are looking for a simple stay and excellent food.

We have enjoyed our two night stay at the Eighth Bastion hotel. Lovely hotel, pleasant staff and love the closeness to the ocean. A walk along the shoreline to Seagull restaurant was a treat. A cold towel and a refreshing glass of lime ginger soda are presented to you on arrival.

I stayed here two nights with six coworkers, and the hotel and staff exceeded my expectations.
We were greeted with a nice welcome drink and shown to our spacious rooms. The location is 5 minutes walking distance to the beaches and 10 minutes to the famous Chinese fishing nets.
We ate dinner at their restaurant, and the food was tasty and was visually presented very nicely! Their Creme Brule French Toast was one of the best desserts I've had!
The included breakfast was also excellent, with made to order eggs and a mix of local specialties.
The hotel also arranged pickup and drop-off at the airport for us and even sent us off with takeaway breakfast for our very early flight.

The staff at the hotel were very accommodating having given us a room for three nights at the last minute. The room was large with an outside balcony overlooking the pool with a nice peaceful feel. We were told the dinner in the restaurant was particularly good and it certainly didn’t disappoint. The location is good being close to the beach and near to restaurants and shops.

The staff at this hotel go above and beyond to ensure that guests have a pleasant stay, and while it was quiet during our time there, that gave us the opportunity to enjoy the lovely pool, and indulge in the delicious food cooked by Chef Shinto and his team. Beer and wine are available in the restaurant, and the food is really out of this world. Large rooms, a divinely comfortable bed and a big bathroom. Do note that streetside rooms can be a little noisy.

2nd time here and in the intervening 4 years the quality of service and attention has not diminished. The staff are all friendly and helpful. Food is delicious! The hotel is in a convenient location to wander along the seafront. There is a complementary tuktuk tour which we did and found it excellent, we especially enjoyed visiting the local laundry! We stayed two nights before heading off on the next part of our trip and I would say 2-3 nights would be perfectly ample for this area. I would also like to give a mention to another tuktuk driver who kindly helped me out finding someone who could do a henna tattoo for me..I ended up at his family home with his lovely daughter doing the tattoo - the whole experience was wonderful! So, hariskoc@gmail.com.. thank you!

Quiet and peaceful boutique hotel located inside old Fort Kochi. A well maintained clean property that is eco friendly and conscious about not wasting water and other resources, eg, shower gel provided but soap only by request - a simple and effective way of reducing waste. Our room 203 had a balcony overlooking the courtyard and swimming pool. All staff are exceptionally helpful, pleasant and polite. We were provided with decaffeinated coffee as requested. We had a wonderful evening meal in the onsite East Indies restaurant - perfectly cooked at a very reasonable price.

The management of this hotel is excellent. They made my stay feel secure, friendly and family like. They receive their guests with a cold towel and make them feel that they have arrived at a restful place. The food was excellent too - especially their soups. During the course of my stay they included a guide - Rajesh - who was a local and so knowledgeable that he raised the quality of my 2 day experience to another level . The hotel is located to many excellent museums and I needed more time. The trip was fabulous and I am planning to go back! Special thanks to Akhil, Simi and Rajesh for making me feel taken care of and guiding me every step of the way.
